English (Ms. Kayleigh Robinson and Ms. Madelaine Reeve)

In the first half of term, we will be looking at story writing. We will be focusing on the many

different parts that build up a story in detail to ensure we are able to write our own story at the

end of the unit. We will be learning about different parts of language, how to set the scene, how to

describe a setting, how to describe characters, how to use dialogue, how to sequence events and

finally how to make improvements to our own plans.

In the second half term we will be exploring our class text, ‘The Egyptian CInderella’ linked to our

Humanities topic. Using this we will be exploring recounts and their features, allowing us to write

in role as a character. We will also be having guided reading sessions during both halves of the

term covering reading comprehension, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Mathematics (Ms. Kayleigh Robinson and Ms. Madelaine Reeve)

In the first half of term, the students will study place value, partitioning, counting on with 1, 10 and

100, doubling and halving and sorting multiples of 2, 5 and 10. We will also revise and explore a

range of strategies when adding several small numbers, finding number pairs for 10s and doubles,

and for family triangles for multiplication and division. We will also explore geometry, with a focus

on 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.

In the second half term, our focus will shift to measure and problem solving. Will will explore

money, looking at its value and how to give change. We will also look at time, revising days of the

week and months of the year before moving on to look at specific time using both digital and

analogue clocks. We will lastly look at measures to consolidate our knowledge for use in a practical

way.

Science (Ms. Kayleigh Robinson and Ms. Madelaine Reeve)

We are beginning our Science learning by exploring the topic Plants. We will develop our understanding of what a plant needs for life and growth and test this through experiments. We will further identify a plant's structure and functions whilst learning key terminology. In the second half of term we will be focusing on looking after ourselves. We will look at different food groups and begin to understand how we can promote a healthy diet. We will be learning about our teeth and how to take good care of them. To end our unit we will be writing a set of instructions about how to make a healthy meal.

Humanities (Ms. Kayleigh Robinson and Ms. Madelaine Reeve)

Our first Humanities topic of the year is Ancient Egypt, where we will investigate the men and women who studied the kingdoms and explore their discoveries. Students will look at some of the Pharaohs and the development of the pyramids, as well as the mythology that surrounded this early civilisation. We will learn about the role the Nile had in allowing this civilisation to flourish and examine daily life, comparing it to our own. In the second half of the term we will be focusing on why people go on holidays. We will master

our map skills using atlases to identify continents and countries, whilst allowing us to identify

climate. To conclude this unit we will be conducting our own research and creating informative

travel brochures.

Mandarin Advanced (Ms Heng Yue Shi)

For the first half term, students will study topics that include: clothes, food and in the school. In

the second half term, they will study occupation and weather. The vocabulary of the students will

be increased and improved through flash card games and a weekly spelling test. After completing

this unit, students should be able to talk about different topics, such as, food they prefer, what to

do in the school and being able study Chinese vocabulary and grammar independently. In addition,

students will be able to read the words according to HanYuPinYin. This term we also encourage

students to read more Chinese story books at home. At the end of the term, students will be able

to write simple sentences and informal notes.

Mandarin Intermediate (Ms Sim Jia Xin)

In the first half term, students will learn about family members and school subjects. They will learn the way to introduce their family members in their speaking lesson. They will also practice on writing and recognise the words by using flash cards. In the second half term, students will learn about nationality, food and hobbies. They will learn about different nationalities and people. In addition, they will be introduced to different countries and different food. They will learn to tell their hobbies. Finally, they will revise and do exercises on HanYuPinYin (Chinese phonetics), to help them improve their pronunciation.

Mandarin Extra (Ms Sim Jia Xin)

In the first half term, students will learn about family members and school subjects. They will learn the way to introduce their family members in Mandarin. They will also learn to recognize at least 40 words. In the second half term, students will learn about nationality, food and hobbies. They will learn about different countries and nationalities. In addition, they will be introduced to different countries and introduce themselves where they are from. Finally, they will practice writing Chinese characters and do exercises on HanYuPinYin (Chinese phonetics), to help them with better pronunciations.

Bahasa Malaysia (Ms. Sathiawathi Sinna Thamby and Ms Shantiletcumi Sellapa)

During this term students will be exposed to the topic of personal and family relationships. The

lessons will be monitored closely by teachers with the aim of getting the students to speak and

write more coherently, using grammar and vocabulary with more fluency. We as teachers also look

forward to teaching students to construct more extended and descriptive sentences to convey

their ideas fully.

The key activities planned for the year 3 students are; mind mapping (it helps students to generate ideas), classroom discussions to encourage our students to improve their interpersonal skills, group and pair work, and peer assessment exercises. At the end of the term, students will be able to use the academic language pertaining to the topic.

EAL (Ms. Nurin Najmina)

This term, we will be focusing on the topic ‘The world around us’, ‘Travelling, texting and phoning’ and ‘Which one is different?’. The students are going to learn how to differentiate between ‘g’ an ‘j’, use ‘this’ and ‘these’ in writing, write about their favourite holiday activities, interview one another and answer reading comprehension questions. Through role-plays, games and presentations, students will brush up their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Weekly spelling tests will also be carried out so that the students can practise new vocabularies and use them in writing sentences and also speaking.

Sejarah (Ms. Sathiawathi Sinna Thamby)

This subject requires students to learn about the variety of food and culture that we have in

Malaysia. This term will offer exciting lessons for students to participate actively in class and share

the diversity of multicultural cuisine and culture that Malaysia is rich in.

Students will be guided to present their ideas effectively and confidently through class

presentations and displays to their classmates. Apart from that, they will also improve their

interpersonal communication skills.

Music (Mr. Izwary Johari)

This term students will be learning to use their voices expressively and creatively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhyme. Students will also be playing and performing in solo and ensemble contexts, using their voices and playing musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression. Students will be developing their aural skill by listening with attention to detail and recall sounds with increasing aural memory. Students will be participating in a range of rhythmic activities to develop their inner pulse. Students will be preparing for an end of term production; they will be able to respond creatively to the music of the primary production and will then take part in learning a fun and creative routine.

Drama (Ms. Sharmila Kana)

Students will participate in a range of creative activities to develop imagination, expression,

empathy, confidence and communication. Students will delve into the deeper aspects of

role-playing and character development, with an emphasis on line memorization and variety. They

will discover creative ways of memorizing and delivering lines, and although they will not have an

end of year production to showcase their skills, they will have evidenced how to execute a role in

such a production. They will also participate in activities designed to introduce them to the wider

world of drama, and how it relates to their other taught subjects and experiences in their lives

outside the classroom.

ICT (Mrs Haniza Hussin)

During this term, students will learn how to make pages look interesting in word processing

programmes. They also will practice making pictures with patterns using Paint software, which

includes: copying, cutting, pasting, making pictures with dots, flipping, rotating and saving the

work. In addition, they will improve their searching skills and learn more about Search Engines. In

E-Safety, students will explore reasons why people use passwords, learn the benefits of using

passwords, and discover strategies for creating and keeping strong, secure passwords.

Art and Design (Ms. Kayleigh Robinson and Ms. Madelaine Reeve)

During the first half term we will get the chance to explore the portraits and self-portraits of a

variety of artists by thinking about what the artist is trying to convey about the subject, as well as

the techniques that have been used. They will also create self-portraits using a variety of different

techniques and media.

The second half of term will begin to explore the Pop Art movement, investigating a variety of works by key artists. We will reproduce work in the style of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Oldenburg.

Physical Education (Mr. Vinod Khanna, Mr. Jack Beattie, Mr. Dennis Lee, Ms. Emily Tan)

During this term, students will complete a range of running, core and strength training activities for cooperation games/chasing and fleeing games. As their technique improves, students will also benefit from developing components of fitness including speed, endurance and power. These activities will help improve their hand-eye coordination, develop motor skills and spatial awareness.

(COVID S.O.P) Unfortunately due to the Covid SOP we will have to do the modified range of activities inside the classroom with proper distance and a safe environment.

PSHE/Moral Studies (Ms. Kayleigh Robinson and Ms. Madelaine Reeve)

In PSHE this half term, our theme is ‘Respecting Self, Place & Others.’ In this we will think about taking responsibility for ourselves. We will learn ways to look after ourselves, other people and animals. We will also consider how our actions can affect others. In the second half of the term we will be studying ‘Keeping Healthy’ to fit in with our science topic. We will think about what makes a healthy lifestyle, including the benefits of exercise and healthy eating, and how to make informed choices. We will learn about bacteria and germs and the simple, safe routines which can reduce their spread.

Islamic Studies {for Islamic Students only} (Mrs Haniza Hussin)

During this term, students will learn the part of Pillar of Islam and Iman which includes Shahada

(Faith, sincerely reciting the Muslim profession of faith), and belief in God (Allah). Students will be

introduced to the Angel (Malaikat), named Jibril and Mikhail and their responsibility.
