Technology Where used and why? Strengths Limitations My progress

Blogger Used to write all of my research

findings into the British Social

Realist genre and to upload any

research (e.g. – vox pop) or

planning documents (e.g. –

shooting script). Blogger was also

used to make production logs for

each week of pre-production.

It allowed me to organise all of my

work in chronological order as the

dates of each piece of work are

displayed on the left of each post

title and I could see which pieces

of work were outstanding as it

would say ‘draft’ on left left of the

post title if it had not been

published to my public blog.

This technology did not allow me to

copy and past images directly into

my posts, so I had to save all of the

images I wanted to use in my posts

and then upload them into it. This

was very time-consuming. In

addition to this, I was restricted as

to where I placed my images.

I found that using Blogger was

good as it made all of my work

much more organised. After

completing some of my research

and planning, using Blogger

became much easier and I also

found it effective in saving time

as it is one reliable place where

all of my work can be stored in

order without risk of losing it.

YouTube Used to help me conduct my

research as I had to find many

examples from British Social Realist

films to help me understand the

genre’s conventions. I also used this

to upload my vox pop which is a

piece of audience research I done.

I was able to gain a visual

understanding of the British Social

Realism conventions and themes,

so that I could incorporate some

of these in my film. Using this

technology to upload my vox pop

allowed me to get an embed code

so that I could include it in blog

posts.

Uploading videos took a lot of time

depending on their duration.

Uploading our vox pop was quite

time-consuming.

I never knew how to make or

manage a YouTube account and I

didn’t know how to upload

videos. But now I can manage my

account with easy and I find

uploading videos straight

forward.

Issuu Used to upload all of my work made

in Microsoft PowerPoint (e.g. –

meet my audience) or Microsoft

Excel (e.g. – shooting script), so that

from here I could get the embed

code for my work and include it in

my blog posts.

The presentation/format of work

uploaded on Issuu was very

appealing. Uploading all

documents was fairly quick.

Having to PDF all of my

PowerPoint's or spread sheets was

very long and the information

needed to upload can create

confusion.

At first when I started using this

it took me very long to upload

my work as it looked quite

complex but after a while I got

my head around it and learnt

how to upload documents with

ease.

Microsoft Powerpoint Used to produce various pieces of

work (e.g. – British Social Realism-

Visual Style), because this format

was most suitable.

Adding images was very easy and

they could be placed where you

want.

The page format of work created

was always landscape so I was

limited for space.

I learnt how to PDF my work as

all of my PowerPoint's had to be

so I could upload them on Issuu.

Microsoft Excel Used to make my shooting script, to

plan the production of my film,

because a table created clarity.

The boxes in the table were

already there so it was easy,

simple and quick to use.

If too much information was

written in a box, the box would not

adjust to suit the size. This was

inconvenient.

Producing tables/grids containing

a reasonable amount of

information now seems easier.

Flip Camera Used to film my vox pop, rather

than a normal video camera as it

uploaded footage faster.

Convenient as it was small and

very easy to use.

The quality was not as good as a

normal video camera.

It was my first time using a flip

camera and therefore I learnt

how to film with one.

Technology Where used and why? Strengths Limitations My progress

Blogger Used to produce my production

logs for each week of production

and to upload call sheets. For

reflection and to schedule each

filming session.

Making my production logs in

each week of production made me

reflect on the progress made in

production and encouraged me

positively.

Remembering what I had to at the

end of each week was sometimes

difficult as it required retrospective

data and my memory isn’t too

great.

Using Blogger again in

production made me even more

confident in my ability to use this

technology.

Microsoft Powerpoint Used to make my call sheets

because they could be made

quickly.

Making tables in PowerPoint is

very easy and therefore each call

log could be made within a short

space of time.

Having to PDF each call log was

time-consuming.

I learnt how to produce tables

quickly and how to make them

attractive.

Issuu Used to upload all of my call logs so

that I could embed them into my

blog posts.

The uploading of each call log was

very quick.

Filling out the information leading

up to the upload button is very

confusing, complex and looks long.

I have become more confident in

using Isuu as a place to house all

of my PowerPoint's.

Live Type Used to create all of my graphics. You download fonts from ‘DaFont’

and use them in Live Type for your

graphics. Making graphics is quite

simple and easy.

If you have no previous experience

with this software – like myself, it

takes a long time to understand all

of the tools and to be able to

produce your graphics confidently.

I learnt how to create graphics in

a software other than Fireworks,

I have also learnt how to

download fonts and put them in

this software.

Video Camera Used to film all of my film’s footage. The camera was easy to use as the

buttons to operate it were clearly

labelled and I have had experience

using these camera’s prior to the

filming of my film. The quality of

the footage was good and clear.

If I wanted to watch some of the

footage back it was quite long to do

so as I had to search for the frame.

I can now use these video

camera’s with great ease and I

understand all of the functions

that are on it.

Technology Where used and why? Strengths Limitations My progress

Blogger Used to continue making my

production logs for each week of

post-production.

Allowed me to stay organised and

on track with my work.

It was long-winded having to use

Blogger at the end of each week of

post-production to record what I

had done.

By now I believe I am a

competent Blogger user as I have

used it for many weeks,

exploring different tools.

www.flvto.com Used to convert the song we used in

our film to an mp3 format.

Very straight forward and easy to

use.

Sometimes the conversion would

not work, I had to keep trying.

I now know how to download

music and change the format

through conversion.

iMovie Used to edit all of my film’s footage. The project storyboard in this

software made it easy for my

partner and I to organise our film

into chronological order. The

viewer also made it really easy to

watch what we had put in the

storyboard and allowed us to see

if any improvements should be

made.

When trying to do an audio

overlap, having to detach the audio

from shots and put it elsewhere

was very long. The ‘detach audio’

tool was also not put in a place that

was clearly evident we had to look

for it which also wasted time.

I now have a better

understanding of how to

cut/trim shots in iMovie and I

can also import downloaded

music and position it into my

film.

Final Cut Used to import my final opening

sequence and to edit the graphics

in.

When placing the graphics over

the footage you could position

them where you wanted them to

be.

Being my first time using this

software it took a great amount of

time getting used to it and

understanding how to import the

graphics into Final Cut after we’d

made them in Live Type.

I have learnt the basics of using

Final Cut. I can now import

graphics into this software and

position them where I want over

footage.

YouTube Used to get the link for the song

used in my film. Used to upload my

final opening sequence.

Finding the song I wanted was

very easy as I just had to type in

the artist and name of the song

and get the link from the html bar.

Uploading my final opening

sequence was straight forward.

It took quite long to upload my

opening sequence.

I think by now I have learnt how

to use YouTube and how to

manage my videos and uploads.
