Many have stated that it is impossible to know whether or not we are living in the last days

before the second coming of Jesus Christ. However, below you will find dramatic proof that

these are the endtimes. The proofs below defy coincidence.

Euphrates River to Be Dried Up In Revelation 16:12, the Bible predicts that the Euphrates River will be dried up to prepare the way for the kings of the east to invade Israel. This will happen at the time of the battle of  Armageddon according to verse 16 of the same chapter. The battle of Armageddon will be the final battle at which time Jesus will return and fight on the side of the nation of Israel. Immediately thereafter He will establish His kingdom and usher in Hisone thousand-year reign of peace. On January 13, 1990, the Indianapolis Star carried the headline “Turkey Will Cut Off Flow of Euphrates for One Month.” The article stated that a huge reservoir had been built by Turkey. While filling up the reservoir, theflow of the Euphrates would be stopped for one month and a concrete plug for a diversion channel built. These things have now been done. With this newly built dam, Turkey has the ability to stop the Euphrates River at will. The conditions for fulfilling this

1,900 year-old prophecy are now in place.

In Revelation 9:15-16,the Bible prophesies that an army of 200 million soldiers will launch a war which would kill “the third part of men.” Never in thehistory of the world until our present generation has there been a power on earth that could field 200 million soldiers. However, the late ruler of China, Mao Tse Tung boasted in his diary that he could field an army of 200 million. The CIA World Factbookreports that in the year 2001, it is estimated that China has 200,886,946 men of military age, and this number is growing by 10million per year.

In Revelation 13, the Bible prophesies that a world dictator will soon rule over a world government. He will cause all people in the earth to receive a number without whichthey will be unable to buy or sell. We are seeing this prophecy fulfilled before our eyes in a most astonishing way. Nearly every human being in the world now has been assigned a number. In America it is our Social Security number. In the past few years, we have seen this number extended to newborns. A child without a Social Security number cannot be declared as a dependent on an income tax return. We have seen the emergence of electronic money, shopping with credit cards, and many people urgingthe abolishment of cash. All of these things could not possibly have been fulfilled until this present time. Only after the inventionof the computer could such a worldwide numbering system be administered.

Revelation 13:7 andDaniel 7:23 prophesy the establishment of a world government. The term “New World Order” has become a prevalent phrase inthe world’s political culture. Mikhail Gorbachev made the term famous, and Pope John Paul II has referred to it repeatedly. Inthe September 12, 1990 issue of the Chicago Tribune , our former president George Bush said, “Iraq is the first test for the New  World Order.” He emphatically stated that the Iraq War is Saddam Hussein against the world. The United Nations’ troops arecontinually referred to as the multi-national forces. The decision has been made to establish an interdependent community of nations that will rule the world under United Nations authority. The Bible says that this will lead us into a great world govern-ment. The formation of this government is at hand.

Is it coincidental that all of these major prophecies pertaining to the last times are being fulfilled simultaneously?

    Saving the U.S.A.

As always I enjoy your show. I continue to be fascinated by your zeal to save the U.S.A., and for the life of me, I cannotfind this example in scripture, which doesn’t necessarilymean it is misguided.

As far as the U.S. in the corporal sense, I couldn’t care less.

I am much more interested in seeing individual people in theU.S. become born again. Passing laws and constitutionalamendments is not going to get or convince anyone of eternalsalvation. —B. Russell

REPLY God not only loves the USA, He loves the whole world. I admit that I do love this country and pray that God would pour out a great revival upon it.

And by the way, if Sodom and Gomorrah would have hada constitutional amendment against same-sex relations and

would have enforced it, God would not have destroyed them.

A little closer to the mark

I just thought this was too close for comfort. I was telling afriend of mine at work that my daughter was a little upset thather kids now have debit cards instead of money for theirschool lunches. She said, “They don’t do that at my kids’school. They just scan their fingerprint, and all the informa-tion they need comes right up on the screen.” Not only that,my friend didn’t even have to give permission for her kids’fingerprints to be taken. And people don’t think that we’reliving in the endtimes!

Keep up the good work, and God be with you. —Debbie

    Misplaced enthusiasm?

I feel your temple enthusiasm is misplaced. It’s one thingto confirm scripture by showing how building plans exist –that is cause for excitement, I agree. But you at Endtime areaware of its existence because of an unbelieving people whorefuse to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. This temple is anabomination to God, but Endtime seems to glorify it and caterto the people who intend to build it.

[When you provide links on the news page of your websiteto sites such the Temple Institute in Jerusalem], it seems tosuggest that we should buy jewelry from these people. I sug-gest Endtime should focus more on witnessing to these peo-

ple about Jesus Christ. I hope you’re not waiting for theappropriate time, which may never present itself, in order to

get guided tours and acceptance from them.

I send this message in love and hope your ministry contin-ues to reveal hidden truths that can bring people to Christ

     Jesus. —Michael

REPLY I am a firm believer that God no longer dwells intemples made with hands. However, the prophecies about the

temple that will stand in the endtime do not depict the tem- ple as an abomination. In both II Thessalonians 2:4 and inRevelation 11:1-2, the temple is described as the “temple of God.” Both of these prophecies describe the state of affairsthat will exist 3 1/2 years before Armageddon. This is 3 1/2

years before the fulfillment of Romans 11:25-26, which tellsus that all of Israel shall be saved.

The prophecy declares that the rebuilt temple will standafter Israel’s 2,000-year exile is over and her nation has beenreborn. Israel’s revival spoken of by Hosea 6:1-2 will be in

progress:“Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn,

and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raiseus up, and we shall live in his sight.”

It is obvious that part of the prophecies concerning Israel inthe last days has now been fulfilled. Part of them is yet tocome. These prophecies in progress are a great witnessingtool that can win Jew and Gentile alike.

    Long way off?

I have a few questions about the endtimes. In Matthew24:32-35, could “this generation” mean mankind? Is this

when the human experience ends? With 2002 stats of four bil-lion who have not heard a clear message of the gospel, and

two billion with no Christian living nearby to tell them, do you think the Church has fulfilled the commission of preach-ing the gospel to all nations?

I believe most of the trumpets have sounded, as you teach, but could there still be many years before the tribulation? We

will know for sure when we see the Antichrist stand in thetemple, but could that still be a long way off?

    —S. Simpson, South Korea

REPLY The generation of which Jesus spoke could not pos-sibly refer to the end of the human experience. The prophe-cies of Matthew 24 are signs of the Second Coming and theend of the age. There will be another 1,000 years after the

    Second Coming (Revelation 20:1-15).

    Rare compliment

I never agree with what you say about prophecy, but the program in which you spoke of the difference between the wrath of Satan and the wrath of God was one of the fewexceptions. Everything you said was correct.

Congratulations (trust me, this a rare compliment). I knowmore about prophecy than anyone I know, but there will be

those who will come in the future knowing far more about prophecy than you and I. —Paul

    The eagle

I wondered what you thought about any connectionbetween the eagle in Revelation and Rome. I have alwaysagreed with your idea that the eagle represented the U.S.until I was told that the symbol for Rome, and specifically itsmilitary, was the eagle. I was pretty shaken up and spentsome time researching it online and found the information tobe true. I am anxious to hear your thoughts. —C. Wulfsberg

REPLY The eagle has been used as a symbol by many

nations. However, the eagle’s wings in Daniel 7:4 are depict-ed as coming out of the lion. The lion is Great Britain. Obvi-ously, Rome did not come out of Great Britain. The U.S. did.The rest of this prophecy fits the United States explicitly.

In the book of Revelation, the eagle’s wings are portrayedas helping the woman—Israel. Rome has not been a protectorof Israel. The U.S., on the other hand, is Israel’s number onefriend and ally.

Also we should consider that two entire chapters in Reve-lation are devoted to prophecies about Rome. Chapters 17and 18 speak of Rome as the great whore.

    The Harvests

Revelation 14 talks about the harvest. If the saints and sin-ners are both harvested, who’s left? —Susan

REPLY Revelation 14:14-20 describes two harvests. Thesetwo harvests are the same two harvests described by Jesus inMatthew 13 as the harvest of the wheat and the tares. In Rev-elation 14, the harvest that was cast into the winepress refersto the Battle of Armageddon. We know that not every personon earth will be at Armageddon. We also know that the earth

will be inhabited during the 1000-year reign of Jesus thatimmediately follows Armageddon. Obviously, not everyoneon earth will be destroyed. Daniel 7:11-12 describes nations

that will lose their power when the Antichrist is destroyed;but they continue to live into the millennium under the reignof Jesus and His church.

    Old vs. New Testament

In discussing the situation of North Korea one day, youused the expression, “If we were living in the Old Testament.”Since Jesus came we have moved into the New Testament, the spiritual kingdom. The Old Testament was the physicalkingdom, and they are totally different.

Mr. Baxter, last time I checked we were still living in God’s physical kingdom, but we walk in the spirit. God has neverchanged His Word. It is eternal and everlasting. I believe that

means all of His word and not part of it. You use Old Testa-

ment scriptures all the time for future events at that! How can you even think the old and new are totally different?? Do wenot serve the same God? Perhaps you should read again Johnchapter 1 then go to some of the references: Genesis, Isaiah,Zephaniah 3:8,9. —T. Vaclavik

REPLY The word “testament” means will. I’m sure you have

heard of the “last will and testament” of a person. The Old Tes-tament is the old will of God. The New Testament is the new will of God. This does not mean that the Old Testament is notvaluable or that it is not the word of God. Scripture teaches usthat the Old Testament object lessons are types and shadowsof the spiritual realities of the New Testament.

Romans 6:14 tells us, “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” Romans7:6 teaches, “But now we are delivered from the law, thatbeing dead wherein we were held; that we should serve innewness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.”

against the odds and speak God’s word as He has given it!—Irene

     A glorious thought

     Al-Qaida plot to split Spain

     from allies

A recently revealed document showsthat al-Qaida planned to carry outattacks to separate Madrid from the

U.S. and its allies in the war on terror. The document was published on anInternet message board used by al-Qaida months before Spain’s nationalelections.

The document made the followingclaim: “We think the Spanish govern-ment… will be forced to withdrawbecause of the public pressure on it….the victory of the Socialist Party will bealmost guaranteed – and the withdraw-al of Spanish forces will be on its cam-

     paign manifesto.”

That prediction was fulfilled when theSocialists who were lagging in the pollsousted Prime Minister Jose MariaAznar’s Popular Party three days after 10bombs ripped through Madrid’s Atochastation, killing at least 201 people.

Immediately after the victory, PrimeMinister-elect Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapa-tero vowed to pull out Spain’s 1,300troops in Iraq by June 30th if the Unit-ed Nations “doesn’t take control of Iraq.” Zapatero said the war in Iraq wasa mistake and Spain’s participation in it“has been a total error.”

In Denver, Colorado, about 300 peo- ple of various faiths cleaned up a syna-gogue vandalized with swastikas andNazi symbols on the eve of the Jewishholiday Purim.

The crowd that showed up at BMH-

shaking and broke down,” she said. “Allthe wounds, the old wounds startedopening again.”

Rabbi Daniel Cohen said the vandal-ism may have been sparked by Mel Gib-son’s “The Passion of the Christ”. Themovie, which some feel wronglyblames Jews for the death of Christ, hasbeen criticized as anti-Semitic.

    China’s warnings

China told the United States that HongKong’s affairs are none of their business. The warning came after an address to aU.S. Senate hearing on the issue of democracy in the former British colony.

In addition, Taiwan President ChenShui-bian was dubbed “immoral” and

In a recent court case, the U.S.Supreme Court ruled that taxpayer-funded college scholarship programscan be denied to students majoring intheological studies. This ruling couldhave a dramatic effect on a wide rangeof religious-freedom issues and marks adeparture from a recent trend of allow-ing religion in state-sponsored settings.

The daily Corriere della Sera quotedthe city’s chief administrator of police,Achille Sera, as saying “the demonstra-tion poses no problems of public orderor safety.” A possible threat to public

order, safety or health was the only

legal grounds to ban a protest march.Sources at city hall said they would cutoff electric power at the protest site.

Rome’s Jewish community and anassociation of families of victims of theArdeatine massacre said two counter-demonstrations would be held that

same day, one in the capital and theother in the caves.

    WhoKilled

    Jesus?

    » PERSPECTIVE

    10 ENDTIME MAGAZINE MAY / JUN 2004

In the wake of Mel Gibson’s “ThePassion of the Christ” opening, the pas-tor of a Denver church decided that it

would be apropos to remind rush-hourtravelers of who should be blamed for

paving the way for our eternal salva-tion. “Jews killed the Lord Jesus,” readthe marquee in front of the LovingwayPentecostal Church on February 25th.

Some passersby thought the sign wasnot very loving.

    Below this traffic-slowing headline,Pastor Maurice Gordon cited the scrip-ture I Thessalonians 2:14-15.

Gordon’s message was inspired byMel Gibson’s “The Passion of theChrist,” a movie in which Gibsonclaims he did not blame the crucifixionof Jesus on the Jews. However, this isthe controversy that had been raging

since even before the movie’s release.

Reaction among the Jewish community was mixed. Somespoke out against itvociferously, whileothers maintain thatChristians are theirbest friends.

    A considerable

segment of Christian-ity has had a historyof anti-Semitism,holding to the teach-ing that the Jews

killed Jesus Christ, and therefore it would be righteous to kill the Jews. Many people believe Adolph Hitleracted under that premise.

The I Thessalonians scripture refer-enced on Gordon’s sign reads, “For ye,brethren, became followers of thechurches of God which in Judaea are inChrist Jesus: for ye also have sufferedlike things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews: Whoboth killed the Lord Jesus, and theirown prophets, and have persecuted us;and they please not God, and are con-trary to all men.”

In this passage of Scripture, the Apos-tle Paul did, in fact, attribute the killingof Jesus Christ to the Jewish people andasserted that they are the church’s ene-mies. Yet Paul himself was Jewish. He

was Saul, also known as Paul (Acts 13:9).

So how does this all come together?

    Jews only?

Would it be accurate to say that the Jews were the only party responsiblefor the death of Jesus? Does it thereforelogically follow that today’s Jews, 20generations later, are responsible for

what their ancestors did? Or could it be

that the first-century Jews were one of many responsible parties?

Matthew 27:20-26 gives the accountof the chief priests and rabbis persuad-ing the crowd to ask for Barabbas anddemand that Jesus be killed. The gover-nor asked what should be done with

Jesus. Their reply was, “Crucify him!”Again he asked, “What crime has he

committed?” Their reply was the same.Pilate, realizing that he could not pre-vail, washed his hands before the peo-

ple and said, “I am innocent of theblood of this just person: see ye to it.”

The crowd yelled back, “His blood beon us, and on our children.”

Pilate was trying to convince the peo- ple to let Jesus go free, but politics stoodin his way. Some of the more vocal andzealous Jewish people in the crowd

played the loyalty-to-Caesar card, draw-ing into question Pilate’s allegiance tothe Roman emperor. After all, Jesusspoke against Caesar. John 19:12recounts, “And from thenceforth Pilate

sought to release him: but the Jews

cried out, saying, If thou let this mango, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whoso-ever maketh himself a king speakethagainst Caesar.”

Instead of releasing Jesus, a man whom he knew was innocent, Pilategave the people a choice, then washed

his hands of the matter. The crazed mobchose Barabbas.

    Rome’s guilt

Under Roman rule, Israel was notallowed to exact capital punishmentupon its citizens; therefore Jesus couldnot be judged according to Jewish law.The Jewish high priests wanted Himdead. In order to accomplish this, Jesushad to be brought before a Romancourt. The religious leaders influencedthe people to reject their Messiah, but it

cannot be forgotten that it was the Gen-tiles who killed him. In this respect, theRomans had their part.

Looking at it in present day terms, theone who places the hit is as guilty as theone who carries it out. In a court of law, both get Murder One.

    Spreading the guilt

When Messiah came to the Jewish people, he was rejected. Jesus expressedin Luke 13:34-35: “O Jerusalem,

     Jerusalem, which killest the prophets,

and stonest them that are sent untothee; how often would I have gatheredthy children together, as a hen dothgather her brood under her wings, and

ye would not! Behold, your house is leftunto you desolate: and verily I say unto

you, Ye shall not see me, until the timecome when ye shall say, Blessed is hethat cometh in the name of the Lord.”

Jesus related the coming judgment tothe seriousness of their sin; however, not all of them rejected Him. Most peo-

ple overlook the fact that the earlychurch was comprised exclusively of  Jews who had believed Jesus to be theMessiah.

Acts 5:27-30 relates, “And when theyhad brought them, they set them beforethe council: and the high priest askedthem, Saying, Did not we straitly com-mand you that ye should not teach inthis name? and, behold, ye have filled

Jerusalem with your doctrine, andintend to bring this man’s blood uponus. Then Peter and the other apostles

answered and said, We ought to obey

God rather than men. The God of ourfathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slewand hanged on a tree.”

If this judgment was only for the Jews who rejected Jesus, was it also tothe Gentiles who rejected Him? This isa critical point. Gentiles were as guilty

of the crucifixion of Jesus as the ones who cried out for Barabbas. Acts 10 tellsus of Cornelius, the first Gentile to

whom the Gospel was preached andreceived. The Bible tells how Corneliusgladly received the word. He and hishousehold were saved.

But what of those who don’t receiveit? Paul preached that through Jesus theforgiveness of sins is preached and thatall who believe are justified (declaredinnocent) from all things (Acts 13:38-39). By accepting Jesus as Lord and Sav-

ior, a person is justified by His blood,

which becomes the atonement for sin(Romans 5:9-11). Conversely, all those

who reject Him are guilty of His blood.

The real reason for His death

We cannot overlook Isaiah 53:10-11.It says, “Yet it pleased the LORD to

bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offer-ing for sin… by his knowledge shall myrighteous servant justify many; for heshall bear their iniquities.”

Nor can we overlook John 10:18 in which Jesus tells Pilate: “No man takethit from me, but I lay it down of myself.I have power to lay it down, and I have

power to take it again. This command-ment have I received of my Father.”

John Sullivan, in a letter to ENDTIME,summarized it this way: “What drives

the nail into the wood? The hammer, the

The Jews wanted Jesus dead. The Jews did it. The Romans put Him onthe cross. The Romans did it. Oursins made it necessary. We did it. InIsaiah, God said that He was pleased

to bruise the Son. The Father put HisSon to death. Jesus said no man takesHis life but He lays it down willing-ly. Jesus sacrificed Himself.

The Jews killed Jesus? It doesn’texactly tell the whole story.

    The true loving way

Quick in response to the national furor created byGordon, his denomination’s headquarters issued adefinitive statement explaining that it does not now,nor has it ever in the past taught that the Jewish peo-

ple as a race or nation are responsible for the death

of Jesus Christ. “It is neither biblical nor logical tohold an entire people responsible for the crucifixion.”

It continued, “Jesus’ death was for all mankind. Itsmessage is one of love and forgiveness, offering free-dom and hope to all people regardless of race, lan-guage or culture. Through His Spirit and the powerof His Name all are included in the biblical state-ment that Jesus died ‘once for all’ (Hebrews 10:10).

“Contrary to what has been expressed, our con-stituency is largely pro-Israel and accustomed to

praying daily for Jerusalem. We wholeheartedlybelieve that the Jews were chosen of God to be Hisinstrument to bring monotheism to the world.

“We strongly disagree with any who wouldattempt to use the Cross and the suffering of Jesusas an excuse to justify anti-Semitism or any otherform of racism or prejudice. If one would attempt toexplain the reason for the death of Christ, he needlook no further than Romans 5:8: ‘But God com-mendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were

yet sinners, Christ died for us.’”This is the whole council of Scripture and the true

way to share the good news with the world, especial-ly to our Jewish friends – for these are the people to

whom we are indebted for preserving the Holy

Scriptures and giving us our Messiah. e

What do we know for sureabout the future course ofevents in the Middle East?

    1. We know that the Antichrist andthe world community will confirm acovenant with Israel for the final seven

years prior to the Battle of Armaged-don. This covenant refers to thecovenant God made with Abraham thatHis seed would possess the land of

Israel.2. The Temple Mount will be shared

between Jew and Gentile, a Jewish tem- ple will be built and animal sacrifices will be instituted. This will all come to pass before the final three and one-half  years.

    3. Three and one-half years beforeArmageddon the Antichrist will claimsovereignty over the Temple Mount. This event is called the abomination of desolation in scripture.

At this same time, terrible conflict will break out in the West Bank, thearea of biblical Judea. Jews living in thisarea will have to flee for their lives. Many will be slaughtered.

At the end of the final seven years, the United Nations will launch an inva-sion of Israel. This will ignite the Battleof Armageddon. When Israel is on thebrink of defeat, Jesus will appear andfight for her. This will end the age of human government and begin the reignof the kingdom of God.

    The present situation

The world community is more heavi-ly involved in the Middle East than everbefore. On April 30, 2003, it presentedIsrael and the Palestinians with a planto finally bring peace to the MiddleEast. This plan, called the Roadmap forPeace, was formulated by the UnitedStates, the European Union, the Russ-ian Federation and the United Nations.

The Roadmap called for an end to ter-rorist activities, the dismantling of ter-rorist organizations, the cessation of

hostilities, the establishment of a Pales-tinian state, mutual respect for holysites, a negotiated solution to the statusof Jerusalem and a resolving of all otherissues by 2005.

In June of 2003, the Palestinians andthe Israelis officially signed on to theRoadmap. While signing, the Israelisemphasized repeatedly that they wouldnot fulfill their obligations unless the

Palestinians stopped terrorism and dis-mantled terrorist entities, the first stepsrequired by the agreement.

Mahmoud Abbas was the Palestinian prime minister at the time of the sign-

ing. When pressed to stop terrorism andto disarm terrorist entities such asHamas and the al Aqsa Brigade, Abbasopenly said that he would not disman-tle the terrorist organizations—eventhough the Roadmap that he signedspecifically required it.

After Abbas resigned in frustrationbecause of being continually hand-cuffed by Arafat, a new prime minister,

Ahmed Qureia, was appointed byArafat. The world hoped that Qureia

would be willing to bring terrorismunder control. However, he soonannounced that he would not attempt

    SHARON’S DISENGAGEMENT PLANP R O P H E T I C I M P L I C A T I O N S BY IRVIN BAXTER

Six months after trying and failing to kill Hamas founder and spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, Israel suc-ceeded with a missile from a helicopter. On March 22nd, the man who made the goal of his life the destruction of theJewish state was on the receiving end of a Jewish missile as he left a Gaza City mosque. The precise targeting, whichalso killed two of his sons and several of his bodyguards, took place hours after Israel warned it would be militarily down-grading Hamas’ terrorist capabilities. Fox News reported that all that was left of the blind, wheelchair-bound Muslim killer was his head. This photo was taken in September 2003 just after he was targeted by an Israeli warplane which fired amissile at a building in Gaza City minutes after Yassin had left it. He was slightly injured in the attack. In the photo, Yassinis seated, flanked by bodyguards. EPA PHOTO/EPA/ MOHAMMED SABER

to disarm the terrorists. He stated thatto do so would cause civil war in thePalestinian territories.

    Unilateral disengagement

It soon became obvious to Israeli

Prime Minister Sharon and then to the world that the Palestinians wouldn’t orcouldn’t fulfill the first step in theRoadmap for Peace. The plan was obvi-ously a non-starter. Events went into aholding pattern while the suicide bomb-ings and Israel’s reprisals to them con-tinued.

With no light at the end of the tunnel,Israeli morale began to suffer. Sharonknew that something had to be done...but what?

On December 18, 2003, Prime Minis-ter Sharon delivered an historic speechat the annual Herzliya Conference. Inthe speech, he announced his intentionto build a security fence the entirelength of the nation of Israel. He saidthat once the fence was completed,Israel would unilaterally withdrawfrom Gaza and from much of the areaof Judea-Samaria. By withdrawing tothe security fence, Israel would sepa-rate herself from the Palestinians with

whom she could not make peace.

Sharon was careful to say that theRoadmap would be better, but that thePalestinians were unwilling to disarmterrorism. Consequently the Roadmapcould not be implemented.

In the Herzliya speech, Sharon saidthat he had consulted with the UnitedStates about his unilateral disengage-ment plan. More recently, intense nego-tiations have been conducted betweenU.S. and Israeli diplomats. Sharon willtravel to the United States as this issuegoes to press in an attempt to reach total

    agreement with President Bush on

implementing the disengagement plan.In the meantime, the U.S. has urged

the United Nations to endorse Israel’sunilateral engagement plan.

    The future

How do we move from where we aretoday to the events prophesied for thefuture?

    • Confirmation of the covenant: If the UN signs on to the disengagement

plan, then Israel will be proceeding with the approval of the nations of the world. Remember, the prophecies indi-cate that the world community willconfirm Israel’s right to the land thatGod covenanted to Abraham. Whenthey do, the final seven years toArmageddon will begin. We have to

wonder if world community support forIsrael’s disengagement plan could bethe confirmation of the covenant spo-ken of in Daniel 9:27.

    • Temple Mount shared: Some peo- ple believe that Israel’s unilateral disen-gagement could break the present stale-mate in the peace process and createconditions that would allow the eventu-al implementing of the world communi-ty’s Roadmap. Under the Roadmap, alloutstanding issues between Palestinians

and Israelis are to be permanentlyresolved. The most sensitive of theseissues is control of the Temple Mountand the desire of Jews to worship there.Whether Israel’s disengagement planappears to be a success or the peace

process proceeds in another way, thestatus of the Temple Mount will eventu-ally have to be dealt with. It is the gen-eral consensus that the only realisticsolution to the Temple Mount, whichboth Muslims and Jews consider holy, isto share it. It is generally believed that

such a sharing arrangement will have tobe done under international supervi-sion—meaning the UN.

    • The Third Temple: It is difficult tosee how the building of Israel’s ThirdTemple will come to pass. However, it

will happen because the Bible specifi-cally says that it will. History teaches usthat in times of global upheaval, devel-opments previously thought impossiblesuddenly become acceptable.

    Consider this possible scenario.

When the prophesied war that will killone-third of mankind occurs, the

renewal of religious devotion couldbecome commonplace. The Jews con-tend that their Third Temple will be a“house of prayer for all nations,” not

just for the Jews. The building of Israel’s Third Temple could be trumpet-

ed as a source of religious unity for abattered and wounded world.

Jews have not offered animal sacri-fices in almost 2,000 years since theybelieve these should be done in theirtemple on the Temple Mount. Oncetheir temple is rebuilt, animal sacrifices

will be resumed.• Abomination of desolation: Any-

one who has followed events in theMiddle East knows that conflictbetween Jews and Arabs attempting toshare the 35 acres of the Temple Mountis inevitable. When disputes arise, the

world community and its leader will becalled on to arbitrate. This is when theAntichrist will stand on the TempleMount claiming authority there. Scrip-tures states that he will claim to be God.The actual words that he will useremain to be seen.

    • The great tribulation: ArielSharon claims that he will withdrawIsraeli troops from all territories outsidethe proposed security fence. Many Jew-

ish settlers living in this area called Judea contend that this territory is their promised land and that they will notleave their homes, even if Israel with-draws. In Matthew 24:15-21, Jesus saidthat those living in Judea would experi-ence tribulation “such as was not sincethe beginning of the world to this time,no, nor ever shall be.”

Sharon’s unilateral withdrawal plancertainly seems to be setting the stagefor the fulfillment of this prophecy.

    • Armageddon: The Battle of

Armageddon will be triggered when theinternational community decides toinvade Israel because it refuses to com-

ply to some UN mandate. The issuecould be final Palestinian-Israeli bor-ders. It could be Israel’s refusal to sur-render her nuclear weapons program.

Whatever the premise, the armies of the world will invade Israel, pushingher to the brink of defeat. Then Jesus

will appear in the clouds of heaven. He will defeat the armies of the Antichrist,

and we will crown Him King of kingsand Lord of lords! e

    ecember 8th is a very

special day for Europe:in 1955, on that day,the European Minis-ters’ delegates official-

ly adopted the European flag designedby Arsene Heitz, who today is an octo-genarian artist in Strasbourg. Perhaps, not by coincidence, December 8th isthe Feast of The Immaculate Concep-tion of Mary our co-redeemer.

The decision was taken following the1950 European Council’s (one of the

predecessors of today’s EuropeanUnion) convocation of a competition todesign the flag of the newborn Euro-

pean Community. Among many otherartists, Heitz presented several designs, and one was chosen: 12 stars on a bluebackground.

    Its Catholic origins

The original idea for the blue Euro- pean flag has a Roman Catholic origin.Paul G.M. Levi, professor at the RomanCatholic University of Leuven (Bel-

gium) was a Jew but became a RomanCatholic. In 1949 he became director of the Cultural department of the Board of Europe. Six years later he came up(according to the leading GermanNewspaper Die Welt ) with the conceptof the European flag. Levi, fascinatedby the holy virgin with the stars aroundher head, proposed to the SecretaryGeneral of Board of Europe, Earl Ben-venuti, to choose the symbol of Mary. When the members of parliamentagreed, Levi said: “How on earth is it

     possible? We just rediscovered the

introit of the new Mass of Mary’s

    Assumption!”The European Union’s flag’s 12 stars

were inspired by the halo of 12 starsthat appear around the Madonna inCatholic pictures of her. A former secre-tary general of the Council of Europe,Leon Marchal, affirmed that the starsare those of “the woman of the Apoca-lypse.” Enthusiastically he explained,“It’s wonderful that we have gottenback to the Introit of the new Mass of the Assumption. It’s the corona stel-larum duodecim (the crownof the twelve stars) of the

woman of the Apocalypse.”This is a reference to the

woman in Revelation 12 who appears with a crownof 12 stars. The CatholicChurch has always claimedthat she represents the Vir-gin Mary, “the mother of God.”

The EU, which now has15 member countries, has

confirmed that the numberof stars will always stay at12, which indicates that thestars do not represent coun-tries. I quote from a leaflet,“Building Europe Together,”

which was given to visitorsto EU headquarters in Brus-sels: “The European flag (is)a shared flag, blue with 12gold stars symbolizing com-

pleteness. The number willremain 12 no matter how

    many countries there are in

    the European Union.”

     Artist reveals Virgin Mary was

    inspiration for design

Recently Heitz revealed to a Frenchmagazine the reason for his inspira-tion. At that time he was reading thehistory of the Blessed Virgin’s appari-tions in Paris’ Rue du Bac, knowntoday as the Virgin of the MiraculousMedal. According to the artist, hethought of the 12 stars in a circle on ablue background, exactly the way it is

represented in traditional iconographyof this image of the Immaculate Con-ception. In the beginning, Heitz saw itas a flight of fancy, among the manythat run through an artist’s imagina-tion; but the idea caught his attention,to the point that it became the subject

of his meditation.According to Javier Paredes, Profes-

sor of Contemporary History at theUniversity of Alcala in Spain, in state-ments sent to ZENIT [Vatican-basednews agency], “Heitz listens to God inhis interior; in other words, he prays

with his heart and his head. He says heis profoundly religious and devoted tothe Virgin, to whom he never misses

praying a daily Rosary, together withhis wife. Because of this, he believes theinspiration came not only from hisartistic talents, but from the silent voic-es that Heaven always speaks to men of good will, among whom Heitz canundoubtedly be numbered. He is anartist who, virtually at the end of hislife and at the zenith of his career, can

proclaim with the guarantee of authen-ticity that he recalls that moment, thathe is interested in very few but veryimportant things, that he regards him-self as a man who loves the whole

world, but especially the Blessed Vir-

gin, who is our Mother.”Professor Paredes admits that “nei-ther the stars nor the blue of the flag are

particularly religious symbols, thusrespecting the conscience of all Euro-

peans, regardless of their beliefs.”Indeed, he recalls that “when Paul

M.G. Levy, first director of the Pressand Information Service of the Euro-

pean Council had to explain to theMembers of the Economic Communitythe meaning of the design, he interpret-ed the number of 12 stars as a ‘figure of

plentitude,’ given that in the 50s there

were not 12 members in thatCouncil, nor in the EuropeanCommunity.”

“However, in Heitz’s soulthe words of the Apocalypse

were very present: ‘A greatsign appeared in the Heav-

ens: a Woman clothed withthe sun and with the moon ather feet, and on her head acrown of twelve stars.’ And,

perhaps without realizing it,the delegates of the European

Ministers officially adopted the design proposed by Heitz on the feast of OurLady: December 8, 1955,” explainedProf. Paredes. “That’s a lot of coinci-dences, so henceforth it should not bedifficult for us to discover in the folds of the Europeans’ flag the smile and affec-

tion of Our Mother, the Queen of Europe, ready to lend a hand in that

great challenge that St. Peter’s succes-sor has proposed to us: to re-Christian-ize the Old Continent with the exampleof our lives and the testimony of our

     words.”

    Pan-European movement

The Pan-European movement of OttoHabsburg wants a conservative andRoman Catholic Europe. In his book,The Social Order of Tomorrow, he writes:

“Now we do possess a European sym-bol which belongs to all nations equally. This is the crown of the Holy RomanEmpire, which embodies the traditionof Charlemagne, the ruler of a unitedoccident... the Crown represents notmerely the sovereignty of the monarch, but also the ties between authority andthe people. True, it is the monarch whois crowned, but in this sacred act heappears as the representative of the

whole people. It should therefore beconsidered whether the European headof state, as the protector of Europeanlaw and justice, should not also becomethe guardian of a symbol which, morethan any other, represents the sover-eignty of the European community.”

    HOLYROMANEMPIRE

    2004Can the Antichrist and the

    False Prophet be far behind?

    BY IRVIN BAXTER

Two major prophecies indicatethat the Holy Roman Empire will be the dominant forceon earth at the time of the Second Coming of Jesus. We are

witnessing a rebirth of the Holy Roman Empire right now. It’s important that we understand the difference

between the Roman Empire and the Holy RomanEmpire. The Roman Empire ruled the world from about200 BC to approximately 300 AD. It was in power dur-

ing the time of Jesus. That’s the reason there wereRoman soldiers in Israel at the time of the crucifixion.

The Holy Roman Empire wasn’t even born until 800AD. At that time, Pope Leo III placed the crown on thehead of Charlemagne pronouncing him Emperor of theHoly Roman Empire. This union of church and state hasruled Europe off and on since then. The prophecies saythe Holy Roman Empire will experience one more brief time of power immediately before the Battle of Armageddon.

The first prophecy concerning the Holy Roman Empireis found in Daniel 2:31-45. In the image depicting all the

world empires that will rule from the time of Babylon tothe Second Coming, the Roman Empire is portrayed bythe legs of iron. The Holy Roman Empire is symbolizedby the feet of iron mingled with clay. The clay representsthe religious element of the Holy Roman Empire.

Another prophecy about the Holy Roman Empire isgiven in the New Testament in Revelation 17. There a

woman is riding a seven-headed, ten-horned beast. Thechapter explains that the woman is a city that exercises

power over peoples, multitudes, nations and tongues. Italso tells us that the city will sit on seven hills. Rome isthe City of Seven Hills and is the headquarters for theRoman Catholic Church, which presides over its mem-

bers in virtually every nation on earth. The beast sym-

bolizes the political power with whichCatholicism will be inalliance.

Both of these prophe-cies conclude with aunion of ten kings fight-

ing against Jesus at HisSecond Coming. InDaniel 2, the ten toes of the image represent theten kings. Verse 44 states,“And in the days of thesekings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom,

     which shall never bedestroyed...”

In Revelation 17:12-14, we are told, “And the tenhorns which thou sawest

are ten kings, which havereceived no kingdom as

yet; but receive power askings one hour with thebeast. These have one mind, and shallgive their power and strength unto thebeast. These shall make war with theLamb, and the Lamb shall overcomethem: for he is Lord of lords, and Kingof kings: and they that are with him arecalled, and chosen, and faithful.”

Both of these prophecies foretell analliance between the political forces of

the day and Roman Catholicism. In theDaniel 2 prophecy, the iron symbolizesthe political forces, and the clay symbol-izes Catholicism. In Revelation 17, thebeast symbolizes the political forces, andthe woman symbolizes Catholicism.

    Being revived now

For over 50 years now, an effort tocreate a United States of Europe hasbeen in progress. From 1957 to the pres-ent, great strides have been made

toward the unification of Europe. Alleconomic barriers have been abolished.A person can raise crops in one stateand sell them in another just like wecan do in the United States. All borderchecks between states have been elimi-nated. You can move your residencefrom one state to another freely withoutgovernmental permission.

This unification endeavor will reachfull fruition in 2004. Several majormilestones will be reached by Europethis year.

Ten new nations will join the Euro-

pean Union, bringing thetotal to 25 with a combined

     population of 455 million.(The U.S. has a population of 280 million.) A European

president will be elected this year for the first time. Theadoption of a European con-stitution is planned. A Euro-

pean military is beingformed. Europe now has itsown currency—the euro. The euro is already begin-ning to challenge the U.S.dollar for prominence in

     world currency markets.

    The Antichrist and the

    False Prophet

Two men have alwaysruled the Holy Roman

Empire—a political leaderand a spiritual leader. This will be true once again in thelast revival of this empire.Prophecy refers to these twoendtime rulers as theAntichrist and the FalseProphet.

    As we watch the dramatic

developments of Europeanunification this year, we can’thelp but wonder—can theAntichrist and the False

    Prophet be far behind?   e

Even so-called “news buffs” tend toignore the importance of this singularentity. Yet this player has demonstratedan extreme potency on the national andglobal political scene; and now, as hasbeen the case for centuries, world lead-ers gingerly approach the high offices of this institution, seeking special bless-ings and paying homage to its long-standing position of “high-authority.”

One of the primary reasons that theaverage Westerner fails to notice thisinstitution is because it is predominant-

ly viewed as a solely religious body. However, for almost two thousand

years, it has arguably been the mostdynamic political organization on theface of the globe. Yes, this organizationis “religious,” and yes, it is political –some have even claimed that it’s the“perfect blend of politics and religion.”But no matter how it’s viewed, either

by the casual observer or by the mosthardened political researcher, the factremains that the Roman CatholicChurch and its political/spiritual hub –Vatican City – is a geopolitical power-house that cannot be ignored.

History has a funny way of being for-gotten. When Constantine, the Emperorof Rome, granted religious freedom tothe persecuted Christians in AD 313, it

was much more than just an act of human compassion centered on “Chris-tian conversion” – it was a shrewd polit-ical move meant to unify the Empire. And when Christianity became recog-nized as a Roman-state religion, Con-

stantine was elevated as “head of thechurch” [Ed. Note: at the same time he

was still the head of Roman paganism].Through Constantine’s actions, the

Roman Catholic Church was birthed asan institutionalized political-religiousRoman alliance. Thus, via this morphedspiritual-governmental entity, Roman-ism remained alive in spite of the fact

that the “national” Roman Empire frac-tured and collapsed. Ironically, even thename “Roman Catholicism” reflects thishistorical reality. “Catholic” means “uni-versal,” Roman Catholicism literallymeans “Universal Romanism.” Today, the Catholic Church is the living andenlarged extension of Constantine’s

political-religious experiment. And the experiment continues. Since

the time of the Church’s beginningsuntil the present day, the Roman hierar-chy has been involved in countless

political intrigues. Speaking on the Vati-can’s hand in world affairs, Avro Man-hattan, a BBC commentator and expert

on Vatican geopolitics, wrote in 1949,“This power of the Catholic Church

to interfere in social and politicalspheres is rendered infinitely more dan-gerous by the fact that it is not limitedto any given country: it reaches allcountries in which there are Catholics. Thus there is no continent where thePope cannot influence, to a greater or

less degree, the social and political lifeof the community.” (The Vatican inWorld Politics, p.18)

And Europe, of all the continents dur-ing the last one hundred years, has feltthis hand the hardest – a hand that wasdirectly involved in negotiating the

Armistice of World War I, a hand thatadded authenticity to the Nazi regimeof World War II (Pope Pius XII has accu-rately been described as “Hitler’sPope”), a hand that perpetrated theslaughter of the Serbs during the Ger-man occupation of Yugoslavia (historian

John Cornwell described it as an“attempt to create a ‘pure’ CatholicCroatia by enforced conversions, depor-tations, and mass exterminations…oneof the most appalling civilian massacresknown to history”), and a hand that has

applauded the work of “world govern-ment,” the United Nations, and Euro-

pean unification. This “world govern-ment” and United Nations aspect is par-ticularly striking.

On April 6, 1951, Pope Pius XII madesome interesting statements whileaddressing the Fourth Congress of theWorld Movement for World FederalGovernment,

“Your movement, Gentlemen, has thetask of creating an effective politicalorganization of the world. There is

nothing more in keeping with the tradi-tional doctrines of the Church, or betteradapted to her teachings on the rightfulor unjust war, especially in the present

world situation. An organization of thisnature must, therefore, be setup…There, Gentlemen, is a vast field of

work, study and action. You haveunderstood this and looked it squarelyin the face; you have the courage to give

yourself to this cause. We congratulate you. We would express to you Our

wishes for your entire success…”Pope Pius XII wasn’t the only Vaticanvoice to laud global governance. Speak-ing to the United Nations on October 4,1965, Pope Paul VI reaffirmed the grandinternational design of the UN,

“Your Charter goes further than this, and Our message advances with it. Youexist and operate to unite the Nations,to bind States together. Let Us use thissecond formula: to bring the onestogether with the others…Is there any-one who does not see the necessity of

coming thus progressively to the estab-

lishment of a world author-ity, able to act efficaciouslyon the juridical and politi-cal levels? Once more Wereiterate Our good wish:Advance Always!”

    Pope John XXIII made

similar remarks in hisEncyclical letter, Pacem inTerris, in April 1963. A spe-cial synod which convenedas a result of the SecondVatican Council againoffered support to the Unit-ed Nations in 1971,remarking that it lookedforward to the time in

which the world communi-ty would be able to use an international

police force in world affairs (Justice in

the World, ¶65). Although the Vaticanand the United Nations have been atodds over certain social issues, it’s obvi-

ous that the office of the Holy See haskeen interest in the overall empower-

ment of the UN.As to European regionalism, the roleof Roman Catholicism and the Vaticancannot be overlooked. Each of the threemain “Fathers” of the present EuropeanCommunity — Alcide De Gasperi, Kon-rad Adenauer and Robert Schuman —had strong Catholic ties and defendedthe Church as an institution within thebroader concept of a unified Europe. Infact, Schuman, who was head of theEuropean Parliament, is now a candi-date for Catholic sainthood, and the

beatification of De Gasperi and Ade-

nauer is also being examined. In a biography on these three

“Fathers of Europe,” R.W. Keyserlingk – who was General Manager of theBritish United Press – explained thattheir larger motivation was “the sacri-fice of absolute national sovereignty”

within a “federated” political, economicand military alliance. Steps toward thisEuropean “sacrifice” of sovereignty wasgreatly advanced in 1957 by the signingof the Treaty of Rome, the official dec-laration which established the Euro-

pean Economic Community as a pre-curser to today’s European Union. Not

surprisingly, five of the six signers of theTreaty of Rome had political and reli-gious ties to Roman Catholicism, as didother leading figures during this impor-tant formative era.

to the Vatican on September 23, 2000,Pope John Paul II greeted them byaffirming that “my predecessors and Ihave lent our support to the great proj-ect of rapprochement and cooperationbetween the States and peoples of Europe.”

The Pope also expressed his thoughtson the importance of “fundamentalhuman rights” as detailed by the Coun-cil of Europe, and in particular, the

European Social Charter. This “SocialCharter,” which was formulated by

Jacques Delors, a social Catholic, hadbeen addressed earlier when John Paul

was visiting the Council of Europe in1988. What is particularly interesting isthat on both occasions, the Pope’s 1988

visitation and the pilgrimage of the EUPresidents to the Vatican, the Holy Seeemphasized the special role of “Chris-tianity” – read Roman Catholicism – indeveloping the common spirit upon

     which European solidarity should berealized.

This aspect of Roman social/political posturing cannot be underestimated. As part of setting up Vatican diplomaticchannels within the emerging federatedEurope, Rome established a PermanentMission to the Council of Europe – the

oldest and most established politicalunification entity on the continent. TheVatican also created the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the Euro-

pean Community, which ensured a con-tinued interaction between European

political players and the hierarchy of theRoman Catholic Church. Furthermore, through the power of national agree-ments and special long-term politicalarrangements, various arms of RomanCatholicism, such as the GermanCatholic Church, have been granted

special political and economic privileges which can be found no-where-else.

During the 2000 visit of Presidents tothe Vatican, one item of paramountimportance came up. The Pope, in wel-coming the EU delegates, openly sug-gested that the time was ripe for theEuropean Community to begin draftinga comprehensive European Constitu-tion – a necessary step in solidifying thecontinent’s political integration.

With the arrival of ten new members

to the EU in May 2004, European lead-ers were given the task of fast-trackinga draft European Constitution. Under-standably, the Vatican saw this as a

prime opportunity to assert itself. But toRome’s surprise, no church was askedto participate in the drafting of this vitaldocument. Instead of participating atthe Convention level, Rome had to pri-vately lobby participating Catholic offi-cials, including Valérie Giscard d’Es-taing (President of the European Con-vention, the group in charge of draft-

ing the constitution), Pat Cox (Presi-

dent of the European Parliament), and Joschka Fischer (German Vice-Chancel-lor), along with a host of Ambassadorsand other leading figures. Variousnational Bishops’ Conferences werealso put to work, applying pressure ona country-by-country basis.

On July 19th, 2003, the draft Consti-tution was released in its “secular” form. Now, as Europe nears the 2004 expan-sion deadline, the Vatican is seeking to

place wording within the finalized con-stitution that would reaffirm Europe’s“Christian heritage.” If this type of

wording comes into play, it would grantRoman Catholicism a unique place

within the political framework of a uni-fied Europe. Already the President of the European Commission, RomanoProdi, has openly published in an Italian

Catholic magazine his support for thisconstitutional Vatican tie-in.

This blending of “politics and reli-gion” within the Vatican/EU powerstructure was especially highlightedthis past October in Ankara, the capitalcity of Turkey. According to Ankara tel-evision channel “TRT 2,” unnamedEuropean Commission sources toldTurkey that it would need Vaticanapproval for its long-term EU member-ship bid. Underlining this struggle is thefact that Islam is rapidly growing

throughout Europe, and this faction, possibly combined with Turkey’s pre-dominantly Muslim population, couldchallenge Rome’s unique “religious”

position within the EU.Regardless of one’s thoughts on the

“separation of church and state” – a dis-tinctively American phenomenon – thefact remains that the Vatican’s strengthas an international player cannot bedenied. As one commentator recentlystated, “even the most cynical politician

knows that the Pope, with nearly onebillion followers, wields remarkable power in world affairs.”

The Roman Catholic Church, as aspiritual-governmental entity directlyconnected to the ancient RomanEmpire, is the world’s oldest and mostexperienced political player. In the anal-ogy of the “grand chessboard of global-ization,” the position of the Holy Seecould be likened to the exceptionallyskilled “king” who wields power andauthority over the “pawns, bishops and

    rooks” of global governance. e
