K. If all of the world´s cultural heritage (sports, music, fashion, architecture, literature, painting, etc..) was contained in a time capsule, what would you include to demonstrate the legacy of

If all of the world´s cultural

heritage was contained in a time capsule, from Brazil I

would include…

a football ,

Football is known as the Brazilian sport. So, nothing more obvious than including a football in a time capsule to spread Brazil’s legacy in this sport. Brazil has already won 5 world cups and is the country with most titles in football. As a team sport, football represents the willingness to help and teamwork spirit of the Brazilian people.

a Carnival costume,

The Brazilian Carnival is considered the biggest one in the world. It is celebrated all over the country and it is through the costumes that one can express and perceive the intrinsic happiness and joy of Brazilian people.

a Caipirinha and Feijoada recipe,

The Brazilian cultural legacy wouldn’t be complete without its main food and beverage recipes. Because of the variety of ingredients used in the Feijoada, it is a highly nutritious and unanimous meal, eaten by poor and rich people. Caipirinha is made of Cachaça, Brazil's most common distilled alcoholic beverage. Both Caipirinha and Feijoada are usually enjoyed in big groups, celebrations and reunions, which also illustrates the happiness and warmth of Brazilian people.

an Elis Regina MPB CD,

Besides samba, which is a famous music style from Brazil, I believe that Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) would represent the Brazilian culture. And in the MPB matter, no one is more representative than Elis Regina.MPB, like the Brazilian culture itself, is a combination of many traditional urban music styles. The Brazilian and foreign styles mixture becomes one more time a legacy of Brazil’s heritage. Elis Regina was the biggest selling single in Brazilian music history at the time MPB was rising and many artists have since performed in the style.

pictures of Oscar Niemeyer’s constructions,

Oscar Niemeyer is the most famous Brazilian architect. He contributed greatly to the legacy of Brazilian architecture by creating a unique design for many of the most important public buildings in Brazil, such as the Government headquarters in Brasilia, Pampulha park, and Niterói, Brasilia and Curitiba Museums.Like the Brazilian people, Niemeyer’s architecture expresses innovation and courage, freedom and invention.

a Brazilian beaches travel guide,

Since Brazilian summer and beaches attract many tourists and are recognized for their beauty, a travel guide which describes the beaches, explains the best time of year to visit and gives tips about them would definitely be a useful item to further spread the Brazilian passion for summer and natural resources richness.

and, last but not least, a ‘Senhor do Bom Fim’ bracelet. There is a Brazilian tradition that says that one

should tie this wish ribbon around the wrist with 3 knots and make a wish for each of the 3 knots. It is believed the 3 wishes will come true when the Brazilian Wish Bracelet falls off the wrist on its own.Worn by generations and generations, these bracelets are a symbol of faith and good luck. In summary, it represents the strong perseverance for which Brazilian people are known for: they never give up believing in their wishes.

Even though the great majority of the items I would include in a time capsule to demonstrate de cultural legacy of Brazil was mainly “imported” from other countries, it was the Brazilian people´s adjustment that made them well known traditions of Brazil. All of them demonstrate the cultural heritage of Brazil and the legacy that should be perpetuated through time: perseverance, happiness, good humor, hospitality and natural richness.
