Today, India needs between 27 to 30 millon unit houses. Analysts are not

very hopeful for the residential segment. Issues that have been troubling

the market are expected to continue. Given high property prices, interest

rates and liquidity problems of developers, the residential market is ripe

for a price correction. Clear trends in the real estate market are very

difficult to predict at this stage, but it seems like a prolonged slowdown, if

not a correction. The real estate sector in India has seen $3.2 billion (Rs.

15,500 crore or Rs. 155 billion) of private equity investor exits in the last

four years. The total PE exits from the real estate sector in the 24months

that started January 2012 would be of $3 billion.
