It’s obvious that we steal clothes from the boys. We take their baggy jeans, their oversized tops, and, best of all, their blazers. Boyfriend blazers are longer than the typical women’s blazer and usually have a straight cut rather than one that highlights the waist. They are casual enough to wear with shorts yet chic enough to wear with jeans or shorts. Here are 3 different types of boyfriend blazers that will undoubtedly complete your look, no matter what it is.

Ah, the classic black boyfriend blazer. Loved for its versatility and elegance, this type of blazer adds a “glam” aspect to a dressier outfit than, say, a cardigan would. It

can even substitute a casual jacket if wearing with a pair of denim shorts. A true closet staple that every woman must own, the black boyfriend hangs loose, usually without any

closure, and its long sleeves can be cuffed for a more casual feel. Its neckline varies from tuxedo type to rounded lapels

to classic long lapels—the choice is yours!

The typical boyfriend blazer hangs loose, but alas, some are made with a single button to ensure it doesn’t flap around in the wind. Buttoning the jacket makes your overall ensemble look more polished, and it can even

help highlight your waist or curves, as it cinches in once buttoned. Pair this must-have with skinny pants or jeans and

you’re ready to hit the town! And if you’re looking to pair that spring and summer-friendly skirt, dress, or shorts with a more masculine piece, throw on a single button boyfriend

blazer and you’ve got a well-balanced outfit.

For the color lover who just can’t get enough of exotic, in-your-face fashion pieces, the colored boyfriend blazer is a

hybrid of current fashion trends mixed in with a boyfriend blazer. Ranging from neutral colors such as burgundy and

grey to bright colors such as blue, orange and pink, the boyfriend blazer is made in every color of the rainbow to

suit every fashionista personality. Best part? If you’re a print lover, there’s even something for you. Bold patterns such as plaid, dots, or even stripes add a unique element to an

overall ensemble, even if you’re just sporting a tee shirt and jeans (hey, we’ve all been there).

Winter is finally here and it’s time to go shopping for winter boots. We saw ankle boots, cut out boots and even leather thigh high boots stomping the autumn and winter catwalks at Chanel, Roland Mouret, and Lanvin. But with so many boot options on the market, it can be a daunting task finding ones that are worth the investment.

One of the biggest trends this winter is sleek, skinny boots, whether it be ankle booties, casual knee highs, or a pair of racy leather thigh highs. We’re also seeing a lot of new colours alongside the classic black and tan, such as deep oxblood red and dark French navy, so update your look in an instant with one (or all) of these Winter 2014 boots.

Page 8: Faearch

t h e a n k l e b o o t

Ankle boots have been around forever, but this season, they’ve been given a little update – they’re shorter than ever before and we’ve seen them in some fabulous colours with metallic and cut-out detailing. One of our favorites? Giuseppie Zanotti’s red velvet Chelsea boots that feature gold cap detailing. But if your budget doesn’t stretch to Zanotti, Zara has some fantastic alternatives. Choose flat ankle boots for comfort or booties with a little one-inch heel for extra style points.

t h e b i k e r b o o t

A foolproof way to look stylish, the biker boot has long been a favorite of fashionista’s everywhere. Easy to wear, super comfortable, and a simple way to add edge to any ensemble, the biker boot has remained much the same for the last few seasons – but this year, it’s had an update. Still leather, studded and buckled, Saint Laurent added charm detailing to their 2014 biker boots, which makes us wonder – why haven’t we added charms to boots before? Or stilettos... or wedges?

t h e m e t a l l i c b o o t

Futuristic metallics seem to come back each and every winter—and with good reason! Zara has a fantastic pair of gold leather ankle boots that feature a platform heel, but we’ve also seen boots with metallic straps, metallic toes, metallic zip detail and metal stud detailing – so you can go as shiny as you like. Invest in classic colours with metallic detailing, as you’ll be able to wear them next winter, too.

t h e h y b r i d b o o t

Shoe-boots (Are they a shoe? Are they a boot? Nope, a little bit of both) have been around for a few years now and we think they’re brilliant, as they’ll take you from work to Happy Hour effortlessly. We’ve seen unexpected peep-toe detailing, open backs, mesh leather and lace-ups and we love it all.

t h e c u t o u t b o o t

New this year, the cut out boot has been seen all over the catwalk, from Alexander Wang to Chanel, and can also be found all over the high street, in Topshop, New Look, and more. Look for cut out boots in a classic style, like the biker or ankle boot, so that they’re ultra-wearable. Opt for more classic colours too, especially if you’re investing in pieces now to wear next year.

t h e t h i g h h i g h b o o t

As seen gracing Pucci’s 2013/2014 catwalk and on Chanel, Lanvin, and countless other designers’ models, the thigh high boot is back with a bang this season. It can be a tricky look to pull off, as patent leather thigh highs can look a little too sexy if not styled correctly, so if you’re a little bit scared of taking the plunge (we don’t blame you), choose thigh highs in a soft suede or buttery leather rather than a patent leather. Or, you can opt for wedges or platform heels rather than spiky stilettos.

t h e c l a s s i c s t i l e t t o b o o t

A classic shape and a classic style, we love the classic stiletto boot for its versatility. Available in virtually every height you can think of, classic stilettos have been given a mini-makeover this year with splashes of deep navy blue and slate grey. Invest in classic stilettos in a new seasonal color to update your look, and choose boots with a hidden platform to keep them comfortable.

The little black dress (often dubbed as the LBD) has been around for decades. First introduced in the 1920’s by fashion goddess Coco Chanel, the LBD is still loved to this day for its versatility and ability to withstand

seasonal trends. Whether you dress it up for a night out on the town or dress it down in order to look effortlessly elegant, here’s how you can style

a LBD for any occasion.

Looking to strut your stuff on that long awaited girls night out? Wearing a LBD is your best bet. Consider pairing it with black, opaque printed

tights. Fun and playful prints like polka dots, fishnet designs, and damask patterns will add some subtle sex appeal to your outfit and will amp up

your outfit to look edgy and playful yet still classy. Slide on a pair of black peep toe pumps to create a bold monochromatic effect. Lastly, add a sleek,

black patent leather clutch and get ready to look fabulous as you have fun with your favorites.

If you want to wear your LBD to work, you can incorporate some office staples to look sleek and chic for the workweek. Simply slide on a pair

of leopard print pumps or flats, and opt for a colorful cardigan or fitted blazer that has a hemline that sits slightly lower than your hips, as this will add a pop of color to your neutral color palette. Select dark toned

accessories, like a black onyx cocktail ring or a gunmetal toned chain link bracelet to put the finishing touch on your look without stealing the show

away from your LBD.

If you have a ritzy soiree to attend, you can still wear your LBD! Short dresses look ultra-luxurious when worn the right way to black tie affairs.

First, add some serious bling with an oversized cocktail ring or a bold statement necklace. Not only will these pieces show off your impeccable style, but they’re versatile in that they work work well with a high or low

dress neckline. Slide a mink or fur pashmina over your shoulders to add some soft texture and an old Hollywood glamour effect to your evening

attire. Of course, you can never go wrong wearing a pair of sheer stockings and a pair of black platform pumps.

When you invest in a LBD, you can rest assure that it’ll be a closet staple for years to come. Consider some of these wearing and pairing suggestions

to look fabulous in your must-have dress for any and every occasion.

What’s the easiest way to spice up any outfit? Simple. Add a pop of color! From subtle pastel tones to bold and brilliant hues, this season’s runways have been bursting with color. But if experimenting with different colors leaves you blue in the face, we have a few tips to ease you into the color spectrum. Ready, set, get coloring!

a c c e s s o r i z e , a c c e s s o r i z e , a c c e s s o r i z e !

A major trend this season has been neon highlighter hues – the more fluorescent, the better! To incorporate this summery staple into your look, play around with bold-colored accessories. Think stacks of bright blue bangles or a chic pink scarf to complement your slinky LBD. Then there’s the trusty handbag. Don’t underestimate the power of an eye-catching statement purse; in fact, you can incorporate the season’s most sensational colors into your ensemble with a handbag in a solid, standout shade.

s h o e - w o w !

Not ready to commit to the full-on color craze? Start with smaller outfit pieces. Swap out your black stilettos for something a little brighter. How about some floral platforms or sexy red pumps? Paired with basic skinny jeans and a simple white tee, all the focus turns to your fun, eye-catching footwear, making you look like the fashionista rockstar that you are. Adding an unexpected burst of color down below adds a flirty, playful twist to any outfit, whether it’s casual or formal.

c o l o r b l o c k i n g

For the more adventurous ones out there (we know you exist!), the color blocking trend was created just for you. Think of your favourite summer shades and morph them into one spectacular ensemble. To show off a sexy summer tan, combine a mix of pastels – a pale yellow blouse offset by gentle orange sherbet pants create a lovely sorbet infusion. If you’re feeling extra confident, let your colors show! How about a royal blue pencil skirt paired with a bright fuchsia blazer on top? When it comes to color, anything goes!

Get your groove on in a retro outfit

This holiday season we are witnessing the return of the 40’s and 90’s fashions. Even if the 90’s aren’t that retro, they bring back voluminous dresses and jackets, dresses worn over pants, loose fittings, knitted hats and backpacks. However, designers didn’t stop there. In fact, they went a step further back in time, reaching the influences of the 40’s, with rounded hips and narrow waists, putting less emphasis on the shoulders. Fashion houses like Prada, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci, Christian Dior, Carolina Herrera, Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs have proven that for this holiday season, retro is in.

By: Noemi Szoke

Find your inner elegance with baroque influences

The opulence and elegance along with intense colors and exclusive fabrics (such as velvet, satin, brocade and silk), will make you feel like a queen for the holidays. The Renaissance influences are strongly represented by tapestries and embroideries with golden threads, and fine lace and lush prints. Alberta Ferretti and Chanel are just two of the brands that brought opulence among the season trends and you can easily incorporate them into your very fashionable holiday wardrobe.

When it comes to fashion rules for the holidays, romantic styles come to mind, the kind of pieces that find purity in precious materials like lace or velvet. On the other hand, the holiday spirit can also be found in the expressions of the Renaissance era, in pieces that are injected with golden and floral details. Or how about the return of the 40’s and 90’s, characterized by geometric shapes and retro looks, or even in the masculine styles that still manage to keep the delicate features of women? This year’s holiday fashion puts women in the spotlight. Check out our 5 fashion rules for the holiday season.

Page 16: Faearch

Don’t be afraid of your masculinity

Wearing men’s clothing has always been a fashionable thing, especially when they are combined with feminine pieces. This holiday season the feminine/masculine trend brings sleeveless blazers, oversized blouses and high-waisted pants worn with boots and black caps to the spotlight. For inspiration take a peek at the fall/winter collections of Giorgio Armani, Comme des Garcons, Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood.

Follow your dark side with a little grunge

Grunge combines punk, rock and heavy metal influences. This year, designers seem to head towards the non-conformist period of the 80’s. Key elements of this style are black hues, studded leather, latex, mesh stockings, and plaid shirts. Emilio Pucci, Rodarte and Saint Laurent are just a few designers that brought this rebel style to their collections. Can you say edgy?

Cozy up in fur and feathers

This season, fur is reinterpreted in a variety of shapes and textures, from black and white graphic combinations, as seen at Michael Kors, Altuzarra and Valentino, to exotic fluorescent colors and disco, as seen at Fendi, Versace, Gucci and Kenzo.

Feathers are also heavily used for this season’s holiday outfits, both on skirts and dresses as well on jackets. Some noteworthy designers showed their appreciation for feathers by using them in their runway-ready collections. Check them out at Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Louis Vuitton, Erdem and Proenza Schouler.

Prints instantly make any outfit more interesting. While it may not be wise to wear leopard print from head to toe, you can include playful accents with a few key accessories. Plaid peplum tops, leopard print belts, zebra ballet flats, hounds tooth totes, and even polka dotted blazers or scarves can instantly liven up your look without going overboard.

Maxi dresses make great investment pieces because they can be worn year round. While these floor skimming frocks completely cover you up, they can be easily styled to help you look trendy yet professional. Add a fitted cardigan or blazer to apply ample coverage across your chest, arms, and décolletage area. You can add an infinity scarf during the cooler seasons or pair it with an eye-catching pair of strappy, flat sandals during summer months. Many maxi dresses are composed in an empire waist silhouette so you get some subtle cinching around your waist and bust, but won’t be overly exposing your body.

Leggings are not pants! While they look adorable underneath long tunics and lounge tops, they are not appropriate to wear to work. You can shop for items that mimic the look of leggings but are actually pants. They provide more structure and coverage; have pockets, and a slim, tapered leg. These black fitted pants can be worn with flats, heels, wedges, or tucked into leather riding boots.

If you are constantly buying black, white, and grey items to wear to work, consider incorporating a little color into your usual, neutral palette. Jewel toned tops, skirts, pants, and blazers are great to wear to work. They complement nearly everyone’s skin tone, are highly appropriate for the work place, add a lot of interest to basic items, and pair beautifully with gold or silver accessories. When shopping for these pieces, look for items in colors such as eggplant, topaz, lapis, amethyst, garnet, and sapphire.

Accessories make or break an outfit. If you want to give your stilettos and kitten heels a rest, consider adding a pair of leather ankle booties into your work wardrobe. They can be worn under trousers, skirts, or dresses and look trendy when tucked into skinny jeans on casual Fridays. Colorful purses with interesting embellishments like tassels, studs, or bold hardware also gives work wear an instant pick me up. One great silky scarf can also transform any suit set, sweater, or dress. Scarves leave you with endless tying options. Best part? You only need one!

Soft, tangible textures popped up all over the runway during Fashion Week, so it’s only natural for accessories to mimic the same seasonal styles. Velvet shoes are a must this winter, especially around the holidays. Whether you pick up a pair of heels or flats, consider shopping for velvet pumps that feature jewel tones or get a set that boasts an ultra-feminine embellishment like rhinestones, cut-out designs, double ankle straps, or fur.

Move over, thigh highs! It’s time to make way for over the knee boots. This winter you can feel warm and look luxurious while wearing these sleek and chic boots on top of your favorite skinny jeans, leather leggings, or even underneath your mini dresses. Available in a range of colors, textures, materials, and lengths, this winter trend gives you a ton of options to choose from.

Fur is huge this winter, especially when embellished on bags. While this may make a number of fashion enthusiasts’ step out of their comfort zone, you can rest assure that carrying a furry bag will show that you are on top of current trends and are fearless when it comes to flaunting them. Whether you go all out and purchase a full fur bag or you decide to dip your toe in the pond and pick up a clutch that has a small, furry strip, fur bags should be number one on your holiday wish list.

Grey is the new black, and it’s easy to see why! This stormy, neutral tone can be worn with virtually any color and is much more interesting and warm than basic black. Your favorite designers have been sending their models down the runway wearing grey, ankle-slimming booties with a number of their looks. Shop for a pair that laces up, has a wedge heel, or a short chunky heel to help you look more than fashion-forward as you combat winter weather.

Embark on a journey back to medieval ages by wearing big and bold golden necklaces. This season, you will see lots of etching and ornate designs that have a romantic, robust flare. This jewelry directly reflects the baroque inspired outfits that top designers created for their runway shows. In addition to larger than life golden necklaces, look for intricately designed, opulent earrings to make a striking statement when dressing for formal winter affairs.

Every stylish outfit needs the right accessories to pull it all together. If you want to ensure you are on the up and up when it comes to winter’s top trends, be sure to pick up the five accessories above and incorporate them into your weekday and weekend wardrobe.

All hail the undisputed champion of fall and winter fabrics. With the cold weather months comes the exciting opportunity to break out the beloved leather that elicits an automatic fierce attitude. A trend and a classic at once, leather pieces are always reliable for an instant dose of cool. Whether it’s a leather motorcycle jacket, leather skinnies or an of-the-minute leather crop top, these pieces pair beautifully with a variety of patterns and textures, and can instantly breathe new life into basic ensembles. An outfit as simplistic as a T-shirt and jeans is made exponentially more stylish with the addition of a leather motorcycle jacket and ankle boots. Yes, crop tops are usually reserved for the sweltering heat, but not to worry, they can absolutely be made appropriate for the fall and winter months, too. Consider pairing a leather crop top with a high-waisted pencil skirt in a dark floral, plaid, or classic houndstooth pattern. This will expose just a tiny hint of skin, making the look sophisticated enough for any occasion. Top this trendy pairing off with a structured neutral blazer or sequined bolero and a pair of black pointy-toed pumps and you are ready to rock any holiday soiree dressed to impress.

While you’ve undoubtedly been taught to ditch the white after Labor Day, opt to instead ditch this outdated rule. White wool coats, luxe white trousers and elegant white cashmere sweaters are among the chicest garments for the winter white season. Stock up on at least one of these pieces and couple it with other basic whites, like a white pencil skirt or white silk camisole, to create a stunning ensemble worthy of any holiday gathering. A swipe of ruby red lipstick and a retro cat eye serve as the cherry on top of a major monochrome moment.

The fall and winter seasons are the perfect opportunity to add a little spice to your usual holiday style repertoire. Whether it’s a spiked gold belt, an edgy jeweled ear cuff or that extraordinary rhinestone necklace you’ve been lusting after, don’t be afraid to step up your style game in lieu of St. Nick’s arrival. If you’ve got a preference for classic pieces rather than trendy items that may soon be forgotten, opt for timeless accessories like hats. Insanely popular at the moment, a wool wide-brimmed hat will eternally elicit a cool-girl vibe. Pair it with anything from a flirty floral dress and tights to a pair of skinny jeans, ankle boots and a chunky knit sweater.

While we love a hot trend as much as the next gal, we can’t deny that a few basic wardrobe staples may just be enough to carry you through the entire fall and winter months. A classic crisp white button-down will pair fabulously with anything from distressed denim jeans to printed jeans, as will that form-fitting little black dress that will look beyond gorgeous when combined with a sleek sock bun and a sparkling pair of chandelier earrings. Even comfortable leggings have their place among classic fall and winter wardrobe staples. Pair them with an oversized off-the-shoulder sweater, riding boots, a funky leopard print scarf and Voila! You’ve got an incredibly chic look to rock when temperatures drop.

The simplest way to jazz up an outfit lacking flair is to incorporate a spectacular statement piece for on-lookers to feast their eyes on. This can come in the form of a luxurious sequined jacket, a fur coat or stole, or a dazzling pair of metallic jacquard trousers. Though each of these is, individually, a fantastic complement to basics, when worn together they sadly lose their luster. Let your statement pieces shine to the max by pairing them with tame items that don’t need the attention as much. Though it is indeed tempting to rock all of your favorite pieces at once, you may be doing them a disservice by forcing them to compete. Stick to one outstanding piece at a time to showcase your enviable style and restraint.

Have you ever eagerly gotten dressed in your most fashionable cold-weather getup only to discover that it’s 70 degrees outside once the early afternoon hits? Not only have you wasted a perfectly good outfit, but you’ll probably be in for a bit of discomfort when you’re rocking knee-high leather boots and leg sweat creeps in. Though cool weather is sure to be expected during fall and winter, there’s no harm in checking your daily forecast to ensure you avoid getting caught off guard. Not to say it’s time to break out the denim cut-offs and flip-flops, but on some days a printed dress and flat ankle boots may totally suffice for looking polished and weather-appropriate.

Though the fall and winter seasons are the ideal time to sport a plethora of fabulous neutrals, don’t take for granted the eye-catchingly bright pieces you may already have in your closet. Mixing and matching basics and brights is key to creating wow-worthy outfits. That pair of cobalt denim jeans you rocked all throughout summer? It’s still a prime candidate for a fall and winter makeover. Pair these with black ankle boots, a black tunic and top off with a leather jacket or black faux fur stole and you’ve just successfully transformed a spring and summer staple into one completely befitting of the cooler months.

With the arrival of fall and the impending start of winter, it’s that time to stash away your warm weather cottons and linens and make way for the all important knits, tweeds and leathers. For those that choose to see the silver lining, the transition into the A/W season marks a time for the sartorial conscious to play “dress up” and show off his impeccable style.

While no formal rulebook exists, the mere change in climates brings on a whole new set of guidelines to follow. As the temps continue to plummet and the further we move along the calendar year, we are automatically presented with a sudden spike in dressing techniques and options. For example, we have multi-piece layering, complementing statement garments, incorporating prints and working in key colors (just to name a few).

Join us as we take a closer look at some of the key pieces for this season.

With the recent resurgence of heritage and vintage styling within menswear landscapes, both high street and couture fashion circles have witnessed the re-birth of the roll neck knit jumper. Achieving a cult-like following in the controversial 70’s, large pockets of rebellious youths used the roll neck as a means to combat the conformist shirt and tie regimes.

Ideal for its versatility, this piece can be layered with a leather biker and a pair of fitted denims for an edgy yet casual ensemble. For those that prefer the more sophisticated look, pair it with a check printed structured blazer and a pair of slim chinos.

If formal wear is more your speed, look no further than the time-tested overcoat. Boasting a slim silhouette with minimalist detailing, the overcoat is the quintessential outerwear option when it comes down to covering your well-tailored suit. Opting for neutral tones such as charcoal, beige or olive ensures a seamless wardrobe transition into the cooler months.

In search of a stylish ensemble for your morning commute? Reach for a charcoal overcoat to blanket a soft grey, checked suit and finish with a pair of black leather oxfords for a solid footwear option.

Striking the perfect balance between casual and formal dressing can be a daunting task. While we’re not claiming to have the perfect answer, we do present you with a viable option: the unstructured blazer.

First and foremost, a blazer (whether structured or not) can never be stripped fully of its formal connotations - and rightfully so. However, an unstructured model (with its softer, relaxed fit) brings on a casual dimension to an otherwise rigid semblance.

For a dapper weekend look, outfit a navy blazer with a slim denim button-down, fitted chino trousers and finish with a pair of tan hued chukka boots. An instant classic!

Never an easy task, seasonal dressing for the colder months is a challenging one that often invokes thought and effort. Needless to say, with the myriad of options available to you, what you wear and how you wear it is purely subjective and should always be met with confidence.
