The Fairchild TimesHello Fairchildren!

Time is running by us fasterthan any expected (as it alwaysdoes). Halloween has come

and gone and Thanksgivingbreak is knocking on our door

already. We have had a freaksnow-storm in October and

many of us have taken thespooky walk through Haunted

Overload its been a fun but busy time.

Next week Fairchild residents will be presenting to campus the InternationalFood Luncheon on November 17th. Thiswill be a good time for us to take some

time an take on preparation for this eventthat has come to be associated with ourcommunity over the years. If you have notalready volunteered helpconsider doing

so, stop by Hall Council Monday night to

find out ways you can assist :)

This week I am celebrating what they calla No Meeting Week - basically all of mymeetings (or most of them) outside of thehall are canceled. This means that I will be

running up and down throughout the week.

The next three weeks we will be having aseries of activities. These will constitute

the first Fairchild Cup competition. Checkout page 2 for details.

If you have not yet been able

to participate in hall events thissemester, this week and thenext may very well be yourchance, we will have lots of

activities going on all thetime :)

The international theme of

this building will soon becoming to life, and I am

hoping to hear your ideas on how we can

best model a community where differencesare accepted and respected and a wideningof personal horizons is encouraged.

If you are a US student and are wondering

what this internationalization means toyou, heres a quote that will give you ahint:

ter Buses will leave from B-Lot at 5:30 am on Saturday, December 3rd

Jonathan Gual, born April 16th 1992 (yes, it was a Thursday -how did you know?), was attracted to UNH because of its good busi-

ness school. He was attracted to business because he has a refinedtaste that gives rise to his love for money. Hi Dad is also an entrepre-

neur and leads a healthy, complete life. Jonathans dream is to own avineyard with a bunch of horses. He is big on the outdoors and loves

to mountain bike, run, swim, snowboard, ski... you get the picture. Hisaim this semester is to hit the biggest jump on skis and get all As. His

favorite memory from High School... wait for it... when he asked hisgirlfriend out and she said yes!

SPOTLIGHT

Ivan Razumeni has lived most of his life in Serbia.

While he was too young to understand the world eventsthat his life was surrounded by, they affected him none-

theless. Ivan often thinks how life must have been dif-ferent then. Yugoslavia was engulfed in war beginning

in 1989 and the following decade saw the country breakup into many others. Serbia, Ivans homeland, is one of

these countries. When he was young all Ivan understoodabout the bombings was that school would be out as a

consequence and he would be a happy kid. His family

lived in a safer region since they were closer to the Ro-manian border.Ivan was very independent as a child and still is, making

his own decisions throughout his life. His current venture in the US is the result of a coinci-dence. He eventually wants to go back to Serbia to pursue graduate students and possibly get a

doctorate in electrical engineering. He hopes to be an entrepreneur one day.Ivan keeps himself busy outside of academics as well. He pounces upon any opportunity for

involvement and actively seeks new experiences. He takes part in more than 10 sports includ-ing shooting, karate, basketball, and surfing!

When I asked Ivan about the cultural differences between the US and Serbia, he said the US isquite similar to the European Union countries in many ways. He likes the ever-smiling and

always-helpful people of the US but he is not a big fan of shallow hellos. He appreciates thathe has many opportunities to do new things here and tries to capitalize on as many as he can.

They told me Americans like their personal space after seeing them dance at parties Idont agree!, he tells me with a smile.

Five years ago Ivan was lying in his bed in Belgrade studying Physics (which he is very goodat). Five years from now he hoped to know lots of languages and get married. He takes me a

little further down the road though. In seven years..., he says, ...I want to have children!

invigorating stretches, this club is great for beginners and longtime yogis. Each class is a fresh start, so you dont have to

own, along with a bottle of water and a friend!

Its going to be lots of fun! Meetings are Tuesdays at 6
