• Supports research in selected priority areas• Implemented by the European Commission (EC)• Running from 2007 to 2013• Total budget = 53,2 Euro• An important budget increase from FP6

• Made up of 4 main specific programmes

• Plus a specific programme on nuclear research (Euratom &JRC)

• Integration of the international dimension into all specific programmes

• The budget of the “Cooperation” specific programme is the largest one (around 60% of the total budget)

• Coordination Action (CAs): coordination of research activities (events / studies / expert groups etc.)

• Specific Support Action (SSAs): support to research activities and policies (designed to underpin the implementation of FP 7) (fact findings / feasibility studies / data dissemination etc.)

• At least 3 independent legal entities from 3 different EU Member States (MS) or Associated Countries (AC)

• provided this minimum has been achieved, any number of additional participants from other countries can be included

• interest organizations & entities established under Community law)
