On the one hand, the growing acceptance within most organ-isations that a degree of rationalisation of the role must occur is incredibly exciting, especially as it is something we have been advocating for close to 10 years. So forget external perceptions, your role as the most connected person in the office means you have to be more adept than anyone else at managing social interactions and networks. During his 30 year career in the public service, Kelvin has held the positions of Director-General of the former Department of Community Safety, Commissioner Queensland Corrective Services and Commissioner of Corrections in Victoria. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, has completed the Executive Fellows program with Australia and New Zealand School of Government and participated in the Leading Australia’s Future in Asia Program.

Helen Besly oversees the company-wide management of Rowland’s strategic offering, including the growth and management of the full breadth of their communication services. PROFESSOR PETER COALDRAKE AO, vice-chancellor and President, Queensland university of technology

Professor Peter Coaldrake AO is Vice-Chancellor and President of QUT, a position he has held since 2003. He chaired Universities Australia, the peak body of Australia’s universities between 2009 and 2011, and currently chairs the OECD’s higher education program. A dual Fulbright scholar, he is the author of a number of books, most recently (with Lawrence Stedman) “Raising the Stakes- Gambling with the Future of Universities” (UQP, 2013).

The conference was no doubt the most productive conference I have attended and in over 30 years as a PA I’ve been to a few! The number of attendees, around 100, meant it felt cosy yet the variety of career experiences and work backgrounds gave ample opportunity to connect with other EAs from a wide variety of companies. I truly enjoyed the depth of content from the panels as well as from the presenters.

In 1995 she was awarded the Lex McKeown Trophy by the National Insurance Brokers Association for contributions to the Australian Insurance industry. Maria was Member of the Marine Board of Queensland from 2000 to 2009. She was Chairman of the Qld Marine Academy from 2003 to 2004. Over the last 10 years Maria has spoken at various Maritime Conferences around the country on maritime insurance matters.

BILL POTTS, criminal lawyer/director, Potts lawyers and councillor Queensland law society

Bill has been practicing exclusively in the area of criminal law throughout Queensland and Australia for over 30 years and founded Potts Lawyers, the largest private criminal law firm in the state. In 2009 he helped form the Australian Defence lawyers Alliance which is an association of the most prominent and well-respected criminal law firms in every state and territory.

DR LESLEY VAN SCHOUBROECK, Queensland mental health commissioner

Dr Lesley van Schoubroeck is Queensland’s first Mental Health Commissioner, appointed to drive reform and refresh strategy for Queensland’s mental health, drug and alcohol systems. Lesley is adept at bridging diverse stakeholder views, lived experience and professional expertise to solve complex social policy issues and shape reform. She has extensive public sector experience in mental health and a PhD from Griffith University.
