Only 4 sleeps to go!! Enjoy another CPPS celebration; 60 years of education with our Collaroy Carnival – the greatest carnival on the Plateau!

It’s this Saturday, 8th November -10.00am- 4.00pm. So much to do, so much to enjoy. Bring your family, your friends, your neighbours, bring one and all.

Many people have been working so hard over the last few months, weeks and days to make this the best Collaroy Carnival yet. I hope you can join us for an action, fun filled day.

Included in this newsletter is a map of the stalls and activities and a program of the entertainment. We have also included a “Dunk the Teachers” timetable to assist you in your planning of when you may like to go and dunk a teacher.

Have a wonderful day! See you there!

Dear Families,

We would like to congratulate and wish the students travelling into the city this Thursday a wonderful time as they walk the red carpet to view their films as finalists in the Arts North Film Festival. We are extremely proud of your efforts.

Congratulations also to Mrs Kilbane and 4 of her students who have designed and painted a beautiful canvas to enter in the “World’s Biggest Classroom.” Please refer to Mrs Kilbane’s article further in this newsletter.

With all the excitement of the carnival some families may have forgotten to order their Unit Lunch for next Wednesday, 12th November. There is still time if you order through Flexi Schools to order your delicious sausage, ice block and bag of natural lollies.

Unfortunately there is a tremendous amount of lost property piling up in the CAPA hall. We encourage you to ask your child/ren to go and have a look if they have lost something as we will be clearing out all the lost property this Friday.

Next week, Tuesday, 11th November CPPS will be holding a Remembrance Service to honour those who have fought and are continuing to fight for our freedom. The service will be held at 11.30am in the school hall and all are warmly invited to join us.

We welcome our 2015 Kindergarten students this week and next week as they participate in their 2015 Kindergarten Orientation.

Last Week Year 5 and their teachers went on a fantastic camp to Bathurst to enrich their HSIE study of Gold. It was a brilliant camp, building on our knowledge, having fun with the various activities organised, making new friends, not sleeping and eating camp food. I would like to thank Mrs Sirotic, Mr Elkojje, Mrs Johansen and Mrs Twentyman for supporting this extra-curricular activity, giving up family time to make this camp possible.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Our school community is amazing with so many activities occurring at this time you have raised $14,347.85 through our Walkathon. Congratulations to Kindergarten who are the winners of a sausage sizzle, ice block and extended play. Coming a close second was Year 2 who have won themselves an ice block. The BBQ is Monday week, so Kindergarten students will not need to bring lunch for Monday 17th Nov. Please remember to pack their recess.

Thank you to those families who have informed the school that your child/ren will not be returning to CPPS in 2015. This really assists us in our planning for 2015.If you will not be returning in 2015 and have not informed admin please do so as soon as possible.

In addition, there are no guarantees but if you would like to make a request for your child/ren for 2015 please email this to me, [email protected]

Miss Williams in her Deputy Principal report informs us there are only 3 families who have completed our survey. It really is important that we hear your thoughts as we move into the next school planning cycle. I am hopeful that more families will complete the survey after this weekend’s Collaroy Carnival.

Congratulations to those students who have achieved a Gold or Platinum Award. Please refer to the table included to see names of individual students. We are extremely proud of your efforts.

See you at the carnival.

This is how our Year 2 students describe our school, now it’s your turn!

As you would be aware, we are currently completing our school plan for 2015-2017 and would love your insights into the direction of CPPS. We are asking students, parents and staff to share their ideas in order to get the best possible feedback to plan for the future. If you have not already done so, please go to the website below to share your thoughts. It is a short, anonymous, user-friendly survey. So far, only three parents have completed this survey. Please make sure you contribute your thoughts before the survey closes at the end of the week!

Live Life Well: Building healthy habits

Building healthy habits Children are learning habits that will often last them a lifetime. Consider the following: Breakfast is important. Children who eat breakfast have better concentration. Eating

breakfast can reduce snacking on high-energy foods in the afternoon in both adults and children.

Be realistic about the size of the serve you offer children. Forcing children to finish what is on their plate when they are not hungry may lead to overeating and/or strong food dislikes.

Avoid giving children processed snack foods high in sugar. Encourage brushing teeth in the morning and before bed to develop good dental habits.

Quick and easy breakfast ideas: Make sure your child starts every school day with a nutritious breakfast that includes foods from at least two of the five food groups. For example wholegrain cereal with reduced-fat

milk fruit smoothie boiled eggs and toast slices of fruit with yoghurt raisin toast with sliced banana muesli, chopped fruit and yoghurt

wholemeal crumpets with sliced banana

grilled cheese and tomato on toast tinned baked beans and toast porridge, sultanas with reduced-fat

milk tinned fruit and yoghurt rice or noodles with lean meat or

vegetables

Please note that the A game for each sport commences at 1:00pm and the B game at approx. 1:40pm. Training is on for all teams this week.

Talani Tombs - Netball National Championships On Saturday 30th August our NSW State team travelled to the Gold Coast to play at the Netball Nationals. The Tournament was held over 6 days, each team playing each other twice, meaning we played 3 games / day. All States participated in the Tournament except Tasmania and there was also an Indigenous Invitational team which competed. Unfortunately we lost against Victoria and South Australia within the first couple of days which meant the final result came down to the last game on the last day which was NSW verses Victoria. We were down by 4 going into the fourth quarter, everyone fought hard to close the lead but when the final whistle blew the game ended as a draw which meant we were 1 point away from coming joint champions. It was the best week ever. I met some amazing girls, got to play for my State and on the excursion day we went to Sea World as a team. The experience is something that I will never forget and I was so happy and proud to be a part of the touring group. I would like to say a big thank you to the staff and all the CPPS students, in particular Ms Bouveng for supporting me and driving the fundraising which was a big help. Hopefully I have inspired other students to achieve their goals.

Bottle Top Art work’ stalled!

The Art Club desperately need the help of the school community! Our ‘Bottle Top Whale’ is half way through and we have run out of green bottle tops. It would be greatly appreciated if you could collect green bottle top lids and donate them to Mrs Kilbane or drop them into the office. With your help, our beautiful whale can take pride of place in the 3-6 playground.

Many thanks in anticipation!

Mrs Kilbane
