    Engine Specifications:

    Honda 600 CBR (proposed)

    It comes with an inbuilt gear box and

    clutch.

    The engine gearbox consists of 6

    gears (no reverse gear is there by

    default).

    Drive Train:

    Two types

    1)Chain Drive

    2)Shaft Drive

    Reason- The car is a rear wheel drive

    and the engine is also positioned at

    the back of the chasis.

    Our transmission

    In our car the output shaft from thegearbox is parallel to the axle of thewheels.

    So we will be doing paralleltransmission which will use thesprocket chaindrive mechanism.

    The final drive(gear-ratio of sprockets

    attached to output shaft of gearboxand ring-gear of differential) ratio willbe around 4.

    CHAIN 520 OR 428??

    520 chain is mainly used by teams but 428 can also be

    used

    Disadvantages of 428 chain:

    1) Is not as durable as 520.

    2) If we use 520 then well get a higher range of gear

    ratio because of the sprocket that we can use in case of

    520.

    Close-ratio and Wide-ratio

    A close-ratio transmissionis a transmissioninwhich there is little difference between the gear

    ratiosof the gears.

    a transmission with large differences between

    gears is termed "wide-ratio. These terms are relative.

    A close-ratio is used for racing vehicles ( our case).

    Differential of Our interest

    We will be using Torsen differential.

    Reason: Over normal open diff- in the

    situation when the traction on both the

    wheels is different the slipping willresult in the wheel with low traction in

    case of open differential while the

    torsen is specially made to sort outthis perticular situation.

    2) over LSD: in case of sharp or longturns (when the difference in velocity

    of wheels is large or remains for a

    long time resp.) differential will getlocked resulting in stopping the car.

    CLUTCH:

    Use: 1) To bring a car to a stand-still

    2) to help in changing gears

    Composition of clutch: Flywheel,

    Pressure Plates, Clutch Plates, ClutchCover,Diaphragm Springs

    Transmission so far

    We will implementing parallel transmissionfrom engine driveshaft to the wheels axel.

    The differential to be used is that of

    TORSEN.(considering the traction effect).

    The two axels emerging out of thedifferential will be connected to wheels.

    Between differential axel and

    Wheel The gearsinside differential operateswhen

    there is proper balance of forces in them fromeither side.

    One part of the differential axel is connectedto the wheels(indirectly) while the other isinserted in the gear chamber of differential.

    If this axel is moved in the fashion otherthan its regular rotation, it will lead toimbalance in forces of gears in gear

    chamber of diff which will stop the motionof gears..

    So the constraint is that this axel performsonly the specified rotational motion.

    Between differential axel and

    Wheel There are the 2 possibilities in which the

    movement of axle can cause problem-

    1)transversal(longitudenal movement)

    2)rotational movement along some otheraxis.

    2ndproblem will be solved with the help of U

    joints.

    Made for the purpose of transformingrotational motionof one axle(in our

    case the differential one) to the

    second one(connected to wheel)without concerning their mutual

    angular inclination.

    1stproblem

    In total there will be 3 axel fromdifferential to wheel.

    The centre one will be connected to

    the axel going to the wheel via U-joint.This will solve our problem concerning

    rotation about other axis.

    Now remains the problem oflongitudinal displacement of diff. axle.

    The problem is solved using plunge joint.

    Two rods connected using plunge joint have

    the rotational constraint irrespective of the
