    FACT SHEETRear axle installation RAPD-GR

Rear air suspension, 2 axles 1 pusher/1 drivenThe RAPD-GR is an air-suspended bogie with a liftable pusher axle. The 62 Tractor has either an electro-hydraulically steered or a fixed pusher axle. The suspension is available with single or hub reduction rear axles.

RAPD-GR is optimized in two versions, with pusher axle load 7.5 or 9.0 tonnes, for long-haul transportation on good roads and for transportations on rough roads.

Electronically controlled air-suspension systemThe RAPD-GR has an electronically controlled air-suspension system that improves the driving comfort and reduces the risk of damages to the cargo. The system automatically controls the chassis height during driving and ensures that the truck is in bal-ance and compensates uneven weight for the platform, even if the cargo is not evenly distributed. The manual height control with pre-programmed loading dock height facilitates the goods handling.

Smooth air suspension improves the driving comfort. Steered pusher axle makes the truck easy to manoeuvre and

gives it a tight turning circle. Liftable pusher axle reduces tyre wear and fuel consumption. Excellent handling and stable driving comfort. Adjustable drive axle pressure for optimised traction on slip-

    pery roads.

Axle load limitationThere are a number of different maximum drive axle load limits to choose from. Once the drive axle load limit is exceeded a lifted pusher axle is automatically lowered.

If the maximum drive axle load 11.5 tonnes (RALIM115) is chosen, the function Lift+30 is available by the electronically controlled suspension. This makes it possible to lift the pusher axle when the drive axle load is less than RALIM+30% (14.95 tonnes) and the speed is lower than 30 km/h.

If over speed or over load deactivates the Lift+30 function, the bogie switch/lift button must be pressed again once the con-ditions allow a new activation of Lift+30. The Lift+30 results in improved traction when operating on slippery roads and increased manoeuvrability in confined spaces where one does not want the pusher axle scrubbing across the ground.

To protect the front axle load during lift and dump of pusher axle the front axle load is limited according to the front axle load (FAL), specified for the vehicle.

Compact stabilizer installationThe drive axel is equipped with a forward facing stabilizer bar which gives both well directed stabilizing forces and no stabilizer protruding behind the rearmost tyres. For the pusher axle with the pusher suspension concept (spring link concept) the springs (dual leaves) and the axle itself work like a roll stabilizer. This installation gives excellent handling and stable driving comfort.
