Ongoing Work
I have a number of ongoing projects ranging from academic research projects to private commissions and personal work. Shown here are a few examples which I will try and keep up to date.
Caisteal Grugaig Broch- I am currently researching Scottish Iron Age brochs through Edinburgh University and AOC Archeology. AOC have commissioned a scale model which explores the possible habitation and construction of this unconventional broch looking at possible ways of roofing and creating levels within the masonry structure. A broch is a round tower-like structure. They are typically 6-10m tall and have a thick double skin masonry wall of around 4m. The base shown here is a lat-tice structure made up of 48 MDF ribs which create a ground plane. The geometry was taken from a 3D laser scan of the existing broch ruins and was extracted to this form using Rhino and laser cutting.
Sgian Dubh- A sgian dubh is a decorative knife which is traditionally worn in the sock by a Scotsman when wearing a kilt. I design and build sgian dubh using a variety of exotic materials. The example shown here is my most recent commission for a wedding in April.
