You’ve just been to Wal-Mart. Rather than throw away your bag, you decide to reuse it.

Brainstorm a list of ways to reuse the bag.

Pollution

What do you think of when you think of pollution? Which type of pollution do you think is worse?

Types of Pollution

Solid Wastes – (trash/ think of a landfill)

Chemicals – CFC’s and PCB’s (chlorofluorocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyl)

Radioactive Wastes (Nuclear power plants)

Gases – (Carbon Dioxide)

Solid Wastes

Hazardous Wastes

Waste that can catch fire, wear through metal, explode or make

people sick

Chemicals – CFC’s and PCB’s

CFC – destroys the ozone

used in aerosols, refrigerators, and plastics.

(today, the use of CFC’s are banned but are still found in the atmosphere).

PCB’s – are poisonous. Used in paints and

appliances. Cause cancer. Banned but are still

found in even the most remote areas on Earth.

Human Population Growth(Overpopulation)

The human population exhibits exponential growth.

As more people move around, more natural resourced are needed.

Eventually, the resources may become depleted and pollution level may rise.

biodiversity

Deforestation, point-source (marine habitat), non-point sources (water pollution)

Your Community Due the next day. Draw a picture of what your

commmunity might look like in the year 2100 if pollution and habitat destruction continue at a rapid rate.

Draw a picture on the other side showing what it looks like if the environmental problems are prevented
