Ft. Recovery State Museum

Fort Recovery State Museum is located on the site of the two largest Indian battles in the United States. The 1791 Battle of the Wabash was a great victory by the Native Americans under Little Turtle and Blue Jacket and the largest defeat ever of the U.S. Army (St. Clair’s Defeat). The 1794 Fort Recovery victory, by the Legion of the United States under Anthony Wayne, broke the Indian confederation, along with Fallen Timbers led to the signing of the Treaty of Greenville.

Maria Stein Countryfest — June 24–26Full of free entertainment, Maria Stein Countryfest has something for everyone throughout the weekend. Friday’s schedule includes a craft show, volleyball tournament as well as the Western Ohio Garden Tractor Pullers Association. Empty Tank will take the stage on Friday night for all to enjoy. Saturday includes a punt, pass and kick competition, a cruise in and dodgeball tournament. There also will be tractor square dancing and go kart racing. Karma’s Pawn will close out the evening on the stage. Sunday’s events include a 5K run/walk, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and the 82nd annual pilgrimage. There also will be bingo, a diaper derby and Challenger League baseball. Nashville Crush will hit the stage Sunday afternoon. There also will be rides and a variety of food and beverages for the whole family.

Freedom Days Picnic — July 1–3The Freedom Days Picnic, held in Celina at Lake Shore Park, offers visitors a chance to enjoy food, fellowship and fun while celebrating the Fourth of July holiday. There are activities for children and adults alike at the event. The annual Freedom Days 5K Run is among one of the best in the region. Another Round and Nashville Crush will perform on July 1; Section Ate, Michelle Romary, Band 5 and Country Mile will perform on July 2; and Parrots of the Caribbean and Rare Earth will perform on July 3. The annual fireworks show will take place at 10 p.m. July 2 and a veterans salute will take place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 3.

St. Henry Community Picnic — July 1–3Taking place during the July 4 weekend, this annual festival features a variety of activities for all ages. The picnic features live musical acts from the region’s most popular bands throughout the weekend. The picnic typically features a car show, 5K run/walk as well as dodgeball and a talent show. Chicken dinners also will be available for purchase in addition to a variety of other food and beverage options. This year, Sawcreek has been confirmed to perform on Saturday. New Knoxville Fourth of July Celebration — July 2–3New Knoxville Community Park is the home of this annual Fourth of July celebration — an event put on by the New Knoxville Community Park Association. In addition to fun and music, the festival includes a classic car cruise-in, kids games and raff les. The annual Woody A. Piehl Wooden Bat Softball Tournament all weekend. The weekend also features an annual New Knoxville vs. New Bremen Little League game for fifth and sixth graders. Live music will be featured throughout the weekend and will lead up to one of the region’s best fireworks displays.

St. Joe Festival — July 3–4The St. Joe Festival is always one of the best festivals of the summer. Taking over the Auglaize County Fairgrounds, the St. Joe Festival offers fun for all ages. July 3 will feature the Indorphins playing in the beer garden. Rides and a variety of food and beverage offerings will be available starting at 3 p.m. The lineup for July 4 begins with the Firecracker 5K Run/Walk, which always draws a large crowd. In addition to a cake wheel, 50/50 and kids games, the festival offers a variety of food vendors. There also is a grand sizzler drawing,

Cridersville Fireman’s Jamboree — July 8–9The Cridersville Fireman’s Jamboree is one of the marque events in the village of Cridersville every year. In addition to offering good food and fun to locals, the event serves as a fundraiser for the department. The action kicks off Friday with a classic car show as well as a performance by Haywired. Saturday’s schedule features the seventh annual 5K run/walk, games on the midway as well as a parade. New this year, War Wrestling will stage a show in front of the village hall. Brother Believe Me will bring the night to a close in the entertainment tent. The grand prize drawing will be held at 11:15 p.m. Saturday.

Summer Moon Festival — July 13–17The Wapakoneta Summer Moon Festival is set to take over downtown Wapakoneta and the Armstrong Air and Space Museum July 13-17. The festival kicks off on Wednesday with the Miss Summer Moon Festival scholarship pageant and continues the rest of the week. Exploit will be performing on Thursday night. There is a car show on Friday as well as a performance by The Staples Trio. Food and drink vendors will offer a variety of tasty treats and beverages. Saturday features performances by Minor Blues, Hipnotix and Nashville Crush. In addition to events downtown, the Armstrong Air and Space Museum will have a slew of activities scheduled for the weekend.

Celina IC Festival — July 15–17This festival is put on by Immaculate Conception Parish in Celina and features three days of fun, food and fellowship. It includes a prize raff le totaling more than $55,000 worth of prizes to the winners. Kids games, rides, a cake wheel and

other raff les are offered throughout the weekend. A DJ will spin the latest tunes for all the enjoy on Friday. Saturday’s lineup features the T102 Country Star Playoffs. Exploit will bring things to a close Saturday night. Sunday’s slate features a cruise in the Heartaches will bring the festival to a close.

Celina Lake Festival — July 22–24The Celina Lake Festival brings visitors to Lake Shore Park, which is near the banks of Grand Lake St. Marys. The three-day event features a variety of activities for children and adults alike. Live music and entertainment will be offered throughout the weekend with the annual parade through town taking center stage on Saturday.

New Bremen Firemen’s Picnic — July 23This year marks the 95th year of the New Bremen Firemen’s Picnic. The event, which takes place at the Crown Pavilion, is the longest running picnic in Auglaize County. It serves as a major fundraiser for the department and helps offset the cost of equipment and vehicles. Live music, whiff le ball, corn hole, bingo and a wood carving auction highlight the schedule.

Uniopolis Fireman’s Picnic — July 29–30This annual event serves as one of the major fundraisers for the Uniopolis Fire Department. Friday night will feature a car show and cruise in as well as a quarter auction. Saturday is the main event and will offer free inf latable for the kids, Bingo and raff les. Chicken dinners will be available for purchase as well as other food and beverage options, including hamburgers and tenderloins.

St. Marys SummerFest — Aug. 11–14Taking place in Memorial Park in downtown St. Marys, SummerFest packs a lot of action into the weekend. The festival kicks off with the opening ceremony at 6:45 p.m. Thursday followed by Supper and Sounds in the Park. SummerFest is widely known for having some of the best live entertainment in the region. On Friday, Dayton-based Ithika takes the stage in the entertainment tent. Saturday will see 1988 hit the entertainment tent while Another Round will bring things to a close on Sunday. The annual parade will return Saturday afternoon and will take over Spring Street. The dog/pet show will return to SummerFest. One of the new attractions—an Obliteration station—will give people a chance to test their agility and ref lexes. A euchre tournament will replace the pool tournament this year. There also will be a community expo as well.

Mercer County Fair — Aug. 12-18The Mercer County Fair is set to take over the Mercer County Fairgrounds Aug. 12-18. In addition to 4-H livestock and other projects, the fair offers a unique blend of fun and entertainment for all ages. Kids rides and games dominate the landscape but there also is plenty of entertainment for adults. Gary Allan will top the live performance at the fair by taking the stage at 8 p.m. Aug. 12 for a show in the grandstands.

Bremenfest — Aug. 19-21Bremenfest takes place along the banks of the Miami and Erie Canal in downtown New Bremen. The festival opens at 6:30 p.m. Friday with the opening ceremony at the Crown Pavilion followed by the crowning of Little Miss Bremenfest and Miss Bremenfest. The Bremenfest 5K will take place Friday night. The Phillip Fox Band will take the stage at the Crown Pavilion Friday night. Saturday features a slew of activities including the annual chili cook-off and mud volleyball tournaments. Brother Believe Me will close things out in the Crown Pavilion on Saturday. On Sunday, the annual Bremenfest parade tops the agenda as well as a dodgeball tournament. Saw Creek closes out the evening at the Crown Pavilion.

Waynestock — Aug. 20Waynestock, a Christian music event put on by Wayne Street United Methodist Church, will return at 2 p.m. Aug. 20 at Skip Baughman Stadium. The event is free to the public. There will be a free will donation to benefit the Mercer

County House of Hope and the District 8 Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This year’s lineup includes Unspoken, About a Mile, Jordan Feliz, Lori Triplett, City of Bright, St. Paul’s Sunday School Band and Awaken Band.

Fryburg Homecoming — Sept. 4 This annual event is known around the region for its famous mock turtle soup. The soup is cooked in a large kettle over an open f lame. The festival also offers tasty chicken noodle soup for those who want another option. There will be kids rides and games, a kiddie tractor pull, bingo as well as hourly raff le prize drawings. The $1,000 cash prize will be drawn later in the night. The event serves as a fundraiser for St. John Catholic Church in Fryburg.

New Bremen Pumpkinfest — Sept. 23–24This festival, which takes place at the Crown Pavilion in New Bremen, is the perfect fall festival. What started out as a giant pumpkin contest has transformed into a festival that now spans two days and has something for everyone. Friday offers visitors a chance to take in live music and sample offerings from food and beverage vendors. Adam Ranly will perform followed by What She Said. On Saturday, the artisan showcase opens along activities for children and live music inside the pavilion throughout the day. 4th Day Echo, Kaitlyn Schmidt and Between 4DE and SC Breaks Saw Creek will hit the main stage Saturday night.

Wapak Wingfest — Sept. 24Wing chefs from across the region will converge on the Wapakoneta American Legion Post to do battle at the 15th annual Wapak Wingest. Vendors will be in attendance serving up their best offerings to hungry visitors. The event features music throughout the day as well as a poker run. College football will be shown throughout the day, leading up to the winners being crowned. There will be 50/50 drawings as well. For more information, visit Wingfest.org. 

Minster Oktoberfest — Sept. 30–Oct. 2Held in Centennial Park, Minster’s Oktoberfest highlights the area’s rich German heritage. The festival kicks off Friday with the opening of food and beverage tents as well as one of the largest arts and crafts displays in the region. Live music from the gazebo and Spass Platz highlight the evening’s festivities. Saturday starts with the Little Miss Oktoberfest and Miss Oktoberfest. The opening ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday. Live music will be offered throughout the day. Sunday will see the return of the annual Oktoberfest 10K and parade through the village.

Auglaize Acres Cruisin’ for Memories

Come to the 2nd annual Classic Car, Truck, Bike, Pedal Car and Custom Golf Cart Show, held Friday, August 19 from 5-8 p.m. (Judging from 6-7) at Auglaize Acres. Registration is 4:30-6 p.m. and the registration fee is only $10. There are awards for the top 10 vehicles and dash plaques to the first 50. They didn’t forget about the kids, either: Your youngster can bring their Power Wheel or Big Wheel to be displayed in their own Car Show, right along with the big toys! (prizes to all children participants) Plenty of family fun, chicken dinners by Sweet Carolines, a bake sale and more. Proceeds benefit Auglaize Acres’ Memory Care Unit. Car show will be held rain or shine, 13093 Infirmary Road, Wapakoneta. Call Matt Thuman at 419-738-3816 with questions.

Cridersville Jamboree

Held Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9 the 51st Annual Cridersville Volunteer Firemen’s Jamboree promises 2 days of family fun. Friday includes the Classic Car show and live Entertainment by Haywired. Back by popular demand is the Family Fun Area, on the east side of the station. Both days include food, rides and games, as well as hourly attendance prizes! Saturday there’s a 5k run/walk, Chicken BBQ , craft show, Parade, cornhole tournament, and “Brother Believe Me” plays! New this year - “War Wrestling” – 6 p.m. Topping off the event is the Grand Prize Drawing Saturday at 11:15!

Uniopolis Jamboree

Traditionally held the last Friday and Saturday of July, the Jamboree is now in its 73rd year. Put on by the Uniopolis Volunteer Firefighters and EMTs, this is a village event that reunites former Uniopolis residents and brings new friends to enjoy traditional festival food, games, and entertainment. Car show, pony ride, FREE kids inf latables. DJ, and much more! Get tickets to win cash and prizes!
