Dr. Todd GreenSunday presentation: Interfaith Etiquette in an Age of IslamophobiaMonday presentation: Rethinking Our Approach to Islamophobia

Todd Green is Associate Professor of Religion at Luther College. A nationally recognized expert on Islamophobia, Green served as a Franklin Fellow at the U.S. State Department in 2016-17, where he analyzed and assessed the impact of anti-Muslim prejudice in Europe on countering violent extremism initiatives, refugee and migrant policies, and human rights. He has given lectures on Islamophobia to other federal agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, and has authored resources and done consulting work for church-related organizations and educational institutions on Christian-Muslim dialogue.

Rev. Dr. Anna MercedesTuesday presentation: Being Church, Wider and Deeper

As we explore the ways our spirituality leans widely and deeply, in these last sessions we will probe the question of ways to imagine and embody church more widely and deeply. Anna will bring relections from her ministry with young adults and favorite treasures from christology and feminist theology to bear on the question of how to be church in reimagined ways. She will ask us to apply these ideas to our own contexts and imagine the challenges and opportunities of greater width and depth as church.

Anna Mercedes teaches theology at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. Her academic specialty is in the overlap between theology, gender studies, and peace studies. She is an ordained pastor for our synod in specialized ministry, serving the Protestant students at CSB/SJU. On campus she is also involved in leading a large grant on “Transformative Inclusion.” She is the author of Power For: Feminism and Christ’s Self-Giving and a contributing author to Transformative Lutheran Theologies: Feminist, Womanist, and Mujerista Perspectives. She is a graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and Drew Theological School. She is a member of Peace, Cold Spring, and a mother to three daughters.
