Club leaders and FFA advisors: Please collect and turn in stall reservations for all livestock depart-ments by July 23. Please make sure that any spe-cial requests or needs are included in the reserva-tion. LIVESTOCK CONSIGNMENTS All 4-H and FFA members must consign their livestock by Thursday at 2:00 p.m.! All market animals must be accounted for on the consignment form. This means that you’ll need to tell us what animals are going home, what animals will be selling, what an-imals will be shipping, and what animals will be going to a locker plant. Be sure to ac-count for all market animals at the fair, even those that may not have made weight or shown!

Consignment Options: SHIP ANIMALS: Any animals that were not sold in the sale and are within the department weight limits are eligible to be shipped with oth-er fair animals for a pre-arranged buyback price. These prices are posted in the Extension office and have been pre-arranged through the sale committee. Transportation is arranged for these animals. All shipped animals will be charged a ship fee of $5/hd.

LOCKER ANIMALS: If you are planning to send your animal to a locker plant, it is your responsi-bility to set up an appointment with the locker and make arrangements for transportation. STATE 4-H CONFERENCE

From June 18-21, 4-H members from across the state gathered to bring their “Dreams to Reality” at the Colorado State 4-H Conference. Five mem-bers from Washington County attended the event held on Colorado State University’s campus. Members attending from Washington County were Tate Schrock, Montana Mason, Jared Mason, Sa-rah Cook, Peighton Kendrick and chaperones Ja-mie Jo Axtell and Jennifer Friend.

On Tuesday, members arrived to take part in sev-eral workshops across campus. Some options were geared toward leadership, while others needed participants to be willing to “look, listen, and touch” living insects. Once the workshops were completed, members attended dinner then the opening session. The opening session allowed candidates for State 4-H President and Vice Presi-dent to tell voting members why they should hold the 2019-2020 office. Soon after, Greg Peterson of the Peterson Farm Brother’s spoke on how he and his brothers made their music parody videos. He also shared why it is important for us to advo-cate and share what we do in agriculture.

When Wednesday rolled around, several 4-H’ers competed in contests such as horse and livestock judging. Peighton Kendrick of Otis competed in the livestock judging contest. Members who were not competing attended workshops throughout the day. Some of those workshops focused on tech-nology while others encouraged members to have an open mind to making dreams a reality. In the evening, members attended the awards dinner. 4-H members who competed in the various contests were awarded ribbons, plaques, and belt buckles for their achievements.

Thursday held another day of workshops. That evening, several members became senators and voted for state President and Vice President. Once elections were held and the results were tabulated, the past state officers shared words of wisdom with the newly elected 2019-2020 officers.

After a conference of turning “Dreams to Reality,” members headed home with ideas to become bet-ter leaders, new information on technology, and memories to last. Members attending were sup-ported by the Washington County 4-H Council.

YOUTH ROBOTICS CAMP

We hosted a Youth Robotics Camp in Akron June 10-15 with 16 participants. The Beginning group had a great time learning to build and pro-gram simple robots using Lego NXT and laptop computers. They learned to program the robot to use four different types of sensors, and to maneuver different challenge courses.

The Advanced group designed, built and mech-anized a product processing, packaging and delivery system using a wide variety of engi-neering, fabrication, electronics and robotics skills and components.

Thanks to Connor & McKenna Jesse, Tate & Cora Schrock, Bridger Lynch and Daisha Riofrio for helping with the camp!!

TALENT SHOW Do you sing, dance or have another cool talent??? Come join the county 4-H council for a 4-H and open talent show just prior to fair. The show will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd in conjunction with our annual fashion revue. The fashion revue will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the talent show.

Categories include: Jr, Intermediate and Sr vocal, dance or other solo

Group Vocal, Dance or Other performance Club/Group Lip Sync Challenge.

Entry forms are attached to the newsletter and are due back by July 18th to the Extension office.

Display Board Guidelines

Display boards are a great way to share information, but when viewers walk by, they spend only 60-90 seconds looking at each display board. Make yours stand out by highlighting the main points of your project in a fun, inter-esting way.

SIZE Display boards for the fair must measure 4 ft. wide x 3 ft. tall. They should be made of lightweight cardboard, but not poster board. Pre-cut boards are available at the Extension office. No part of your display may extend beyond these boundaries.

SPACE Your display should only discuss one main topic. This will help it look neat and un-

TEXT Make sure that all the text on your dis-play is easy to read. Use a large font for the title, and smaller fonts for the head-ings and body text. Text must be reada-ble from 3-5 feet away. Use large bold letters. Dark letters on a light background works best.

ATTACHMENTS Make sure pictures and objects are securely attached to the board. Use glue for pictures and paper, and consider wires, zip ties or staples to attach bulkier items. Do not attach items that are so heavy that your board can’t stand or fold.

SHAPE Design your exhibit so information fits on the display. Remember, you have 1 large sur-face, and 2 smaller side wings.
