Ethiopia took over the leadership of COSECSA The 16 th Annual General meeting of the College of Surgeons Of East Central and Southern Africa , COSECSA appointed Dr Miliard Derbew as the 8 th president of the college. Dr Miliard on his acceptance speech indicated that he would continue the work started by his predecessors. He will work hard to address the resolution passed by the World Health Assembly on May this year to Strengthening emergency and essential surgical care and anesthesia as a component of universal health coverage. Dr Abebe Bekele is also appointed to join the executive committee of COSECSA as chairman of the examinations and accreditation committee. On the occasion three General surgeon graduated and two Neurosurgeon 1.Dr Abenezer Trisit and 2.Dr Azarias Kassahun joined COSECSA after successfully passing the fellowship exams. Dr Azarias scored the highest grade on his specialty exam and awarded a medal for best trainee in Neurosurgery and he also received another award ,the prestigious award of the college, the Lindsay Stewart award for his research paper. The college will expand surgical training in the region by increasing the number of accredited hospitals as well as the trainee doctors. COSECSA constitute 10 member countries ( Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique Rwanda and Burundi.
