PREAMBLE

The Department of Advance Training and Coaching imparts sports coaching to the

candidates for developing their competency and enhancing their skills in the field of sports

coaching. The programmes offered by the Department of Advanced Training and coaching are

aimed at graduates aspiring to become coaches and trainers in various Sports disciplines.

The courses will provide a clear understanding of the scientific techniques, strategies and

specific knowledge in the chosen disciplines to the students. Department of Advance Training

and Coaching provide the opportunity to the candidates to enhance and develop quality in their

professional practice and prepare them for the world of high performance coaching. Students will

engage in work-based learning experiences that promote and encourage analysis and critical

reflection on current coaching practices and contexts. They will develop expertise and

knowledge in leadership, management and relationship building, as well as gain an

understanding of the fundamental principles of science and practice which will serve as a

theoretical backdrop for professional practice.

The department working with vision to pursuit of excellence in sports coaching

standards, nodal agency in the area of sports coaching and holistic development of an individual.

The department seeks to provide highly specialized sports coaching courses, which are based on

the latest technological and professional developments around the world. The graduates can

become trainers / Coaches in Schools, Colleges, Sports Academies and Centre of Excellence in

Government / Private Sectors. The main object is to prepare high quality sport coaches and

physical fitness trainers in various games/sports with micro specializations, in order to cater to

the ever increasing demand of our Indian society and to uplift the Indian sport standards.

Swarnim Gujarat Sports University is conducting Certificate Course in Sports Coaching.

The sports disciplines included in the Certificate Course in Sports Coaching are as below

CCSC 1. Eligibility: The Selection of the candidates will be done on the basis of the following eligibility criteria:

• Education Qualification: Passed Senior School Exam (12th) from recognized School Board/ State Board.

• Sports Achievement: Minimum two times participation in District Championship or one-time State or higher competitions.

CCSC 2. Age Limit:

16 to 45 years as on the time of admission.

CCSC 3. Duration:

• 3 Month (Regular) • 6 Month (Part - Time)

CCSC 4. Course Structure: 1. The Certificate Programme is of three months for regular programme and six months

(Saturday & Sunday) for Part - Time Programme. The medium of instruction shall be English, Hindi and Gujarati. The students are allowed to write the answers in respective languages as offered in the examinations.

2. The programme consists of the following types of courses: • Theory Subjects • Sports Specialization Practicum

CCSC 5. Academic Information: The Details of about theory subjects & practical skills of Certificate Course in Sports Coaching are as follows.

• Theory Subjects o Allied Sciences o Sports Specialization Theory

• Sports Specialization Practicum o Skill Proficiency and Playing Ability o Coaching Lessons

CCSC 6. Method of Instruction: • Theory: Through Lectures, Discussion, Seminar, Paper readings, projects, films / video

analysis, Instructional Work, assignment, term papers, Book Review, Project Work etc. • Practical: Participation in practical classes, conduct coaching classes, competition and

officiating. CCSC 7. Examinations:

• There shall be one final exam at the end of certificate programme. A candidate who does not pass the Certificate Examination He / she shall be permitted to appear in next two academic sessions from the date of admission to certificate programme.

• If a candidate is owing to shortage of attendance beyond condonation limit / rules prescribed OR on medical grounds, such candidates are not permitted to proceed for examination. Such candidates shall redo the Certificate course in the next academic session.

• To pass, a candidate must obtain at least 50% marks separately in each subject / area.

• If a candidate fails in theory subjects, including that of main game / sport, practical skills or in Teaching / Coaching lessons during Final examination, he / she shall be eligible to supplementary examination to be conducted by the University timely applying for it and on payment of an additional examination Fee as fixed by the University. He / she are required to complete the Certificate Course with in two academic sessions.

• A candidate shall be eligible to apply for revaluation in only Theory Subjects in accordance with the prevailing University Rules for this purpose.

CCSC 8. Dates for examinations: The Certificate Course started from August and hence, the exams may be conducted as

follows. For (August – January) Batch exam is in the month of February. For (February – July) Batch exam is in the month August. CCSC 9. Table-1: Scheme of Examination

• A student of Certificate course requires minimum 80% attendance to be eligible for appearing in the examination. Students who have 79% to 70% of attendance shall apply for condonation in the prescribed form with the prescribed fee along with the Medical Certificate. Students who have below 70% of attendance are not eligible to appear for the examination.

CCSC 11. Woman Candidates: • Married woman is also eligible for admission. In case, a woman candidate

conceives during the course, she will have to discontinue her studies. She can join back in the next academic session.

CCSC 12. External Evaluation: Question Paper Pattern:

• Questions may be drawn on 50 MCQ of 2 mark each or the pattern given below:

Each question paper for external evaluation shall have five questions. The pattern will be as follow:

TOTAL 100 Note – The paper of Allied Science must be prepared from all included subjects equally i.e. 25 marks from each subject.

CCSC 13. Evaluation:

• The Performance of a student in certificate course is evaluated in terms of percentage of marks with a provision for conversion to grades. Evaluation of certificate course shall be done by a course end examination.

• Attendance shall be taken as a component of continuous assessment although the students should have minimum 80 % attendance in certificate course. The final examination, which will be written type examination of at least 3 hours duration. The marks to be allotted on the basis of final examination performance. The evaluation of practicum will also be based on final practical examination.

CCSC 14. Minimum Passing Standard: • The Passing minimum for Certificate programme is 50% of the 100 marks

(i.e. 50 marks) CCSC 15. Grading:

• Once the marks of the final examinations for each of the courses are available, they will be added. The marks thus obtained will then be graded as per the below table: Grades / Divisions shall be awarded as follows:

1.- 80% and above - Distinction Distinction 2.- 70% to below 80% - 1st Division (A Grade) 3.- 60% to below 70% - 2nd Division (B Grade) 4.- 50% to below 60% - 3rd Division (C Grade) 5.- Below 50% - Fail CCSC 16. Award of Certificate in Sports Coaching:

• A candidate shall be awarded certificate in Sports Coaching by the University on successful completion of the course and having passed in both theory and practical separately by securing at least 50% marks in each subject / practical.

CCSC-101: ALLIED SCIENCES ESSENCE OF THE COURSE

This course will enable students to understand the modern concept of sports training, sports kinesiology, sports biomechanics, sports psychology and physiology of exercise. It aims to develop understanding about the aim and objective of these allied sciences, system of sports training, training components, training process, training programming, planning, fundamental and mechanical concepts, kinematics and kinetics of human movement, human body and its regulations, their support and movements, integration and control systems. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME

After completing this course, the students will be able to • understand the modern concept of sports training. • describe the principles of sports training. • evaluate and develop system of sports training – basic performance, intermediate

performance and high performance training. • identify talents. • describe the role of sports psychology for athletes and in their performance. • define and describe the term kinesiology and biomechanics. • explain mechanical concepts (force, lever, Newton’s laws of motion and Projectile). • develop the knowledge and appreciation of the importance of the study of kinesiology as

ESSENCE OF THE COURSE This course will enable students to realize theory and practicum courses into practice and

help them to use their previously acquired knowledge and practices in systematized and structured manner to coach effectively. It aims to provide the student with the opportunity of undergoing a meaningful experience as a practitioner and to inculcate and demonstrate necessary skills for excelling as a professional coach, develop skills and competencies for working with diverse groups. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME

After completing this course, the students will be able to • develop coaching proficiency for outdoor and indoor activities. • organize and execute mass demonstration/displays. • conduct coach education program for various age groups. • demonstrate competence in facilitation and presentation of skills using appropriate
