About half of these products were announced at last year’s f8, Facebook’s annual Developers Conference
Facebook also announced a number of partnerships with global media and entertainment companies, as well as news organizations
f8
A few of Facebook’s notable new partnerships include:
- Spotify- Skype- Netflix- USA Today- SoundCloud- iHeartRadio
Partnerships
Facebook also announced an extended Open Graph, which allows users to publish actions on Facebook (you listened to music, you watched a movie)
This allows developers to create more meaningful and integrated applications on top of Facebook’s platform
Open Graph
…..
So, why is all of this relevant?
With Mark Zuckerberg’s vision and Facebook’s focus as a company, they are making the world more open and connected
Facebook’s global partners and the million+ developers building applications on top of Facebook’s platform are going along for the ride
Facebook is not just a social network – it is positioning itself as the foundation of the entire social web
“I think Facebook's greatest long-term contribution will be Open Graph. Sure, Facebook.com is interesting, but the bigger deal is the use of "like" button everywhere, and the use of Facebook credentials as a universal log-in. They are becoming the passport and ID system for the Web, and that's a big deal.”
