Traditional Drainage System

• Problem• 100% Runoff• Storm water

contamination• All water lost• Heat island

effect (Global Warming)

Page 8: Environmental Neutral Design

Atlantis SolutionDevelopers transform wasted land reserved for a drainage basin into additional housing lots.

• Solution• 0% Runoff• Storm water

purification• All water

stored or infiltrated

• Reduced Heat island effect

Water FootprintHow much do we consume? How much do we drink? Why does a 100% of the water supply have to be drinking

quality if we only drink ≈ 1%.Is this expensive? How much do we reuse? How much is run-off?How much is lost? Can we improve efficiency?

Who uses the dams? What happens to the water before it gets to the dam?Isn’t there a bit too much loss to evaporation? What about the environmental impact of flooding vast

areas? What happens if it doesn’t rain?

Revolutionary new system to capture, filter and reuse stormwater runoff from roads.

Convert stormwater pollution into an asset

Water passes through a layer of EcoSoil which removes hydrocarbons heavy metals and other stormwater contaminants

Over 6.1km of infiltration channels or soakaways have been installed beside roads and pathways, providing over 4 million litres of storage.

The channel system is constructed of thousands of Atlantis Matrix- Double Modules wrapped in geotextile, placed in the channel two modules wide.

Water Neutral Parking LotMega storm water tank under a permeable parking lot in Virginia USA.

The job was a major shopping center expansion which called for approximately 9.6 ML of underground detention, equivalent to the volume of 4 Olympic swimming pools.

Railways – Case StudiesAuburn Rail, NSW, AUSTRALIA

The Auburn Maintenance Facility was undertaken in partnership with Reliance Rail, John Holland and consulting engineers Kellogg Brown Root (KBR). The task was to collect 11 million litres of water from storm events over a 300,000m2 area for discharge to a local waterway.
