Event Management Introduction I'm using JEvents and as you will see, it has a problem. There is a workaround to this problem that I discovered on my own. The forums were silent on this. Looking at an Event Before I get into the problem, here's how JEvents looks. Note that you can't register; you can't collect payment. What you can do is put an event on a calendar and give information about that event. Here's how you can look at events. Go to the Home Page and click on Events in the Main Menu. I set the default as year. Notice that IEEE events have a dark blue indicator and non-IEEE events have a gray indicator. Click on Eclipse DemoCamps 2008 (the second event form the bottom). The links are live. And this was the problem. If you enter the event in the standard way, links in the event description fail. When you click on the event name, you see the event description as shown below. 05/15/08 1 of 11 Ted Kubaska

Event Management

IntroductionI'm using JEvents and as you will see, it has a problem. There is a workaround to this problem that I discovered on my own. The forums were silent on this.

Looking at an EventBefore I get into the problem, here's how JEvents looks.Note that you can't register; you can't collect payment.

Click on New (upper right). It's the green plus sign.

Select a Category. This is important. You lose the event if it is not assigned a category. If there is not an appropriate category, you must create one first. Use the dropdown box to select a category. It's an exercise to the reader to figure out how to add a category.I click on the HTML button in the editor, got an HTML window and pasted some HTML. You don't need to paste HTML. You can type formatted text. I'm using HTML now for more control, and I want the control because of the problem that will result.

Here is the problem. Click on any of the links. You get an error message.

Note that the web site's URL was prepended to the link. So what do you do? Sigh. You must go back to the admin page. To do that, click on Site -> Control Panel in the upper left corner. Then, click on User Manager. Here is what you see.

Click on Administrator (or whatever login you want to use to make the event).

Here's something that's very important, and I mention it every time it comes up. When administering this Joomla site do NOT use the Back button on the browser. Always click the Save or Cancel buttons! Now click on Components->Events->Manage Events. Then click on Eclipse DemoCamps 2008. Note that there is no longer a WYSIWYG editor. Look at the HTML code that specifies the links. Remove the quotation marks around the URL (I know, this doesn't obey HTML syntax; just do it). Look at the <a> tag in the figure below to see what I mean.<a href=http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php> McMenamins Kennedy School</a>

Click on the Save button. It's on the upper right (not shown in the figure above, but to the right of Preview). You can now go back to the admin page and add the WYSIWYG editor back. But if you go back to the event description with WYSIWYG turned on and save, you will break the links.
