Milltech are very proud of our record of over 35 years helping learners and employers in Sunderland and the North East achieve their chosen qualifications and enabling employers to recruit and develop their own fully trained work forces. Over the last year, in excess of 200 learners have achieved their qualifications with Milltech and we have continued to work with our existing loyal customer groups and the 50 new businesses who have joined us over the last year. Over 88% of learners joining Milltech for their apprenticeship achieve their chosen qualifications, one of the highest in the North East. Our quality standards also remain high having achieved an OFSTED Grade 2 at our most recent inspection in June 2017. The First Year of NEW Government Training Schemes 12 Months ago the government announced new funding schemes would apply to all those engaged in training from private training providers like Milltech, to colleges and to employers. The objective was to encourage greater participation from employers both financially and support to the learners in the workplace. Large employers are required to contribute 0.5% of their salary costs where these are in excess of £3m. Employers under this amount are required to contribute 10% of the costs of training where they have over 50 staff. For under 50 employers this contribution is only required if the learner is 19 or over. Additionally, any employer taking on a 16-18 year old will receive a £1000 grant towards employment costs. Employing a 16-18 year old particularly as we go towards the end of the academic year, represents a very effective and economic route to take. NEW TO THE TEAM: Aaron Rutter Aaron joined Milltech in July 2017, a few days after leaving Southmoor Academy, such was his enthusiasm to begin his apprenticeship with a unique opportunity offered by Milltech. At Milltech Aaron is responsible for the recruitment of new learners and their placements with suitable employers. He sends out invitations to new applicants and conducts a preview event each Wednesday to meet the new learners and to prepare CV’s for going out to employers. In his short career so far, Aaron has recruited over 100 new learners for Milltech. Learner Recruitment For all vacancies, details are posted on the National Apprenticeship Service website showing details of the apprenticeships offered, the employers and showing Milltech as the preferred Training Provider. Details are also shown on the Milltech Website which allows learners to apply directly via email applications are drawn down daily and analysed with suitable candidates being invited to Milltech Preview Event each Wednesday morning at 9:30am. At the Preview Event, a full presentation of how the apprenticeship works is detailed to the potential learners and a detailed CV to be sent to prospective employers. From this, the employer will indicate their preferred candidate’s and Milltech will arrange suitable interview dates and times. Now is a very important period in the Training Calendar as we are beginning to receive applicants from these leaving school in the summer so make sure that we are aware of the future recruitments so we can select the best learners for you. Traineeships Milltech have now beguntraineeship programmesinitially for Motor Vehicle. This provides the learner withvaluable work experience to get toknow the job itself and working withemployers in the motor trade.

After a few weeks of theassessment period involving bothon the job and classroom trainingmutual decisions are made by boththe learner and employer aboutcommencing a Level 2Apprenticeship.

If not agreed, Milltech will thenendeavour to locate otheremployers to provide further workexperience and additionalopportunities.

Of the first group of 8 Trainees, 6were offered full Level 2Apprenticeships with theiremployers and a great opportunityto start on their chosen careerpath.

Level 5 in Leadership and Management Milltech are continuing to progress higher level training with ourconsultant Mark Clelland. Over 60 local managers have now achieved their qualification giving valuablesupport to achievement in their everyday roles and enabling progression ontoSunderland University degree courses.

Our next course will be held from October 2018 so make sure you letMilltech know if you wish to be involved and attend our informationsession in September.

APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR 2018 Milltech have continued their envious record of training theSunderland Apprentice of the year. For 2018, Ellie Foggin achieved the prestigious award at a glittering ceremony at the Hilton Garden.

Ellie is at a Medical Practitioner, where Milltech have a long record of supplying excellent apprentices.Ellie joined straight after attending a Milltech Preview event and then attended specially selectedinterviews in her chosen career choice.

Keeley Usher has been her tutor for the whole period providing continuous, assured support as Milltechprides itself on a low staff turnover.

Milltech have now had 4Apprentices of the Year and Elliefollows on from Toni Veater atFarrans Construction in 2017,Rachel Reay at the Link Schooland Gabrielle Ophield at the BIC.

Milltech’s Success StoriesCharlotte HendersonCharlotte started working in thereception at the BusinessInnovation Centre, Sunderland,where she worked towards a Level2 Diploma in BusinessAdministration. She then found fulltime employment at TransGlobalFreight Management where shehas recently achieved her Level 3Diploma in Customer Service.Charlotte is now responsible for theAirfreight Operations atTransGlobal Freight Management.

Victoria SmithVictoria started working at DrStephenson’s and Partners as anOffice Junior completing her Level2 Diploma in BusinessAdministration.She very quicklyprogressed to herrole as MedicalReceptionist,which wassupported by thecompletion of herLevel 3 Diploma inCustomerService.

Ryan CloseRyan is currently employed at EvansHalshaw Renault. He works in theAccounts Department assisting theAccounts Manager and othercolleagues. Ryan is responsible forusing the bespoke office systemsand processing paperwork. Ryanrecently completed his BusinessAdministration Level 2 qualificationand has progressed on to startinghis Business Administration Level 3.

Brogan WatsonBrogan has recently completed herLevel 2 Diploma in CustomerService at Hylton Medical Group.She will now progress to a Level 2Diploma in Business Administrationto support the elements of her newrole as Medical Administrator.

Nadine MaddisonNadine has recently completed herLevel 3 Diploma in BusinessAdministration whilst working withinthe Warfarin Team at IntraHealth.Nadine has also completed herLevel 2 ICT Functional Skills tosupport her with the analysisrequirements of her role.

Bethany DoddsBethany is currently employed atWearside Medical Sunderland. Herjob role consists of administrationduties such as working on thereception desk, meeting andgreeting patients, bookingappointments using the diarysystem and dealing with telephonecalls. Bethany has completed herLevel 2 Business Administrationand has developed so well withinher role that she has gainedadditional responsibilities to enableher to progress on to her businessadministration Level 3.

Charley ShepherdCharley completed a CustomerService Level 2 qualification andthen moved into a new role withWingrove Spares in Cramlington.Charley has now progressed and iscompleting an AdvancedApprenticeship in BusinessAdministration. Charley enjoys hernew role and is able to deal withcustomers efficiently and islearning new skills inAdministration.

Zoe Wilkinson Zoe has successfully completedher advanced apprenticeship inCustomer Service. She worksfor Minchella & Co Ice CreamParlour in South Shieldsserving customers with foodand drink orders. Zoeprogressed from a CustomerService Level 2 to a Level 3 andhas developed excellent skills incustomer service and care.
