Ayudha Puja is a beautiful Hindu tradition that
dates back to thousands of years. This is also known
as ‘Astra Puja’ and employees worship various
tools, objects and machinery that they use every
day.
Every year, we have a grand Ayudha Puja that
brings together all employees and we celebrate it
with Pomp and Splendour. This is performed to
bring in happiness and prosperity by invoking
God's blessings. The wonderful thing about this is
that builds an inner realisation that work is an
offering to God. This thought is a highly motivating
force that pushes us to do our best and touch a new
summit of excellence.
This year, we celebrated Ayudha Puja on
1st October 2014 at our three manufacturing units
at Hosur in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore in
Karnataka. A grand puja was performed in all the
units and delicious sweets and fruits were
distributed to all employees. Every one went home
with happy hearts and blessings.

ERL’s F-PRO is gaining currency in the power
industry as it incorporates many valuable features
and offers a great deal of flexibility. There is a
good demand for this product and we have
bagged some good orders for it too. It offers
diverse applications like providing current and /
or voltage protection for Lines, Transformers,
Generators, Motors, Busbars, Reactors,
Capacitors and so on. The rear communication
capability such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-103
and Modbus allows integration into a Substation
Automation or Monitoring System / SCADA.
F-PRO is a family of Multi-function Numerical
Relays that complement each other. Each relay in
the family has its own set of functions which can
meet many kinds of power automation
applications. The products in the family are
configured with a set of current and / or voltage
operated protection, metering and data
communication functions.
System analysis is a crucial part of the role these
products play and they can generate fault logs,
disturbance recording and sequence of events
with 1ms time stamp resolution. The relay is draw
out in construction and this enhances
serviceability and ease maintenance.
Key Functions of F-PRO Relays:
F-PRO series of relays offer various current and / or
voltage protections packaged into simple to use
configurations.

Substation Automation System (SAS) and
commissioned the Control Relay Panels at
Neyer i Sub S ta t ion ,Kenya. ERL had to
integrate two other supplier's equipment (ABB
and CGL) as part of the SAS too and we had
been quite successful.
KPLC was very happy and appreciative about
the performance of ERL in getting the SAS up
and running. This encouraged the uti l i ty
(KPLC) to award ERL Mint a new order through
Etrade. This was for 66kV Substation panels
with SAS located at Lokhichar.
The new order includes supply of 66kV CRP,
S A S , t r a i n i n g f o r C R P & S A S a n d
commissioning of our system at site.
Eight more packages are tendered by KPLC
and we are confident that ERL Mint will bag
more orders soon.
We congratulate the entire team for their
effort.
Making new inroads in Kenya with a 33/11kV Substation
ERL is rapidly making its presence felt in Kenya and
the successful commissioning of a 33kV/11kV
Substation with 15 bays in Nyeri, about 150 kms
from Nairobi, Kenya with multi-vendor products
and new Automation System from Sprecher,
Austria.
We are proud that this S/S set a pioneering trend
of many firsts in Kenya. We are the first company 4

ERL handles a challenging project in Ghana!
It has indeed been a sweet victory for ERL at Ghana.
Despite facing different hurdles, our team
successfully commissioned a 161/34.5kV
Substation in Kumasi, about 300 kms from Accra, a
Ghana SAS System (with IEC 61850 Protocol).
ERL engineers did their work efficiently and
completed the commissioning of the subject S/S.
The project had been awarded to KEC who in turn
offloaded the Protection and Automation part to ERL
Marketing International (ERL Mint). The result was
that to complete this project our engineers had to
rectify many problems in the Switchyard which was
beyond ERL's purview. We are proud that we went
that extra mile to keep our client happy.
Some of the key highlights are:
• Multi-vendor Product Integration with the
Automation system.
• Complete S/S controlled from the Remote Control
Center through ERL Gateway installed in the .S/S
• Midway into the commissioning, we were asked
to integrate two 34.5KV Capacitor Bank
protection into the SAS which was done at site,
in a record time of 2 days! (Including Engg.
& Integration).
We congratulate our team on their exemplary
work.
in Kenya to integrate Multi-vendor Protection
Products (ERL’s PRO relays, ABB relays, Sprecher
(Austria) BCU & Gateway into the new Sprecher
Automation system with IEC 61850 protocol.
We are also the first in Kenya to attempt and
successfully commission Dual Hot Standby
Redundant Gateway System. This hi-tech system
was successfully implemented by ERL Engineering
& Commissioning team .
The Contract for Engineering, Manufacturing and
Commissioning the SAS system with the protection
package was awarded to our ERL Marketing
International (ERL Mint) who in turn sub-contracted
ERL to Engineer, Manufacture and Commission.
The combined team work of tender ing,
engineering, manufacturing and T & C ensured the
smooth progress and completion.
We congratulate the team on their accomplishment.

Bonding over barbecue!
ERLPhase Winnipeg follows the rich autumn
tradition of sharing barbeque lunch. This
year, the gorgeous autumn weather inspired
everyone here to reconnect. Jeff helped with
the cooking and whipped up some really
delicious stuff. Everyone enjoyed the event
and camaraderie.
A boy met his friend walking down the street with a whole sack of burnt out light bulbs. He asked him what he was going to do
with all those useless bulbs. His friend replied, "I'm going to build a dark room".

Do You Know? How do computers keep track of date and time even when they are switched off?
Computers have electronic clocks very much like the modern watches we wear on our wrist. They
have small batteries that continue to run the clock when the power is off. Ordinary button batteries
we use in our watches would do, but small rechargeable batteries are also possible.
Even for computers, function needs energy
