WEDDING FAYRE

In 1910 the women chainmakers of Cradley Heath focussed the world’s attention on the plight of Britain’s low-paid women workers involved in the ‘home-working sweated industries’, hammering out chain-links in sheds in the backyards of their homes with their babies and children for 5 shillings (25p) for a 50-hour week.

Led by the charismatic union organiser and campaigner, Mary Reid Macarthur, hundreds of women laid down their tools to strike for a living wage.

Wortley Hall is delighted to welcome Professor Joann Fletcher the well-known local Egyptologist and honorary visiting professor in the department of archaeology at the University of York to present our afternoon lecture. Joann has published a number of books and academic articles and made numerous television and radio appearances including the 4 part series Immortal Egypt.

The lecture will be introduced by Linda McAvan MEP and will be followed by a Q&A session.

Wortley Rotary Club hosts its annual event to raise funds for local charities. Join us for some frightening fun this Halloween with a spooky trail around the grounds to find some ghostly characters! Your little terrors then get to pick their own pumpkin from the garden and bring it back to carve; there will be a prize for the best pumpkin and the best fancy dress. Once in the warmth of the hall carving away, there will be hot chocolate for the children and adults will be able to enjoy a hot mulled wine.

1. A deposit of £5.00 per person is required to confirm

your booking - excluding the plays and spooky

garden walk which must be paid in full at time of

booking.

2. Full payment is required by 2 weeks prior to the

event. For any bookings after this time full payment

will be required at the time of booking.

3. Bookings not paid in full by 2 weeks before the

event maybe cancelled without notice.

4. All deposits are non-refundable and non-

transferable.

5. Once full payment is received no refunds or

exchanges will be made. If you are attending

a public event and the numbers fall short of the

minmum requirements for the event the hotel reserve

the right to move your party to another room or date.

6. Please make any cheques payable to ‘Wortley Hall

Ltd’ for deposits. Final payments will only be accepted

by cash or credit/debit card.

7. Seating at all public events will be party/shared

seating.

8. Group organisers are required to ensure that all pre-

orders and special dietary requirements are provided

at least 14 days prior to the event taking place either by

post or email to info@wortleyhall.org.uk.

9. The group booker is required to ensure that all pre

orders and/or special deitary requirements are provided

at least 14 days before arrival along with full payment for

the whole party in a single transaction.
