exercise science OPPORTUNITIES ‘Working in the weight room definitely can give you an up-close perspective on what exercise science is. It puts you in a hands-on situation where you’ve got to jump in and just go for it. Within the Beaman, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in activities that involve the Exercise Science major. You just can’t be afraid to put yourself out there are see where God takes you!’ ‘One of the most beneficial aspects about getting involved with Jumpstart training/Beaman training and even just being involved as a fitness assistant in the weight room is the exposure to hands on experience that just isn’t available in the traditional academic setting. It’s such a great opportunity to be able to apply the concepts that are being taught in the classroom to the “real world” environment to not only help you to better understand the classroom material but also get you a step ahead of those not involving themselves by learning through DOING, which is so important because in the field of exercise science there are some skills that just can’t be taught. If nothing else, it’s a great way to be sure you really love working in the field of health and wellness before finishing the degree.’ - DANIELLE WISSE - MOLLY THATCHER ‘Belmont University’s Department of Fitness and Recreation strives to create and engaging and educational environment where students can be fit, live a healthy lifestyle, form lasting relationships, and grow in their personal and spiritual lives.’ - MATT DODSON

The Department of Fitness and Recreation is an essential component of the Division of Student Affairs. We are committed to cultivating the whole person by providing an array of fitness and recreational opportunities in an educational, social, ad supportive environment. These core functions support the strategic priorities of the Division of Student Affairs in its effort to promote student health and welfare, document and improve contributions to student learning, and build community. In addition to providing programming for the campus community, an integral component of Fitness and Recreation’s identity is that it is a teaching facility that supports the university’s academic learning goals by providing co-curricular experiences that allow students to use Fitness and Recreation facilities as a learning laboratory for course activities.

We believe that fitness is a matter of stewardship and that individuals honor God as they are diligent and consistent in caring for the bodies they possess. We believe that we are not our own and that we were created to give ourselves to something bigger than ourselves. We are servant leaders whose lives portray our commitment to those we serve. We use our lives to engage and transform the world by leading programs that guide and challenge students to develop a healthy active lifestyle.
