eudat research data management services
DESCRIPTION
EUDAT also offers Data Management and Open Access Support. As a cross-community, data-driven project EUDAT is strongly positioned to support the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 open access data pilot aiming at a reliable and high-performance infrastructures for data management – because EUDAT shares the same goals.TRANSCRIPT

B2SHARE: an Open Research Data
Repository
• Easy deposit service
for storing and sharing
research data
• Targets the “long tail” of
“small” data
• Offered to all European
researchers and citizen
scientists

Open Access Principles
• Two principles on open access:
– all data in the CDI should, in time, become full open
access. Open access is the norm for CDI data;
– embargo periods for original producers are fully
supported, on condition that such data become
openly accessible when the embargo period expires
(“publishing windows”).
• These imply:
– policy harmonisation
– common licence scheme
Opening Data
Open Data
Open data “with restrictions”
Open data “upon request”
Data shared
within groups
(group
membership
required)
Solutions:
AAI,
eduGAIN
Confidential or sensitive Data (e.g. Patient data) with highly restricted use
Solutions: AAI, Application mechanisms (e.g. REMS), Anonym.
OA to Research Data
Key ingredients for Success
• Trust (research data is not publication!)
• Quality & Performance of the service (easy
deposit and search functionalities, good quality of
data and metadata, persistence, stats and credit
mechanisms, etc.)
• Interoperability with other repos and integration
with existing workflows and environments,
service oriented thinking
• Clear access and reuse policies, terms of use,
etc.
Data Management Planning
• DMP is A Good Thing ™
• Part of EUDAT’s mission is to disseminate and
promote best practice in data management
• Collaboration with DCC to create a version of
DMPonline following H2020 guidelines
– Tool for EC funded projects
– Extension to national projects later (?)
• Promote EUDAT resources!
– EUDAT as a trusted repository for EC funded projects
– Earmarked resources for open data pilot
Easy to Use
• Services adaptive to communities environments
• Open to everyone
• Tools and clear policies to facilitate usage
User-Driven
• Multidisciplinary services
• Designed for and by the communities
• Meeting real communities needs
Sustainable
• Funding models
• Partnerships with other national and European infrastructures
• Relying on national centers
Infrastructure Pillars
Summary
• EUDAT strongly supports Open Access policy and offer tools to enable this policy
• EUDAT Open Research Data Repository (B2SHARE) can be used by EC funded projects to release their research data – Earmarked resources for Open Data Pilot
• Open Access agenda should be pushed beyond – making data “openable”
– Facilitating route to Open Access
• Partnership is required among all OA actors to agree on common message
