Again this year we at ercol are delighted to be showing you new pieces and newpresentations, which we have created to enhance your enjoyment of our furniture.

We continue to work with designers, craftsmen, manufacturing and marketing to createand extend ercol furniture and bring it to the widest audience. ercol is 90 years old in2010. We will always have the same roots but it is our business to create new andvibrant furniture for the next decade.

I am the third generation of our family to have the privilege of being the guardian ofercol. I can assure you that ercol furniture will always befurniture made with passion and a commitment to the qualityof our furniture that has been developed over many years.

My grandfather and the company’s founder, Lucian Ercolani,was a designer and that ethos has always been the underlyingprinciple of ercol. Designs matched to quality and toinnovation of manufacturing to produce superbly well madefurniture suitable for today’s living. We have a highlyexperienced in-house design team but we also commissiondesigns from established designers, as well as up and comingyoung British design talent.

In 2002 we invested heavily in our commitment to manufacturing in Britain anddesigned and built ourselves an environmental award winning new factory of 160,000square feet in the heart of the Chilterns. We employ 150 people using modernmanufacturing technology combined with a craft inheritance to make furniture of thehighest quality for discerning owners. Our craftsmen draw the finest qualities out of thebeautiful solid timbers with which we work. Our furniture is predominately solid madefrom elm, beech, ash and oak.

ercol works equally enthusiastically with the craftsmen inour partners in manufacturing companies spread acrossthe world from Europe to the Far East. They all contributeto the depth and breadth of ercol furniture.

evergreenevergreen is a direct descendant of the windsorchairs of the Chiltern woodlands in Buckinghamshire.The steam bent and hand crafted shapes echocenturies of tradition of chair making skills. It wasoriginally designed in the 1950’s and has been inconstant production ever since. It is available indifferent wood finishes, even black, which gives it anincredibly contemporary feel.

windsor cabinets are archetypical ercol and have been in production in variousguises since the late 1950’s, created by ercol’s founder Lucian Ercolani, windsorcabinets have become design classics. Made using traditional craft techniques andmodern machining these cabinets have the beauty of displayed dovetail jointsand iconic oval wooden handles.

The windsor cabinets offer very flexible storage, many of the cabinets can be puttogether to create individual combinations to suit individual requirements.Storage that is not only good looking but will last for many years.

Digital changeover has now begun and we at ercol have developed a number of media units toaccommodate the increasing number of domestic electronic boxes. These pieces of furniture are madewith the same traditional craft methods as the rest of our cabinet ranges but are designed toaccommodate widescreen televisions and the accompanying equipment and cabling, whilst also

providing practical and captious storage for CD’s and DVD’s.

Our attractive artisan media units are designed to complement modern

living; these practical pieces have simple, clean lines and will hold all yourelectronics. Behind the closed doors of the cabinets is the clever ‘IR eye’infrared technology which allows the operation of media equipment inside withthe wooden doors closed. These cabinets are also available open with drawers

but without doors and IR eye.

ercol with up to the moment technology.They are made using the same traditionalmanufacturing techniques as the rest of thewindsor range and are available either asstandard media units or with ercol‘IR eye’ infrared technology.


Cabinets fitted with the ercol ‘IR eye’ have infrared technology that allows theuse of standard remote controls to operate the electronics inside the cabinetwith the wooden doors closed; doors that keep the electrical units andunsightly wiring hidden from view and free from dust. The individual remotecontrols that have been supplied with your media systems will operate yourmedia equipment through the wooden doors. The receiver in the cabinetoperates in the 20 to 70 KHz frequency range.

reCoverOur upholstered furniture is made with the same longlasting high quality standards as all the ercol range.These frames will give many years of pleasure but weknow that our customers will want to refresh the lookof their furniture and renew their covers. We offer a re-cover service, enabling you to buy genuine replacement ercol cushions foryour suite, extending its life and helping to conserve precious resources.

ercol work with solid wood, elm, beech, ash andoak. These are all hardwoods from temperateregions in North America and Europe where theforests are highly sustainable.

The great beauty and unique quality of solidtimber has always been in the infinite variety of itscolour and of its grain. The wood grain and thewood colour in every piece of ercol that you buywill have its own wonderful character that isunique to that piece. Each piece of furniture ismade in one of our specific timbers but you canpurchase many of our pieces in different finishes.The finishes available for each model are indicatedat the bottom of each page of the catalogue and are illustrated here. For example all our windsorcabinets are made in elm, but are available in 5 of our finishes, see example right.

To mark our 90 year anniversary, ercol is re-issuing the iconicOriginals Nest of Tables in two new styles. Designed in 1957 byercol founder Lucian Ercolani, the trio of tables retain a modernappeal and today is recognised worldwide as a mid-century design classic. One nest is created in acontemporary mix of rainbow hues; the other nestin a beautiful combination of American black walnutand beech finished with a clear matt lacquer which allows the beauty of the natural grain to shine through.
