•Ethiopia has one of the largest population of orphans in the world.•Many children were left orphans by famine, conflict and other diseases that claimed their parents lives, but there is a steady increase in children orphaned because of AIDS.•There are 5 million school age children that are not attending school approximately 3 million are girls.• 95% of girls that live on the street have been sexually exploited.•There are more 60,000 street children living in the Ethiopian capital.

•There is a large number of Ethiopian refugees spread out across the world.•In 2008 due to escalating conflict and food crisis over 20,000 Somalis and Ethiopians crossed the Gulf of Aden , many that survive the dangerous journey are exhausted and emotionally shattered.•Ethiopian refugees in Yemen, Libya, and Sudan ado not get the same treatment that other refugees would receive.•Many times the treatment of Ethiopian refugees are so unfair that they are sent back to Ethiopia.

•Over 50% of Ethiopia’s population live on or under the poverty line and suffer with poverty and hunger.•In 2003 13 million people needed international assistance as opposed to the average 5million even though the Ethiopian government made their own efforts to address the poverty and hunger issue.•Access to food on a regular basis is regularly denied to about one third of the population.•In 2000 Ethiopia was ranked as the 4th poorest country in the world.•Relief experts say as many as 800,000 people are threatened with starvation, and if the problem continues it can turn into a famine where as many as 8 million people could be affected.
