What is Bottlenose?What is Bottlenose?

Bottlenose provides two big apps:

A Public Social Discovery Portal that shows you what’s happening NOW around any topic or person being discussed in social networks. You do not have to be a member to use this. Just go to Bottlenose.com and search or click a trend.

A Personalized Social Listening Dashboard for tracking all your news, social networks and interests in one place. It gives you a personalized start page called “Your World” that shows you what’s trending in your social networks, among people you follow and trust. It also lets you track and analyze streams of messages and news for any interest (for people, lists, topics, saved searches, groups, etc.).

These two apps are linked together. If you don’t register you can only use the Portal. If you register you also get the Dashboard. The benefit of having the Dashboard is that you can save searches and interests from the Portal, and get much more powerful customization and monitoring features.

How does Bottlenose work?Link your Social Accounts to Bottlenose

You basically connect your social feeds to Bottlenose and all of them are linked into the dashboard. Post that you can view and aggregate all your streams at one place. There are other features that we can utilize as well besides just aggreagating.

That includes, sharing, creating interesting form of content and overall interacting.

How does Bottlenose work?Network trends within your added streams

Once you have added streams, and you set the accounts up. It’ll search for your networks for trending activities, people, hashtags, links etc..

How does Bottlenose work?News Stream from your FB Profile This is how your

newsfeed from your FB profile looks like. You can sort your feed from Time, Popularity or Importance.

In the free version of Bottlenose, there is a limited amount of storage (a few thousand messages, on a running basis). Newer messages take priority over older messages; as new messages come in they push out older messages from your local storage.

Page 7: Engaging your community via Bottlenose

How does Bottlenose work?News Stream from your FB PAGE It also has a feature

where you can add your FB pages, monitor, post, look for trends, posts etc from your FB page directly in the aggregator.

Page 8: Engaging your community via Bottlenose

How does Bottlenose work?Twitter Stream Same applies to the

Twitter stream. Just like Hootsuite / Tweetdeck we can view the stream and prioritize accordingly.

Page 9: Engaging your community via Bottlenose

How does Bottlenose work?Trends within your network / added streams

This is how you can filter trends within your networks based on trending and recency. This again filters recent comments, people etc.

Page 10: Engaging your community via Bottlenose

How does Bottlenose work?Share your trending news / feed with others in your network You can also chose to

share any of the relevant articles within your trending newsfeed to your followers and your network.

Page 11: Engaging your community via Bottlenose

How does Bottlenose work?Trending People You can also look for

trending people. People who are active and are being interacted with and based on activity.

This shows people who are being mentioned or posting a lot in the stream. This is a good way to see who is important or influential around a topic in real-time. Note that if you want to see more trending people, it’s best to de-select the other layers.

How does Bottlenose work?Generate News of your curated links directly

Bottlenose lets you view an instant real-time newspaper for any stream. Just click the Paper tab.

It may take a minute to generate your newspaper because Bottlenose has to analyze the stream, figure out what’s most popular, and fetch related previews and content.

The resulting newspaper shows you a prioritized view of the top content in the stream.

How does Bottlenose work? Sonar Feature within Bottlenose to curate trends

Sonar shows you what’s going on in any stream of messages, at-a-glance, so you don’t have to read or skim everything yourself.

Sonar is particularly useful for large streams and fast-moving streams, or searches, where it would be difficult to understand the trends or find the things that interest you manually. It’s also great for catching up with the trends in a stream you haven’t looked at in a while.

When Sonar opens it visualizes the trending topics in the stream.

The larger a topic, the more active it is.

Click on a topic in Sonar and Sonar zooms into it to show you just the messages in the currently selected stream that relate to that topic. Clicking on Sonar nodes lets you “drill in” within a stream to sub-sets of messages in that stream for a topic.

Click the Explore button under a Sonar node finds everything about that topic (not just a subset of messages in the selected stream). It takes you to a new stream for a search query for that topic. In other words, the Explore button lets you “surf” from one stream to another stream about a different topic.

How is this tool helpful?• Extremely useful for one stop aggregation of various social networks a brand has.• Also useful in curating interesting trends, news and content within our networks.• Useful to interact with Social Influencers and trending people basis.• Very good to identify top trends / searches and bifurcate on the basis of tools like Sonar. • Good aggregation can be done of top stories (relevant ones) to share with the Paper option. • If you work with a team to manage social media for your organization or for clients, you may want to collaborate on that process by giving several people access to the same accounts.• Multiple people on your team can login to the same Bottlenose account, if you create an account and share the credentials with everyone.• If you want to filter out particular content from a stream, select the stream, and then click the little “gear” icon next to the stream name in the left column to open the Stream Settings popup. In this popup you can edit the rule for the stream.• You can also use the AND and OR operators to do Boolean search in the Twitter search field as well.• You can set a stream to notify you with a desktop notification when something happens. (Very useful feature) .• Bottlenose provides intelligent assistants that help you automate various tasks such as filtering for certain kinds of content, or even taking actions when conditions are met (only some actions are enabled in the free version; more will be enabled in the upcoming Pro version).• It’s easy to move streams around in folders. Just drag them with your mouse.Currently you can only move streams within the folder they are in, not between folders. We’ll be adding more folder related features in the future.• Within any message in Bottlenose you will notice a little “+” icon. If you click on this, a menu appears showing various things detected in the message that you can follow as streams (detected topics and people).
