2.1 Introduction to radio network data

Parameters

1. What is the definition of these indicators :HOOBRQR : outgoing handover preparation success rateHOOBEFR : outgoing handover efficiency rate

2. Extract the 2 indicators from NPOFor 1 cell : select one cell – ensure that all trainees are using the same cellHourly, for the past 2 hours – after drag and drop, in the execution context window, choose "hourly".Daily, for yesterday.

3. Find counters related to these indicatorsHourly, for the past 2 hours – counters can be found by drag and drop an indicator from the "QoSIndicators" tab to the "QoS Counters" tab.

Note 1: open the counters' tab before the drag and drop, otherwise it doesn't work (the tree needs to be created)

Note 2 : a "quick drop" selects the counters but doesn't select the counter's tree. You need to click on "counters" to see the result. A long drop (> 2s) will select the counters AND display the tree. This duration can be defined in the user preferences.

2.2 Working with Views Browser

Views, slide 32

Let's follow a typical scenario of report analysis1. Clear the views browser – right click on the tab of a view "Clear All"2. Extract (1) a list of indicators for all cells in one BSC 3. Extract (2) the same report with

QoS Requirements = LOW – QoS Requirements are in "options" of the execution context window.

4. Extract (3) a list of indicators for few cells, daily, for yesterday. few cells = 5 to 105. Extract (4) a report containing all parameters related to cell reselection, for all cells of a BSC,

for yesterday6. Brainstorming : Define a list of KPI7. Extract (5) those KPIs per BSC, for all BSCs

Periodicity = WEEKLY, DAY = one day last week, QoS Requirements = HIGH8. Extract (6) a report containing BCCH, BSIC, FREQUENCIES and NUMBER OF TRX per cell, for

yesterday – these information are in DESIGN.

Don't hesitate to introduce the "favorites" (= RNO's Best Of) in order to keep the indicators selection in memory.

Report 2Highlight and open the legend : select and propagate all cells that exceed the orange threshold for the RTCH drop rate

How many cells ? Answer : Order the cells : highest call_drop_BSS_remote_TC_rate on top – double click on the column header

Which cell is the worst one ? Answer :Select and propagate this cell. Find this cell's TRXs : - drag and drop the propagated cell to the TRX mode.

Which TRXs of this cell have the same problem ? Answer : - you must execute a new view for these TRX. You should not do a drill down, because it will display ALL TRX of ALL cells of report 2. BEWARE : spatial drill down can work only if indicators are available at TRX level.

Perform a spatial roll up (x2) on report 2 – spatial roll up x 2 means that you click once, wait, and then click one more time. First roll up : BSC level, second roll up : Network.

Is the problem impacting the BSC ? Answer : if the BSC has a bad average value (first spatial roll up), then we can assume the problem is actually on a bigger scale.

2.3 Basic QoS Monitoring

Execute a Report

For each need, find the appropriate report1. QoS manager needs an overview of the GSM network – Introduce the "network" object in cell

zone. Choose "Cell zone / Network" + Mono Evolution "Alc Mono Ana QoS"2. O&M team needs to verify call drop causes on one cell Mono Object – Mono Evolution "Alc Mono

Call" per hour3. GPRS team needs the transmission resources usage of each GPU's (and Ater's) of one BSC – Mono

Evolution report in BSC or in GPU mode, regarding transmission (?? the names ??)4. Optimization team wants the list of the 10 cells with the worst SDCCH drop rate – Warning Top

Worst ("Call")5. Design team needs to check the traffic split between a cell and its neighbours – introduce the

"Select all target cells" : right click on a cell and add its neighbours. Traffic split not available in the Adjacency mode, need to use type 110.

6. Design team needs to check the call efficiency rate among the different TRX of a cell. Multi Object Comparison report, in TRX Mode, after propagation.

7. An optimizer changed an adjacency parameter and needs to check the evolution of HO flows between a cell and its neighbours. In adjacency mode, select adjacencies of one cell, then right click and select "add reverse adjacencies".

Object Zones, slide 55

Create the following zones : - right click in object zone "blank area". Select "new object zone".1. Cells from BSC 1 – object type = CELL, filter object type = CELL, one criteria : in design,

BSC=xxxx

2. Depending on your network, create one zone per "CELL TYPE" AND per "FREQUENCY RANGE" (single, umbrella, mini, micro or indoor) – object type = CELL, filter object type = CELL, 2 criteria (w/ intersection). Ensure the criteria contains a valid condition and the value is correct. For instance GSM900 is not the same as 900 or gsm900 or gsm_900, etc. Also, one criteria only can be used, by using "AND" between the two criteria.

3. Cells with at least one TRX with TCH assign efficiency % < 90% and TCH allocated > 200, and that belongs to BSC 1 - object type CELL, filter object type = TRX, Children "At least one child", use one criteria only with "AND" between the two indicators conditions.

4. TRX with TRX PREF MARK = 0 and belongs to cells which have more than 3 TRX - object type TRX, 1st filter object type = TRX, use one criteria "TRX PREF MARK = 1". 2nd filter, filter object type = CELL, use one criteria "Design/ Cell Capacity/ TRX NUMBER > 3".

5. TRX with less than 1 erlang per day- object type TRX, filter object type = TRX, use one criteria.

6. GPUs from BSC 1 and BSC 2 – Object type = GPU, filter object type = GPU, and in "topology", on the right panel, find the BSC NAME. Use a criteria such as "BSC=1 OR BSC=2"

Close the Zone Editor, and find your Zones in NPO – they'll be located in OBJECT ZONE, in CELL ZONE (if object type = CELL) and in TRX ZONE (if object type = TRX). To display them, perform a "refresh tree" (Edit / Refresh / Active Mode or Active Tree…. The families are used only in OBJECT ZONE, and choose the upper tab "Family"."Compute" each zone – right click on a zone… compute.

How many NE's for each zone ?

Provide the following data :Weekly CDR, CSSR, RTCH DROP BSS RATE for the NETWORK, for the past 7 weeks (TabularSpreadsheet) – use network object in cell zone.

What is the weekly CDR for last week ?

Hourly "Alc_Mono_QoS" for BSC 1, starting from yesterday 00:00 until now (Mono Object EvoReport)

Do you see a difference when doing it from "BSS mode" or from "Cell zone" ? – normally, there is a difference : the BSS mode continues until now, but the cell zone stops at midnight : no data are available for today. It looks like it is the opposite from RNO. To be verified. "Bug" (?) is reported to Lucien Champion.

Display RTCH duration avg, RTCH assign success, TRX RTCH Drop Rate (Radio, HO and BSS) for all TRX with less than 1 erlang / day (Tabular Spreadsheet) – drag and drop the TRX zone into the TRX mode.

Using Filters, can you find TRXs with high CDR, high amount of success and short duration average ?

Create a new tuning sessionFor all cells with cong %(*) > 2%, enable FDR and fast traffic handover.- Execute a view with RTCH NA Congestion % for all cells for yesterday (or last week, or BH, etc.) and use a filter select propagate selected elements.Starting from exercise p.71, tune all cells that do not follow the new CRO reference.- Use the highlight feature to select all red / yellow cells on CRO.Set L_RXLEV_CPT_HO(Umbrella 900, Mini 900) = -74dBmL_RXLEV_CPT_HO(Umbrella 900, Mini 1800) = -72dBmHO_MARGIN(1800,900) = 7dBHO_MARGIN(900,1800) = 3dB- Those are adjacencies parameters. Use the upper tabs in the network element browser to

select all the correct BAND > BAND adjacencies.Find the cell with the highest amount of HO caused by interferences, and modify its frequencies.- Execute a view with many cells and the indicator about HO INTERFERENCE RATE (HO CAUSES)Find the cell with the highest time advance average, and add some neighbourhood relationships- This indicator is located in the family RADIO MEASUREMENT, and is called "TIMING ADVANCE AVERAGE"Write an advice : "This is a test tuning session"

Tuning, slide 105, 2/2

Apply a tuning sessionExport the previous session to the OMC-RIf the OMC-R is available, perform all the steps until activation of the PRC

Notice how long it took to perform a massive tuning…

It is faster than doing manually, especially when modifying the HO MARGIN / L RXLEV CPT HO !!

To export to the OMC-R, you need a connection btw OMC-R and NPO, and you need the Tuning license activated in NPO.

In OMC-R : IconBox, choose "NPO Tuning Browser", import the last NPO session and save it in a PRC directory. Then create a new PRC and "populate" it with this PRC directory. Then activate.

Cartography, slide 149

This exercise must be validated on NPO. It is corrected by memory only…Using the cartography,

Select all cells with FREQ RANGE = GSM900AND CELL CLASS = URBANAND CELL TYPE = MICRO- this can be done thanks to the side panel, by using the filters.

And tune their parameter "A_PBGT_HO" to 12 – use a tuning session

Select one cell and use the Adjacency wizard to check relations within 400m, and remove relations with "No Usage" (import in the Tuning Session)

Create a thematic layer for CELL2G, based on – 2 criterias will be usedRTCH_LOAD, 4 intervals : 0-50%, 50-75%, 75-100%, > 100% (green to red) – COLOUR !!Nb of TRXs, 3 intervals : 1-2, 3-4, >4 (scale : 0.4, 0.8, 1.2) – SIZE !!

Apply this thematic layer for different hours during the day

One can see the movement of traffic in the network… Morning trip to work, lunch time, back home, going to party, going to football stadium, etc. Useful to predict HO's and LU's.

Dimensioning team needs to verify the current load of BSCs. Generate a report, including all BSCs, with :

SDCCH Erlang at BHTCH Erlang FR at BHTCH Erlang HR at BHNumber of TRX per BSCNumber of cell per BSCMax congestion on Ater PS interface, for each GPU

a BSC "tabular view" report with all these information is not possible. You must create many reports and then assemble them in excel. The last one is a GPU report…Max Congestion on Ater PS interface is a GPRS GPU indicator in :

GPRS AterGCH

GPRS_GPU_Ater_cong_percent ( QAGALCTP )GPRS_GPU_Ater_cong_max_percent ( QAGALCTP_MA )GPRS_GPU_Ater_cong_time ( QAGALCTT )

RMS templates, slide 115

Group per group, you will perform the update of the path balance template, accordingly to the previous slides.

The last group will import it in the OMC-R.

Activation is possible, if wanted.

Activation : do the same as a tuning session. Once the PRC is executed, the BSC contains the correct RMS template. Now a second PRC is needed in order to activate this template on the cells (this is a cell parameter, very simple, do it with "edit n cells")

3.5 Topology Customization

Abis object creation

It is highly interesting to create Abis links between BSC-BTS and BTS-BTS :Possibility to detect problems on chained BTS due to faulty AbisPossibility to keep track of network architecture in NPO

1. Create a new relationship type : ABIS2. Create a new link from one BSC to one BTS, and from this BTS to another BTS (if possible, use a real

example).3. Load the changes in NPO

TABULATION are used just for reading comfort !! don't use [tab] in your files !!Check : is BTS an existing object ? in BTS mode, open properties of one BTS : is there an object ID ?
