Extracting Value from the Industrial Internet of Things Cyril Perducat EVP Digital Service & IoT Schneider Electric How are collaborative robots and human-machine interaction transforming the manufacturing process? I think human-machine interactions are fundamentally transforming the manufacturing process. On the one hand, machines are becoming more and more sophisticated, they are connected and they produce more and more data. On the other, workers need to have the tools and the means to use the information for providing the best man-machine interface and engagement in the best way, to make the data useful and impactful for the workers in the field. What are the benefits of the connected workforce for manufacturing firms? The biggest impact of the connected workforce is the tremendous amount of data that they have to use and process in the field. Providing the right man-machine interface is a way to extract the information for the right decisions to be made to support the connected workforce so they can have the best impact on the manufacturing process. One example is situational awareness, it is the ability to sort all of the different information available to the workers, the specific information and alarms for example that have an impact on the safety of the process. What will the world of manufacturing look like in 2025? I believe that by 2025 manufacturing processes will be more efficient. They will be more efficient because we will be able to leverage all of the information available on the connected processes. But they will also be more sustainable because by combining all of this information together, we will be able to establish the best balance the between efficiency and sustainability. How are collaborative robots and

human-machine interaction

transforming the manufacturing

process?

I think human-machine interactions

are fundamentally transforming the

manufacturing process. On the one

hand, machines are becoming more

and more sophisticated, they are

connected and they produce more

and more data. On the other,

workers need to have the tools and

the means to use the information for

providing the best man-machine

interface and engagement in the

best way, to make the data useful

and impactful for the workers in the

field.

What are the benefits of the

connected workforce for

manufacturing firms?

The biggest impact of the connected

workforce is the tremendous amount

of data that they have to use and

process in the field. Providing the

right man-machine interface is a

way to extract the information for the

right decisions to be made to

support the connected workforce so

they can have the best impact on

the manufacturing process. One

example is situational awareness, it

is the ability to sort all of the different

information available to the workers,

the specific information and alarms

for example that have an impact on

the safety of the process.

What will the world of

manufacturing look like in 2025?

I believe that by 2025 manufacturing

processes will be more efficient.

They will be more efficient because

we will be able to leverage all of the

information available on the

connected processes. But they will

also be more sustainable because

by combining all of this information

together, we will be able to establish

the best balance the between

efficiency and sustainability.
