Accommodations Make Reservations Early - Hotels & Motels That Will Accept Dogs

Hotel policies may change toward dogs, please verify current policies when making reservations. These hotels, to the best of our knowledge, will welcome you and your dog. It’s still a good idea to double-check when making your reservations as sometimes hotel policies change between the publication of the premium list and the show dates. Please remember that you MAY NOT wash your dogs in hotel bath-rooms as the dog hair wreaks havoc on the plumbing system. Remember to be a responsible dog owner and clean up after your dogs on hotel grounds and Show Grounds. We recommend plastic sheeting under crates in hotel rooms and please do not leave your dog unattended in the room. Hotel managers do know to contact the Event Committee if rooms or grounds are left in an unacceptable condition. If complaints are received, the offending exhibitor may be subject to an Event Committee Hearing and sanctions from the AKC.

AKC National Owner-Handled Series Buckeye English Setter Club

FRIDAY, MAY 22, 2020 & SATURDAY, MAY 23, 2020 English Setter Association of America, Inc.

SUNDAY, MAY 24, 2020

The purpose of the AKC National Owner-Handled Series (NOHS) is to recognize and showcase the quality dogs being exhibited by owner/handlers and to provide a venue for the

owner/handlers to compete against their peers. The determination of the awards in the AKC National Owner-Handled Series is based solely on the quality of the entry.

The owner/handler’s handling ability is not of consideration.

The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited by their owners that are not professional handlers. Exhibitors must declare their dog is Owner-Handled eligible at the time of entry on the entry form. Dogs entered in the Amateur-Owner-Handler class will automatically be marked as eligible to compete in the NOHS. Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the judge’s book, steward’s book & the catalog. Dogs must be handled throughout the breed level competition for the regular show by an eligible owners. Professional handlers*, household members and current assistants** to professional handers may not exhibit the dog in any NOHS competition during the entire show. Owner–Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are eligible to compete in the Best of Breed competition including Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, and winners of the non-regular classes.

• If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is Owner-Handled competition eligible, it will automatically be

Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety and be eligible to compete in both the regular as well as the Owner-Handled Group.

• If the Best of Breed/Variety is not eligible for Owner-Handled competition and the Best of Opposite

Sex to the Best of Breed/Variety is eligible exhibits of the other sex to determine Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety.

• If neither the Best of Breed nor the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety are Owner-Handled competition

eligible and Select Dog & Select Bitch are both eligible, the judge is to choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the Selects and eligible Winners Dog or Winners Bitch.

• If one of the Selects is eligible, excuse all Champions and non-regular class winners of the same sex

and then choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the remaining dogs of the opposite sex including the eligible Winners.

• If Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to The Best of status Breed, Select Dog & Select Bitch are not eligible,

the judge may choose any eligible dog remaining in the ring including Winners Dog or Winners Bitch as Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety.

• If the Best of Winners is eligible, the other Winner is ineligible since it was defeated.

• No class dog other that the Winners Dog & Winners Bitch are eligible to return to the ring.

The breed will not be represented in the Owner-Handled Group if there is no eligible dog competing in the Best of Breed or in Best of Winners competition. *Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional Handlers’ organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years. **A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or assisting a professional handler at the show or any time during the cluster/weekend. Current assistants that are eligible to compete in Junior Showmanship (meet age & amateur requirements) may participate in NOHS.

Once the eligibility time frame for that year has passed all participants return to the Open Class to complete for the following year. No entry may be changed or cancelled unless notice of the change or cancellation is received in writing by the Superintendent or Show Secretary named in the premium list to receive entries, prior to the closing date and hour for entries, except that a correction may be made from one age division to another, as well as, move from Master to Open or Open to Novice if a win has been disallowed or the Junior miscalculated number of placements, provided this transfer is made by the Superintendent or Show Secretary prior to the judging of the class at the show. NOTICE: Junior Handlers must include their AKC JUNIOR HANDLER NUMBER on each entry.

You may obtain your junior identification number by calling the AKC, Judges Education Department (919) 233-9767.

NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES As the judge’s decision in these classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog, no one of the dogs making up the entry judged first in the class will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won the class. Ch. 11 Sec. 8 of the “Rules Applying to Dog Shows” provides that “a castrated male be entered as a Stud Dog in the Stud Dog Class and a spayed bitch may be entered as a Brood Bitch in the Brood Bitch Class”. STUD DOG CLASS: For Stud dogs and a minimum of two and a maximum of six of their Get. Stud Dog must be entered in the Stud Dog Class and must be shown in the ring with their Get. The owner of the Stud Dog not necessarily be the owner of the

Get. While the merits of the Stud Dog are not to be considered in the placement of the entry, the Stud Dog must be examined to determine if it has a condition that would require its disqualification or excusal under the Dog Show Rules, AKC policy, or the standard of the breed. Get must be entered in a regular class, Best of Breed competition, or some other Non-Regular Class. BROOD BITCH CLASS: For Brood Bitches and a minimum of two and a maximum of six of their Produce. Brood Bitch must be entered in the Brood Bitch Class and must be shown in the ring with their Produce. The owner of the Brood Bitch need not necessarily be owner of the Produce. While the merits of the Brood Bitch are not to be considered in the placement of the entry, the Brood Bitch must be examined to determine if it has a condition that would require its disqualification or excusal under the Dog Show Rules, AKC policy, or the standard of the breed. Produce must be entered in a regular class, Best of Breed Competition, or some other Non-Regular class.

Lagotti Romagnoli, American Water Spaniels, Boykin Spaniels, Clumber Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels, Field Spaniels, Sussex Spaniels*, Welsh Springer Spaniels, Basset Hounds*, Cirnechi dell’Etna, Grand Basset Griffon Vendeens, Whippets, Standard Schnauzers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Irish Terriers, Kerry Blue Terriers, Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Bulldogs*, Chinese Shar-Pei*, Chow Chows*, Finish Spitz, Keeshonden, Entlebucher Mountain Dogs, Finnish Lapphunds, Icelandic Sheepdogs, Norwegian Buhunds, Polish Lowland Sheepdogs, Spanish Water Dogs, Mudi (misc.) & Norrbottenspets (misc.). *By Board approved policy Sussex Spaniels, Basset Hounds, Bulldogs, Chinese Shar-Pei & Chow Chows must be judged on the ramp in all conformation competition associated with AKC conformation dog shows or at which AKC conformation titles may be earned.

A judge requesting the use of a ramp must give reasonable notice to the Show Secretary/Event Secretary prior

to judging. AKC approval is not required. This policy extends to Junior Showmanship, the 4–6 Month Begin-ner Puppy Competition, the AKC National Owner Handled Series (NOHS), and all other special attractions that offer Group and BIS competitions. The list of Table and Ramp breeds can be found on the AKC Website under Conformation Judges – Announcements. Emergencies In emergency situations, with the approval of the Show Chair, breeds customarily examined on the ground may be examined on a ramp, not on a table.
