WHAT DO WE KNOW?

• SINCE JANUARY 2009, THE CSEW HAS ASKED CHILDREN AGED 10 TO 15 WHO ARE RESIDENT IN HOUSEHOLDS IN ENGLAND AND WALES ABOUT THEIR

EXPERIENCE OF CRIME IN THE PREVIOUS 12 MONTHS.

• FINDINGS FROM THE CHILDREN’S SURVEY SHOULD BE INTERPRETED WITH GREATER CARE THAN FOR THE ADULT SURVEY DATA AS THE NUMBER OF CHILD INTERVIEWS THAT TAKE PLACE IN ANY YEAR (AROUND 3,000) IS MUCH SMALLER

THAN THE MAIN SURVEY (APPROXIMATELY 35,000)…

WHAT DO WE KNOW?• BASED ON CSEW DATA IN THE YEAR ENDING JULY 2015: AN ESTIMATED 8,350

CRIMES WERE EXPERIENCED BY CHILDREN AGED 10 TO 15 IN DERBYSHIRE, 6% OF ALL CRIMES IN DERBYSHIRE.

• IN THE YEAR ENDING MARCH 2015, THE SURVEY ESTIMATED 12% OF CHILDREN AGED 10 TO 15 WERE VICTIMS OF CRIME. THIS IS THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR

IN WHICH THE SURVEY HAS SHOWN THAT 12% OF CHILDREN AGED 10 TO 15 WERE VICTIMS OF CRIME.

• DATA FOR THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS, THE REQUIREMENT OF THIS SPECIFICATION, IS NOT MEASURED. IN ADDITION THE NUMBERS OF YOUNG PEOPLE THAT WOULD WANT TO ACCESS THE SERVICE IS NOT PREDICTABLE.
