Warnings From Israel’s History ”For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. 2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3 They all ate the same spiritual food 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”[8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. 9 We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel. 11

These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come “ (1 Cor 10:1-11 KJV).

Think about it…

Page 5: Old Testament: Dispensations, People and Events--Class Collaboration (ANLI)

List your reasons … Collaborative Class FeedbackGroup 1: You must know the Old Testament to understand the New Testament—Some things in the Old Testament have typology that you need to confirm in the New. God revealed more about Himself from the Old Testament to the New. He gave progressive revelation knowledge.

Group 2: Reflects events that happened before the New Covenant.—The blood sacrifice is one of the central messages of the Old Testament. The blood of the lamb…atonement for our sins. Laid the framework for the New Testament and coming of the Messiah.

Group 3: Gives us a history of who God is and what He wants us to do. They didn’t know who they were worshipping. It’s like building a pyramid. The Old Testament sets a foundation and helps us understand God and His righteousness. The Old Testament enriches the New Testament and is a guiding light to it.

The Dispensations --(Collaborative Class Feedback)Patriarchal

• Promise that God gave to the patriarchs. A prohibition with Adam and Noah. Chief fathers were Adam, Noah, and Abraham. • Adam: He gave Adam a home and dominion over the rest of creation.• Abraham: Gave a promise to Abraham for his seed.  Look unto your loins and that would be how many descendants you’d have.  We all come from the seed of Abraham. Promises were both spiritual and earthly.• Noah: He gave blessings to Noah. During Noah’s period of time, He caused a flood to occur.

Jewish (Mosaic)• Moses went into the mountains and got the ten commandments• It’s was originally for the Jewish people• God gave the law through Moses. The law brings order. – Gen, Exod,  Lev & Deut. Or otherwise known as the Torah

Christian (Church)• Began on the Day of Pentecost. The birth of the New Testament church at about 30 A.D.• Grace comes in, no longer under the law. Grace is God’s capability for your lack of ability.
