Summary of Opening & Welcome
Dr Bismark Mzubanzi Tyobeka, Chief Executive Officer of the NNR welcomed
attendees to the 1st NNR Regulatory Information Conference. He highlighted
the importance of the conference in promoting nuclear safety regulation and
creating a platform whereby key nuclear role-players converged to exchange
information on safety and security related topics in both nuclear fuel cycle and
radiation facilities. In his keynote address Dr Tyobeka emphasised the NNR’s
launch of the Centre of Excellence for Nuclear Safety and Security (CNNS) and
noted the current on-going process of the two Nuclear Installation Site License
Applications received by the NNR.
Mr Gino Moonsamy, the NNR’s Communications and Stakeholder Relations
Manager and the Conference President, expressed the importance of
meaningful stakeholder engagement towards strengthening the regulation of
nuclear safety and security. He further outlined the need for improving
stakeholder outreach and connectivity through initiatives such as the nuclear
regulatory information conference and encouraged attendees to take
advantage of this unique opportunity. He called on attendees to interact with
local and international counterparts; to share valuable insights and
perspectives on safety and security issues facing both the domestic and
