I cannot believe that this Columbian year is coming to an end. We have been focused on Charity and Building ourDomestic Church while strengthening our families. We have worked together to serve our Church and Community. We continto fulfill the vision Father Michael J. McGivney put in place in 1882 to care for those most in need while we embrace our fai th

We now need to finish this Columbian year on a high note. It is time for you to finalize your efforts to achieve StarCouncil. To be acknowledged by Supreme as a Star Council is truly an honor. It means that you have a council that hassuccessfully accomplished goals set by Supreme. Reaching these goals ensures that your council remains and will continuebe relevant.

At our State Convention we were honored to have our Supreme Advocate John Marrella and his wife Amey attend.When our Supreme Advocate and I spoke we both touched on the genocide that is happening to Christians and other religi

minorities in the Middle East. Our Nation and the World community has watched this unfold and, yet, the world community hadone very little to recognize this as genocide. Our Supreme Knight Carl Anderson testified before Congress Tom LantosHuman Rights Commission on April 19. He spoke about the murdering of men, women and children, and of those that werechosen to live are sold into slavery. Our Supreme Knight brought to the attention of the world the genocide of Christian andother religious minorities at the hands of ISIS. Our Secretary of State John Kerry as well as The United Nations has finallydeclared the murdering of Christian and other religious minorities Genocide. I believe this is due to our Supreme Knight CarAndersons efforts. When we unite for a cause it makes our local, state, country and world leaders pause and think about thcause because we have strength in numbers. This is another reason why we need to grow in numbers and stand united. Youshould also know that Knights of Columbus have given over 10 million dollars to create a safe haven for the refugees. Weprovide the essentials for them to live; housing, food, water, medical aid, education and generalrelief. We must continue to support this cause.

During our State Convention C&B (Charitable and Benevolent) books were distributed, thisis our fund raiser. This fund raiser has the potential to meet the needs of your Community, Parish,Diocese, Catholic Schools, our students as well as many other charitable causes. Please supportthis program. A Message from our Senior Associate State Chaplain,Fr. Brian McWeeney...My Brothers:

Summer is approaching, our children are putting their books aside, and each ofus are planning a few days of vacation. It is a time to re-energize. As shepherds of ourfamilies we can utilize this time to bring our loved ones closer. Special trips might be

planned. Remember we are in the midst of the Year of Mercy. Perhaps as a family wemight make a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Saint Patrick or the Basilica of Old SaintPatrick's Cathedral on Mott Street. Both have Holy Doors through which Catholicswalk through and gain an indulgence under usual conditions. In both places there aremany historical moments recorded. Through the collaboration of the Knights ofColumbus and the Diocese of Albany the holy shrine at Aurisville is open to visitorsto see where the brave Jesuits and their companions gave their lives for the faith.

As Knights we are aware that our Columbian Year begins on July 1. We cannotwait to the Fall to think about the programs we will undertake as councils and as

individuals. We must be constant in our Catholic witness. The Eucharist must becentral to our Sunday celebrations no matter where we are. In our leisure we mighttake up reading some books which feature the lives of the saints or of prominentCatholics. Have you read Father McGivney's biography: Parish Priest. The works ofFather James Martin are both enjoyable and enlightening. And let us never forgetMary's Rosary.

Enjoy this time of rest. Let usalways rest in the Lord' s love.

Best of 3 for C&B

Many of us are a familiar with the New York State Annual C&B Program, buthow many of us are familiar with is this years new 2016 C&B campaignslogan?

Again Best of 3 for C&BIn order to maximize our success we asking all councils to consider ourBest of 3 Program.

Simply put, we are asking councils to match their best C&B performanceover the last 3 years. Think about it. This is a very achievable goal. After all,we are not asking you to do anything you havent done before.

The Best of 3 Program sets goals on several levels. In the near future, youwill receive goals not only on the council level, but also on a conferencelevel and district level, too.

Everyone, is an important part of the C&B team.Conference C&B Vice Chairman, District Deputies, and Grand Knights willall receive their unique goal. If these goals are reached, your council, districtand/or conference are eligible to receive additional funds for a charity ofyour choice. More specific details will be provided at a later date.

At this time, however, let us briefly provide you with a general idea of howthis program works. If your conference meets its best of 3 goals, then$1,000 will be awarded to the Conference for them to designate to a charityof their choosing. In addition, all councils and all districts which reachedtheir goals within that conference, could receive additional charitable fundsawarded on a lottery basis.

In the meantime, please do your best to get your C&B Program off to agood start. This good start will help make this years program a success.Lets make C&B more successful so that we may be more charitable!

Youth Programs ReportIt has been a very busy and successful year for the various Youth Programs in New York. A specialthanks to the many Vice-Chairman, District Deputies, Grand Knights, council Program Directors andto every Brother Knight who took part in a single Youth Program, or took part in all of them. At theend of 2015, our Supreme Knight asked each of us to take an active part in Building the DomesticChurch, and by implementing and offering the various programs to the Youth of your Parish, you aredoing just that.

As we wrap up the 2015-2016 Columbian Year, the Free Throw Program had a very successful year.It is probably the single largest Youth Program in NY. The Cadets, our Brother Knights at WestPoint, help ensure that the State Finals run smoothly. Alexander Mlotkowski, representing Council#2122 located in Manhasset, has received an International Free Throw Award in the 11 year-old BoysGroup. Thanks to Rich Sheffer for once again chairing the Free Throw competition, and getting theword out throughout the State.

We announced the 24 Scholarship Winners at the 121st Annual Convention at the Villa Roma.Congratulations to the awardees, and good luck to them, as they continue their Catholic education.Thanks for spreading the word on the scholarship program. Thanks to Tony Zibella and hiscommittee for reviewing the various applications, and naming the awardees, in a very tight time

frame.

Once again the Catholic School and Support programs were a success. The State Council matchedthe almost $52,000 donated by Councils across the State, which resulted to over $103,00o indonations in support of catholic education. Thanks to Tony Zibella, for helping spread the word andchairing this program.

Bill Julian and his committee oversaw both the Essay and Alcohol and Drug Awareness Postercontests. Congratulations to each of the winners. The quality of the essays, and talent of the youngartists was tremendous, and each of the participants excelled at meeting the requirements of eachcontest.

One of our newest programs is the Keep Christ in Christmasposter contest, started just 3 yearsago by Supreme. Peter Browning chaired this committee, and was impressed by the quality of thesubmissions, and by how the Youth depicted the message in so many different and various ways. Weare hoping to see this program take off in the upcoming year, as more Councils appoint Chairmenand bring this program to the Youth in their communities.

The Squires wrapped up a busy year, holding their Convention at the Seminary of the ImmaculateConception in Huntington in mid-May. The State Squire Officers, which to thank all who supportedtheir annual convention journal, or any of the other programs sponsored by the Squires. Electionswere held, and the new State Officers were elected. These young men, our future Knights are apleasure to work with. Thanks to the many Counselors who give of their time, to help guide theSquires, helping to show them how they can have a good time, by helping those in need, and using

our Catholic faith as a foundation for growth.

So while our Youth programs are moving forward, there is definitely room for greater participation.As we prepare to enter a new Columbian year, I ask each Council to set a goal of offering more.Could you offer at least one new Youth program in the new year? There are many to offer, its up toyou to decide which one will work best with your Council. You just need to take the first step. Needhelp, let me know.

Statue of Jesus gets a Face-Lift!!Several years ago the Members of Patchogue Council

725 donated $30,000 to purchase a statue of Jesus for

St. Francis DeSales Church. The statue had been in need ofsome repairs recently due to being exposed to the elements.

Members of the Council gathered at the Church to revamp

the grounds around the statue and to do the repairs.

Our Lady of the Rosary Council N0.4428, Knights of Columbus inDeer Park, held their annual Top Cop Night on May 19th, 2016. Traditionally this night is

set aside to recognize the good work of a Police Oficer from the First Precinct in SuffolkCounty. This years recipient was Police Oficer James Johnson honored for his

self-motivated enforcement which helped keep the residents of Deer Park safer.

Dedication to our Church

The men of Sacred Heart Church in Sidney in conjunction with the Knights of ColumbusSacred Heart Council #4937 built a new Altar. Under the spiritual guidance of their new

Pastor Fr. Ben Ampong, they constructed a custom Altar for the Tabernacle of the HolyEucharist and a Sacrificial Altar for the celebration of the Mass.

Construction of the Altars was completed by more than 2 dozen men of the Parish workingtogether for over the last 3 weeks. Construction was planned and supervised by GeneWalsh. The men came together in the spirit of Fellowship and Devotion and all gained agreat deal in participating in this project.

The production was a great way to encourage active participation in the church and willhopefully be the initial seed in a new dedication of service and community. All participantsnot only enjoyed working with each other but also learned a few things along the way.

The Altars were constructed with multiple layers of Wood and Corian. Donations paid forthe materials and the labor was provided by the men of the Parish who volunteered over acombined 300 hours keeping the project budget neutral in these financially strapped times.The final project gives the look of cut marble at a fraction of the cost.

Arrangements are being made to invite Bishop Edward Scharfenberger to visit the

parishioners of Sacred Heart Church. During his visit he will bless the Sacrificial Altar and

the Altar of the Repose.

Central NY Chapter Bishop's Burse was held onFriday, May 20, 2016. State Deputy Bob Weitzman presentedBishop Cunningham with a donation from the members of the

New York State Knights of Columbus. Some of those in attendancewere Chief of Staff, Ed O'Toole, FSW as the Master of Ceremony.Joseph Lupia, Counsel to the State Deputy, and Chapter President.

The Msgr. Sherman Council Knights of Columbus, of GlendaleQueens, held a St. Baldrick's event on Saturday, June 4th, where members and theirfriends and families donated money to have their heads shaved or not. 100% of allmoney collected went straight to St. Baldricks who will use the money to try and

find a cure for childhood cancer. The Knights collected over $6,000.00 for this greatevent. Pictured with many of the participants is Gerry O'Callaghan, the eventorganizer. He is in the first row in the blue shirt. Sitting next to Gerry

From June 21 to July 4, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops(USCCB) will host its annual Fortnight for Freedom under the themeWitnesses to Freedom. In support of this theme, the USCCB will highlight

14 men and women around the world who bear witness to authentic freedomin Christ.

As faithful Catholic American citizens, we encourage your council to workwith your pastors to be fully engaged in this special celebration. Forsuggestions on simple activities, please visit theUSCCBs Fortnight forFreedom website.Additionally, we encour age you to share the USCCB-

produced 10-minute video on the importance of religious liberty that isavailable on the website. This could be done at a council meeting or as

part of a larger parish or community celebration of the fortnight.

You can also order Knights of Columbus religious freedom signs(13x 20) for use at any rallies or marches for religious freedom sponsored
