A message from theInternational Studies Program Director
Asked for a paragraph of farewell sentiments for this year'syearbook, I have this to say: You're amazing, go have a
wonderful life, good bye! It is still not a paragraph, so I add:have fun, be kind to animals, make lots of friends and influence
people, brush your teeth and go to bed at some point duringthe 24 hours of the day, at the same time 'seize the day' as
they say, by the ears - or perhaps by the bootstraps... mixingmy metaphors as any English teacher should. Say please and
thank you, remember your mother and father, send us apostcard occasionally and come back to visit. Be good. It has
been great to share a bit of your journey. With my best wishes,
Hilary Sy-Quia

School Somme trip
The FND years 3, 4, 5 and the IB 1's have been seeking interest in differentaspects of the First World War. Whether in History class, in Englishclass, in Psychology class or in Chemistry class, the students studiedthis great period in time and were now ready to get out there and try tobuild on their knowledge and understanding of the War by standing in thespot where the young soldiers had once stood. There was a visit of theoriginal frontline trenches that the British and Newfoundland troopsattacked from (July 1916).

Coming all the way from in Maison-Laffitte, three students from theErmitage International School ofFrance (IB and ES section) flew toBotswana, Africa for both aadventurous walking safari followedby an intellectual Round SquareConference at Penryn College in SouthAfrica. During the safari, the studentswere pushed beyond their comfortwhile scavenging through theuncharted lands of Africa. As for theconference, it gave our students theopportunity to learn more about co-existence and the awareness neededto become a great future leader, whileconnecting with over 500 otherstudents from around the globe.
