E-portfolios are not open web sites, but are only visible to users you want to have access to them. E-portfolios can be shared with users inside and outside of the Blackboard system. An overview to ePortfolio

The ePortfolio tool in Blackboard enables faculty and students to easily create web sites that can be used for module assessment and personal develop planning activities.

Documents and files such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, web pages, images, web links etc. can be added and presented within an ePortfolio.

The ePortfolio tool contains and easy to use web page editor so you can create web pages within Blackboard and add them to your ePortfolio.

Any number of ePortfolio can be created and use any combination of files and documents added to the Content System.

E-portfolios are not open web sites, but are only visible to users you want to have access to them.

E-portfolios can be shared with users inside and outside of the Blackboard system.

Comments and feedback can be added to an ePortfolio.

Completed ePortfolio can be downloaded out of the Blackboard system. An e-portfolio is constructed in 2 stages:

1. First documents, files, folders and web links are collected within Blackboard Content System. 2. Then an ePortfolio is created from content collected in the Content System.

Adding content to use in an ePortfolio

Electronic documents, files, folders and web links can be saved into Blackboard Content System. Each user in the system gets an area called ‘My Content.’

1. To access this facility, login to Blackboard and click on the Content tab from the top left of the Blackboard screen:.

The My Content area will open automatically when you access the Content tab:

2. To add a single document, click on the Upload File button. The Add File page will then appear.

3. Click on the Browse button and locate your document on your computer.

4. Select the file you want to add onto the Content Area. The added file can be used in your ePortfolio pages.

5. Click on the Submit button. 6. Repeat the steps 2 to 5, as needed.

BLACKBOARD SUPPORT Adding folders to use in an ePortfolio

You can also add folders to your Content Collection so you can organize and structure your documents and files.

1. Click on the Create Folder button. This will open the Add Folder page.

2. Add the Folder Name and then Scroll down the page and click on the Submit button. This will return you to the Content Collection page.

3. To add documents, files and links to the folder, click on the Folder Title. This will open the Content page for the folder. Items can be added to the folder.

4. To return to your Content, click on My Content icon on the navigation bar.

Removing content from your Content Collection.

1. Select the item, link or folder you want to remove. And then click on the Remove button.

Create an ePortfolio

1. Login to Blackboard and click on the Content tab. This will open the Content and e-portfolio system in Blackboard.

2. Then click on the Portfolio Creation button. This will open the Portfolio creation wizard in a new browser window.

3. Type the title and description of your portfolio.

4. Select the menu style and then click on Submit.

Adding content to an ePortfolio

1. From the My Portfolios section of the Content System, to add a content to an ePortfolio, check on the check box right next to the appropriate e-portfolio title. Then click the Action Link and select Build.

To add content to an e-portfolio, click one of three types of content that can be added to the portfolio– Content, Link and Item.

2. Click on the Content icon. This will open the Add Content page.

3. Give the content a Menu Item Name – this will be that title of the link that appears on the e-portfolio. Then click on the Browser button. This will open the content collection (your personal My Content area) in a new browser window. Navigate to the My Content section to find content you want to add to your e-portfolio.

4. On the Metadata for File window, do not check on the check boxes but click on Submit.

5. Make sure that the availability sets as Yes.

6. Click on Submit.

Adding a web link to your ePortfolio

1. To add a web link click on the Link button:

This will open the Add link page. Enter a Menu Item Name and type in the URL of the web site you want to link to.

2. To make the web link available straight away, click on the Yes.

3. Then click on the Submit button.

Adding an Item to an ePortfolio

1. To Click on the Create Item button:

This will open the Add Item page:

A template is simply a pre-structured web page that you can access, add detail to or change.

2. Click on the dropdown menu and select the template you would like to add.

3. Type a Menu Item Name and then enter or change any text that you want to the page.

4. Scroll down the page and click on the Yes radio button if you want the item immediately available in the e-

portfolio.

5. Click on the Submit button.

Editing the Properties of an ePortfolio

1. From the My Portfolios page, click on the Action link next to the e-Portfolio title you want to edit.

This will open the Properties page.

2. This enables you to change the e-portfolio title, description and color scheme. You can modify whether the e-

portfolio can be shared with other users and whether they can use the comment tool to give you feedback: 3. Click on the Submit button to save any changes you want to make.

Sharing an ePortfolio

1. Select the Share option.

2. This enables you to share an e-portfolio with people both inside and outside of Blackboard. The software will

send an email with a URL and additional password protection if you wish, by this method. Your e-portfolio can

also be sent as a copy to specific modules in Blackboard or all courses in Blackboard.

Share with Users enables your e-portfolio to be shared with individual users within Blackboard.

You will need to type the username. If you are not sure, you can click on Browse button for look up usernames.

Share with External Users enables your e-portfolio to be shared with people not enrolled into the Blackboard (Blackboard) system.

You will need to type the person’s email address. The person will get the URL for viewing your Portfolio.

Share with Courses enables your e-portfolio to be shared with all users enrolled onto a specific Blackboard course. You can share your e-portfolio with any course (module) in Blackboard not just those you are enrolled onto as a student.
