Light & Energy consumption
in France
Only few regulations about lighting
thermal regulations, lighting has long been forgotten in
the regulations relatives to energy consumption
But the role of lighting in the energy consumption is
becomming more and more important
Therefore it is now taken into account in the Thermal
Regulation called RT 2012
Moreover, as a european country France must comply
with the european laws, and the EuP Directive which
ban inefficient light sources little by little

The quality of light
Law for workspaces, 1983
Every workspace has to have daylight
Minimum required illuminance (in lux) are specified by activity
But the levels required are not very demanding
Law for disabled people, 2007
Concerns every kind of public building (shops, train stations, museums, etc.)
Very demanding (illuminance levels, glare, etc.)
