Prime Cattle to 201ppk & £1266 Barren Cows to 147ppk & £1102
Monday saw Prime Cattle sell to a top of 201ppk for a cracking young, but well covered Limousin heifer (21m) from RJ Macbean & Son of Plymstock whilst older (29m) Blonde steers from Keith & Hilary Harvey of Bovey Tracey rose to 196ppk and £1266,
Native bred sorts off the same farm saw 183ppk (£1000) for their Beef Shorthorn steer (21m) and 179ppk (£1003) for an Angus heifer (19m). A sweet 560kg Simmental female from Andrew Palk, Paignton fetched 188ppk or £1061 with the best of a decent
run of Friesian steers (27m) from Robert & Elizabeth Buxton of Talaton realising £1038. Top over thirty month Prime attained 176ppk (£1260) for a well turned out South Devon steer (31m) from Steve Harris of Littlehempston. A very mixed bag of Barren
Cows saw plenty of better types in the 120 to 140ppk plus range with a top of 147ppk given for a fleshy Blue barrener from Andrew Johns of Newton Abbot whilst highest total price was a mighty £1102 (129ppk) for a striking 858kg Friesian from Robert
& Elizabeth Buxton. Charolais cows from J Norman & Son, Thorverton hit 142ppk with a couple of quality Simmental’s to 136 and 137ppk for Andrew Palk. South Devon sorts (off Chagford) got 131ppk for Michael & Peter Northway with Angus cows
reaching 130ppk for Bernie Serpell of Plympton. Beef bred ‘granny cows’ all selling between 70 and 90ppk unless they looked like they may put a bit more weight on (then add another 15ppk.) A neat, well rounded South Devon cull bull was knocked down at
119ppk and realised £1061 for Graham Bond up from East Allington.
Vendors are kindly reminded to inform us of their entries for Monday’s Prime Cattle and Barren Cow
