    The 15th

    EPSF Annual National Conference

    21st

    , 22nd

    and 23rd

    of October 2010

    Mansoura, Egypt

    Preparation:

    Before the Conference was organized, SAMPShigh board organized two meetings with EPSF

    executives to highlight the main points

    regarding the conference and to choose the

    topics precisely.

    Then SAMPS started to distribute the tasks andresponsibilities, basically to build a team that

    would collaborate effectively and represent it in

    the best picture.

    SAMPS board thoroughly chose the conferencespeakers and reserved the lecture halls.

    In addition they organized the accommodationfor students out of Mansoura in Dar El Deyafa

    (Guests House of Mansoura University).

    Organizing Association: Scientific Association of Mansoura Pharmacy Students (SAMPS).

    Background:

    Following the tradition every year, the 15th

    Annual National Conference (ANC) united pharmacy student all over

    Egypt to share their thoughts and dreams about the future. It was an opportunity to cultivate self-awareness andmagnify our strength as future pharmacists.

    So from here questions started to arouse?

    Did you get the chance to stop and think, who are we to Humanity?

    Fully aware of our crucial role as Pharmacists, our duty to put an end and reject. Stand up to Smoking dependence

    and its strong correlation to Lung Cancer. The 15th

    EPSF ANC grants us the chance to make a difference with its

    main theme, to fight smoking and Physical Dependence.

    Breaking the ice from the scientific content, we also focused on professionally developing ourselves throughout

    various soft skills which we always need to nourish ourselves with.

    Funding the Conference:

    SAMPS board finalized their finical report including Accommodation, lunch, transportation, coffee breaksand social program.

    At the end the expected total expenses was very near to the actual expenses and this shows that theconference was successful.

    Number of participants:140 Students from all the Associations.

    Number of organizers:40 Students from Mansoura Faculty of Pharmacy.

    Conference Main Hall:Prof. Dr. Magdy Abo Rayan Hall, Mansoura Faculty of Engineering.

    The Conference Program

    Day One: 21 October 2010

    Session One: (CV writing and Interviewing Errors)

    We learned how to create a professional CV and how to leave anImpact during the interview process, because the future favors the

    prepared mind and taking such step can really make a difference.

    Interviewers see hundreds of CV a day so mastering how to avoidpitfalls was a crucial issue we discussed throughout the session.

    Moreover, we were enlightened how to handle the toughestquestions during an interview.

    Session Two:(Lung Cancer and Chemotherapy) By Prof. Dr. Sameh

    Shamaa

    We Briefly Discussed the risk factors and took an Overview on thepathology, how cells become cancerous, and what carcinogens are

    and how death can be inevitable

    The session also contained the most hidden and prevalentsymptoms and the relation of cancer stage to death prognosis.

    We learned how to apply the Right Treatment for the Right Case aswe understood the correlation between each stage and type of

    cancer chemotherapy.

    Going Deeper, participants listened attentively to the new strategies applied, such as VEGF-directed therapy, to targetthe Lung cancer Enemy.

    Not only is our goal as pharmacist to provide cancer chemotherapy treatment, but also to monitor the patient and

    provide him palliative care as we are all aware of treatment side effects. We learned how to manage the patients pain,

    cough, fatigue and Depression.

    Optional Sessions:

    They were given as a reward for the participants who attended the conference.(Personality types and Behavior

    styles), both were presented by Dr. Ahmad Tharwat, Training Manager at AMID East.

    After the sessions, we all shared a delightful dinner before heading to the Presidential, Public Health andProfessional Development workshops.

    Presidential / Public Health / Professional Development workshops:As usual, EPSF organize these three workshops to discuss the general system, future plans, problems and how to face

    it and suggestions to improve the EPSF work together with the member Association's representatives. These

    workshops take place before every General Assembly.

    Day Two: 22 October 2010

    Session Three: (Smoking and Physical Dependence) By Prof. Dr. Mahmoud YoussefWe understood how much hazardous ingredients a cigarette may contain.We also understood the concept of passive Smoking and that Non- Smokers can be Cancer Victims too. It's a

    proven fact.We examined how Smoking can affect the Quality of life. Cigarette Smokers become Nicotine Dictators, it causes early menopause, mouth lesions, wrinkles, bad

    breath, stained teeth and affects you finically.

    We understood how Smoking is linked with poor reproductive health in both men and women.We proved that low tar and nicotine cigarettes do not have a benefit effect on health however the typically cause

    the same hazardous effects.

    AND GAVE A MOMENT TO THINK AFTER ALL THIS HOW COULD PEOPLE SMOKE!!

    Session Four: (Narcotics and Drug Abuse) By Prof. Dr. Ahmad Dobeaa

    As pharmacists we deal with drugs we must understand that these drugs can be abused. We learned through this

    session the hazard effects of abusing CNS drugs and that it's our role as pharmacists to spread awareness and stop

    these evil habits.

    After the session, we went to have our Lunch at El Baik Restaurant.

    General Assembly (I)

    The 21st

    General Assembly Agenda was provided and followed. Elections for

    the Continuous Education, Student Exchange, and Media and Publications

    positions took place.

    Social Program:All participants together with EPSF Executives had a Social

    party in a Nile cruse right after GA (I), in this party we shared our feelings

    together spreading EPSF spirit.

    Day Three: 23 October 2010

    Both in parallel GA II and the National Clinical Skills Event (CSE) took Place.

    The National Clinical Skills Event took place for all the Associations to get a

    broader overview about the competition, in order to apply it locally.

    General Assembly (II)

    The 21st GA continued, three new Associations joined EPSF asfollowing:

    1) Ahram Canadian University represented in CUPSSA

    2) 10th

    of Ramadan University represented in EPSF-EAU

    3) Cairo University represented in EPSF-Cairo

    So by this EPSF members completed 21 Associations in 21 different

    Universities.

    Each Executive Board member from EPSF discussed his workthroughout the previous period, each Local Association representative

    presented their work through the previous periods, future plans and

    projects were approved and the appointed coordinators were

    announced.

    Important results we got after the conference:

    Spreading awareness and putting an end to Smoking.Understanding the most killing disease LUNG CANCER and raising hopes that there will always be a solution if

    we put an end. (WHEN YOU HAVE THE WILL WE FIND THE WAY)

    Enhancing teamwork throughout organizing one of the biggest events throughout the year.Uniting Pharmacy Students and bringing them together, fostering interaction between them and planting the

    EPSF Spirit.
