TYPES OF CLYLINDERS

By default, three individual keys are supplied with every master keyed and grand master keyed cylinder. Master and grand master keys need to be ordered separately as per requirement. Additional copies for individual, master and grand master keys can be ordered too.

DIFFERENT KEYING FUNCTIONS

The keying function for the grand master key system shown can be understood with the example of a building structure with four levels of keying.

As the highest level in the keying plan shown above is a grand master key level, all the locks will have grand master keyed cylinders.

The building has four floors with four flats each. At the bottom level, you can see 16 individual keys for every flat.

At the second level, there is a sub master key assigned to each floor, which can open doors of every flat on that floor, i.e. 1 sub-master key for each floor.

At the third level, the floors are clubbed into two groups (1 & 2 and 3 & 4) and there are two master keys assigned to them. Master key 1 can open doors of flats on the first and second floors and master key 2 can open doors of flats on the third and fourth floors.

At the highest level, there is a single grand master key with access to all the flats in the building.

GMK: GRAND MASTER KEYAll locks can be opened by their own individual key, respective sub-master key (if that level exists in the keying hierarchy plan), respective master key and grand master key

ORDERING INFORMATION

Lets take an example for understanding master key systems and their ordering.

There is a residential building having 11 floors with 1 flat and 1 fire door on each floor. Each flat has 2 bedrooms and a main door. The customer requires 1 master key for each flat (3 doors) i.e. a total of 11 master keys for 11 flats and one grand master key for all the locks in the entire building (3 rooms in each flat and fire doors for 11 floors). Size and type of each cylinder need to be as follows
