In this exercise you should build the model as shown on the plot plan above. When you have finished it should look like the picture at right.The following pages show details of the equipment and some help to get started.

Select Create>Primitives choose a box - fill out the form as shown and OK.

Navigate to your training site eg.

/EP-COURSE..

First create a zonefor the MSC equipment eg.

/EP-COURSE..-EQU-MSC

Select Create>Equipment to create an EQUI which will represent the deckplate.

Use the syntax Q IDP @ WRT WORLD to query the position of the top of the box then use one of the positioning commands to position the box corectly eg.

Position>Move Distance and move the box up 25mm.

Then create and position the Drain drum - use the following worked example if you need help.

6. Type in the height & diameter; Orientation should be East; set representation to Detail w/obstruction

9. To see the dish switch the shading off. We could have positioned & orientated the dish during step 8 but the fastest way to do it is to use the intelligence in the model to connect the dish to the cylinder as shown in step 10

10. While standing at the dish select Connect>Primitive>ID Point; point at the dish & identify the ppoint; point at the cylinder & identify the ppoint. The s/ware will connect the dish to the cylinder & orientated correctly.

Building Tagged Equipment - Step by step example by building 43VD777 - creating the vessel body

1. Make sure that you're standing in the correct zone

2. Select Create>Equipment

3. Key in the equipment name and it's approximate position. Don't worry about getting the exact position - the equipment will be positioned when it's been modelled.

5. Next step is to start creating primitives. First model the vessel shell. Select Create>Primitives & choose a cylinder

8. To create the first dished end select Create>Primitives & choose a Dish

Fill in only the values shown

11. You can create the second dish in the same way but the fastest way is by syntax. Stand at the dish & type in:

NEW DISH COPY PREV CONNECT P2 TO IDP@

The s/ware will prompt "Identify design point" - identify the point at the other end of the cylinder.

TIP: Connect Points per primitive are shown in app. A

1. To build the first vessel support create a box with the dimensions shown below.

2. Because we did not give the box a position it's origin will be placed at the origin of the equipment as shown below.

3. Following steps show one way of positioning the box to the dimension shown on the drawing by using the model intelligence.

4. Stand at the box & select Position>Move>Through & set the form up as shown below:

Point at the cyli & identify the west ppoint. The origin of the box will move west through the ppoint.

5. Use the same command to move the top of the box down through the same ppoint.

Point at the cyli & identify the west ppoint. The P3 of the box will move down through theppoint.

6. To move the box east select Position>Move>Distance

The west support should then be correctly positioned.

7. Check that it is positioned correctly using the Graphics>Measure command.

8. Alternatively instead of steps 4-6 you could have done some calculations & used syntax to move the box in one command as below:

9. The east support can be made using the Create>Copy>Offset form as shown below:

1. To create the 10" nozzle select Create>Primitives choose a nozzle & follow the steps shown above. Notice that the face of the nozzle is placed at the equipment origin by default since we gave no Position in the Create Nozzle form.

2. To position the nozzle you can use the Position>Move>Through & Position>Move>Distance forms or you can calculate the face of nozzle position and then use syntax:

BY D800 W200 (this will position the nozzle in one command).

3. Check the position of the nozzle using the Graphics>Measure command.

4. Create the 20" nozzzle using the same procedure.

Building Tagged Equipment - Step by step example by building 43VD777 - setting the datum point

Step by step example

1. In KOGAS the PDMS equipment origin shall be at the same location as the datum shown on the vendor drawing.

2. You can graphically view the location of the origin by navigating to the EQUI and using the syntax MARK CE. To remove the tagging use syntax UNMARK ALL.

3. In this case the datum is at the end of the vessel shell so we can select Modify>Equipment Origin>ID Point to place the datum on the Point at the west end of the shell.

If the datum had not coincided with a Ppoint you could have used

Modify>Equipment Origin>Explicit to move the origin

If the datum had coincided with a corner of a box you could have used a KOG utility as below:

Start the Utilities Menu Bar by selecting Utilities>Equipment

Navigate to the box then on the Utilities Menu Bar select MODIFY>KE Modify Origin

System will prompt Identify box in the Status Form. Identify the box & the system will draw an arrow at each corner. Zoom in to the required arrow & identify it. The equipment origin will then be moved to the corner of the box.

SETTING THE MODEL STATUS

1. Navigate to the equipment. On the Equipment Utilities menu select MODIFY>KE Attributes

MODELLING THE COG

The Dry & Wet centre of gravity locations shall be shown on the vendor drawing. The locations have to be included in the PDMS model. Regular reports of the global dry & wet cog for tagged equipment are extracted from the model & transferred to KESYS. To model the cog's use the procedure below.

Step by step example

1. Navigate to the equipment. On the Equipment Utilities menu select EQUIPMENT>KE CofG Point

2. The software will create two named box elements - in this example

/43VD777/COG

/43VD777/WETCOG

The boxes will be created at the equipment origin.

3. Move the boxes to the correct location. To do this navigate to the box & try using Position>Explicitly (At)

4. Click on the Type option & choose PPoint then identify P0 on the cylinderand then Apply.

5. You could also have used one of the Position>Move commands or the syntax:

POS P0 AT IDP@

Building Tagged Equipment - Step by step example by building 43VD777 - Positioning

Step by step example

In this example the position & orientation of the equipment is specified on the Plot Plan & we have modelled the equipment in the correct orientation and it's datum is correct so it's now only necessary to position it.

1. Select Position>Explicitly (At) & key in the coordinates shown on the plot plan.

2. If the equipment disappears from the view use Limits>Drawlist on the PDMS 3D View menu bar

3. Check the postion of the equipment using Query>General form & choosing the Position option.

Alternatively you can use syntax:

Q POS IN WORLD

When you have finished the drain drum model the pumps shown on the next sheet and position them as shown on the plot plan.

MODEL THE ACCESS ROUTES

When you have modelled & positioned the drain drum & pumps model the access routes as shown on the plot plan.

First navigat e to the SITE and create a new ZONE eg:

/EP-KURSA-MACC

Remember to model the access routes as Obst volumes (so you'll need to use Graphics>Representation with Obst on the see them) and run the ACCESS>Update Footprints command when you've finished.

Note that the plot plan shows the access routes positioned with clearance to the equipment - use Position>Move>Clearance to position them,

MODEL THE ACCESS PLATFORMS & EQUIPMENT SUPPORTS

The access platforms & equipment supports should be modelled in the MSC zone.

First model the platform & ladder on the Drain Drum as shown on the first sheet. Try designing & positioning the platform on the top of the vessel by using a calculator as little as possible.

If you get time try modelling the platform & access stair shown on the first sheet.
