EU-US Collaboration Events
Orlando, Florida
21 February 2017
Events Summary
EU-US Collaboration Events Summary From February 19 to 23, 2017, the EU*US eHealth Work Horizon 2020 Consortium met in Orlando,
Florida, for the HIMSS17 Annual Conference and Exhibition as part of the planned activities of Work Plan
5, Strengthening the Project, through dissemination and exploitation. The Consortium utilized the event
to spread awareness in every facet and level of Health IT, starting from the entry level or career-seeking
beginners in eHealth and health IT to the advanced and most influential women and men. The
consortium arranged to have a booth in the Career Fair, spreading awareness for those at the entry level
of their digital skills development, to students and educators in the eHealth field, to other potential
users of the future deliverables for the project.
In addition, the Consortium had two collaboration events in order to disseminate the project to as well
as to learn beneficial strategies from stakeholders. The networking events included interactive
discussions with key stakeholders, holding two separate presentations for the project as well as
comments and ideas from the stakeholders as to how to spread the impact of the project and further
the effect of the work past the 18-month timeframe. A White Paper, entitled “EU*US eHealth Works to
Improve Global Workforce Development”, and attached herein, was also published by HIMSS and was
presented to participants at all networking events.

AGENDA:
The first portion of the Roundtable focused on the issues and problems related to the lack of eHealth
skills and competencies faced by the global healthcare workforce. The second portion focused on
identifying solutions and how we collectively come together to resolve these issues. We engaged
participants in the strengthening eHealth workforce development by providing background on the EU-
US MoU, which led to the creation of HITCOMP and translated into the project call under Horizon 2020.
This was a way for us to look at these issues with varying perspectives. The discussion that took place
throughout the presentation and at the immediate end prevented us from diving into our action
planning group work. However, the participants were very engaged in identifying solutions, discussing
how to bridge gaps in skills and competencies, exploring creating innovative tools, resources, and
investigating other tangible ways to be impact the health IT/informatics field. This dialog ended up being
just as important as an action planning session as it really enabled all to understand our project more in-
depth and fostered relationships beyond this event.
