The Murdoch Equity Scholarships have been developed to provide support to students who are facing financial and/or personal hardship, as a short term, interim solution. PERSONAL STATEMENT

Please attach a personal statement of no more than 300 words, outlining your exceptional personal and/or financial circumstances, the timing of events in relation to your study and the impact. Whilst there is no need to provide very personal details you will need to provide a clear outline of these circumstances. Some scholarships may require very specific personal statements; please be sure to check the website before applying.

While it is not compulsory, we recommend that you include additional documentation to support your application. These could include statements from doctors, counsellors, or employers. All items will remain private and confidential to the Student Financial Support Office. You may be asked to supply additional information if insufficient documentation is provided to allow a decision to be made. If you do not respond to such requests in the time specified, then your application will be considered incomplete and will not be considered.

This personal statement is given serious consideration by the scholarship panel.

Some scholarships require specific information from your referee, as such please ensure you check the criteria listed on the website prior to applying.

Murdoch University reserves the right to not award scholarships if there are no suitable applicants.The Student Financial Support Office receives many more applications each semester than there are scholarships to award, as such scholarships are awarded to the students who are most in need. Should your application be unsuccessful you will be notified via email.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

As a successful recipient of a Murdoch Equity Scholarship, I agree to the following terms and conditions and understand that it is my responsibility to adhere to the following conditions:

1. I must remain enrolled in a full-time academic program offered by Murdoch University for the full duration of my scholarship, unless granted approval to study part-time due to exceptional circumstances. For domestic students 9 points or more is considered full-time.

2. I must seek independent advice from the relevant authorities on the effect, if any, that the scholarship may have on my eligibility for income support; or any tax implications.

3. I must notify the Student Financial Support Office (SFSO) in writing immediately if I:a. Wish to transfer to another academic program within the University.b. Wish to study abroad on a Murdoch University affiliated placement.c. Seek a retrospective withdrawal from any units I have enrolled in.d. Choose to defer my studies and/or apply for Approved Leave.e. Change my enrolment from full-time to part-time.

4. I understand that I will forfeit the Scholarship if I:a. Terminate my enrolment.b. Transfer to another institution.c. Transfer from full-time to part-time study (unless I have been granted an exemption by the SFSO).d. Do not maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (see Academic Monitoring and Progression Policy 4.1.1)e. Fail to provide up to date contact and/or financial details to the SFSO when requested.

5. I agree and acknowledge that changes in my enrolment may make me ineligible to receive scholarship payments. In the case that I am deemed ineligible I may be placed on a breached status of six months without payment. This status would provide me with the opportunity to improve my grades or study part-time, to then be considered for payments in the following semester. This opportunity would occur only once for the duration of the scholarship, and is at the discretion of the SFSO and the donor.

6. I understand that continuing to receive payments that I am ineligible for will result in action taken by the university. In the case of receiving ineligible funds, I will be required to repay all ineligible payments to the SFSO within a 3 month period.

* CENTRELINK AUTHORISATION STATEMENT

I authorise Centrelink to confirm with Murdoch University the current status of my Commonwealth Benefit and other details as they pertain to my concessional entitlement. This involves electronically matching details I have provided to Murdoch University with Centrelink or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) records to confirm whether or not I am currently receiving a Centrelink or DVA benefit.

I also authorise Centrelink to electronically provide a statement to Murdoch University to assist with the assessment of my entitlement to services from Murdoch University. I understand that the information provided by Centrelink may include, where relevant, current or historical details of payments received, dependents, Centrelink deductions, income, assets, and confirmation of my current address.

I authorise Murdoch University to obtain personal information that is relevant to assessing my eligibility for an Equity Scholarship (this can include any information from Centrelink).
