Plagiarism is the use or close imitation of the language and

thoughts of another author without proper citation.

Why should you NEVER plagiarize?

If you did not conduct the research and/or develop the theories, it is only fair to give

credit to the person(s) who took the time to research, write and publish the work you are using.

ACADEMIC POLICY

It is against academic policy to plagiarize. Thus, students who are caught plagiarizing will be subject to disciplinary action, which may include a failing

grade, suspension or expulsion.

HOW DO YOU AVOID PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism• Put quotation marks around words directly taken from

published sources OR

Put the information taken from a published material in your own words (paraphrasing)

• Always use citation when quoting from or paraphrasing from published sources

IN TEXT CITATION

Brief citations that are placed within the text of your paper, which point

out where specific thoughts, research, ideas, theories and quotes are

taken from.

REFERENCE LIST

Placed at the end of your paper, the

reference list shows which exact resources were used to develop

your paper.
