Environmental Recycling Technologies plc

Introduction

• Environmental Recycling Technologies plc (ERT) is a plastics recycling technology

company

• ERT owns the worldwide intellectual property rights for the Powder Impression

Moulding (PIM) Process. PIM converts mixed plastics waste into finished products

with value

• ERT licences the right to manufacture defined products made using the PIM process

within a given territory to licensees

• ERT is a UK plc and its shares are traded on the AIM Market of the London Stock

Exchange (Ticker: ENRT)

Global waste plastics

Around the world there are millions of tonnes of unsorted

mixed plastics that are being sent to landfill or waste to

energy plants. Current and future legislation to improve

resource efficiency and reduce carbon emissions will

force this valuable resource to be better utilised.

The PIM process can utilise unsorted mixed plastics

without the requirement to resort to expensive polymer

cleaning and segregation processes, which themselves

produce large volumes of mixed

plastics which are currently

uneconomic to

sort further.

PIM Process and advantages

The PIM process

1. Co-mingled plastic waste is collected

2. Mixed plastic is turned into fine granules

3. PIM turns raw granules into reusable material

4. Material produced is then used as filler between

two skins

5. Highly usable products are made at a profit to

the producer

6. These valuable products can themselves be

recycled

PIM’s uniqueness is its ability to use mixed

plastic waste streams, which cannot viably be

recycled by other means. The alternative is

landfill, incineration or export

Product Manufacturing

• The PIM process can utilise un-sorted, mixed plastic waste which cannot be used in conventional plastic processes

• The PIM process facilitates the use of low cost raw materials in added value products, providing the opportunity for

highly profitable manufacture

• The products made using the PIM process can themselves be recycled

Markets and products for PIM

Licensing PIM

Licensing terms

• Exclusive or non-exclusive

• Licence for defined product: barge

covers, shower trays, flat sheet etc

• Licence for sales territory: USA,

Europe, UK etc

• Licensees can trademark brands, e.g.

Eco-dec ®

Current market patents

• Patents protected in 30 countries

• Patents in North America, South

America, Asia, Europe and Australasia

Licensee case study: Brownwater Plastics

• Brownwater Plastics, an affiliate of

James Marine Inc, holds an

exclusive license from ERT to

manufacture and sell barge covers

and other marine products in the

U.S.

• Currently manufacturing and

selling barge covers that measure

200ft² - possibly the world’s largest

thermoplastic moulding

• A superior product to existing fibre

glass barge covers

Licensee case study: Contour Showers

• Contour Showers holds an exclusive

European licence to manufacture its design

of Eco-dec® shower tray

• Eco-dec® is an innovative wet-room floor

system that replaces a GRP product and is

made with over 90% recycled plastics

• Eco-dec® shower wet room formers are

100% recyclable and quicker and easier to

install than traditional screeded methods

• Eco-dec® is trademarked

Case study: Flat sheet substitute

• PIM produced sheet can been used

as a substitute for flat sheet plywood

• The flat sheet product can be engineered to

perform as an alternative to imported

plywood, or to virgin plastic panels, yet in

turn are fully recyclable at their end-

of- life thereby offering a complete

closed- loop solution

• The natural characteristics of polymer

are utilised to manufacture hard

wearing, smooth-faced, versatile boards

suitable for a variety of applications in

construction, agriculture and beyond

Our partners

Arup: one of the largest and most

successful international engineering

consultancies works with ERT to identify

commercial opportunities for the

development of products using the PIM

process from recycled plastic in the

construction and engineering sectors.

Axion Polymers: who operate one of the

most advanced plastics recycling facilities

in Europe produce bespoke recipes of

blended recycled plastic material for use

by ERT’s licensees.

This enables our licensees to focus on

manufacturing PIM products by ensuring

the consistent supply of quality-assured

recycled plastic material.

Conclusion

PIM is a unique patented process that recycles mixed plastics from waste

Market drivers are tightening recycling legislation, with a growing demand for

resource efficient, low carbon manufacturing of sustainable products

ERT is looking to increase the number of licensees in existing and new

international markets
