HOW YOU CAN HELP SAVE OUR SURVIVORS

An· army of volunteers, enlisted in a nne-day humanitarian campaign on behalf of their .fellow: .J~»,s. OV~ts~a.s, _ '~HI . visit Jewish homes in Greater Clevelamf to pick-up selected canned foods on SDay, Sunday, November 14.

As 131 result of the starchy, monotonous diet on wliich they have been eX'isting for a long time, hundreds of th·uusands of Jews in the DP camps and other parts of Europe have been found to be suffering from malnutrition. The S.O.S. (Supplies for Overseas Survivors) campaign of thej Joint Distribution Committee is therefore concentrating this year on vitamin-rich, high-protein foods, such as MILK, JUICES, MEATS, FRUITS, FATS AND OILS, AND COCOA. Thousands of paper sacks to be filled with canned foods have been mailed thr oughout the city. Because of the risk of breakage and damage to other foods, contributors are asked not to include any glass jars or paclro.ges.

The exodus of Europe's homeless Jews and DP's has begun in earnest but for the hundreds of thousands waiting to join in this emigration and for those remaining in Europe to rebuild their shattered lives and communities, these essential foods are of prime importance in helping them regain their strength. Unlike last year's campaign, no used clothing is to be collected this year. The pick-up on Sunday will concentrate on these selected foods in tins only.
