What is the CWR information system? What information do we want to make available? What do we want the system to do? How are we putting the system together? What else could we achieve during the project?

What is the CWR information system?
We want to: Store information about CWR
Link with other information systems
Answer questions about CWR

What is the CWR information system?
Two parts to be completed during the project:
Core taxon database
Pilot information system: taxon case studies

What information do we want to make available? Nomenclature and taxon relatedness
Distribution and status of taxa Reference tables/descriptors Maps Photographic images Scientific literature Documents Website URLs ‘News’ items

What do we want the system to do?
Some of the questions people want answers to: How many CWR species are there in Europe?
How many CWR species are threatened?
List all European Aegilops cylindrica populations
List all Lens spp. reported sites
List CWR in Germany
List CWR populations outsided protected areas
Show a map of all population of xy

What do we want the system to do?
Taxon Show related taxa Show taxon distribution Show taxon status/threats Show relevant sources of information
Geographical location Show extant taxa at a location Show status/threats at a location Show relevant sources of information

How are we putting the system together?
Validating the core taxon data Building and testing the core taxon interface Defining standard for data publication Gathering data for the case studies Building and testing a pilot website, using the
case studies

How are we putting the system together?
The pilot case study website - a tool to refine the requirements of the information system
User acceptance testing panel Monthly iterative cycle
Test - enter case study data - one hour per month initally Feed back - use the Forum - half hour per month initially Incorporate feedback
Together we will model the requirements of the CWR information system

What else could we achieve during the project?
Core taxon database - test and validate XML schema - review and discuss in Forum Descriptors - develop and discuss in Forum
Map server - collaborate
Query tool - discuss in Forum Modelling tool - discuss in Forum BioMOBY - collaborate?
